Some common causes of insomnia:
1. Too much sugar before bed.
2. Too many things going on your mind
3. Sleeping late can cause your body to adjust, thus, causing your body to fall asleep at a much later time

If you have a difficult time sleeping, there are numerous things you may do. Common things people do:
1. Do a quiet and relaxing activity such as reading or listening to relaxing music (No heavy metal or loud stuff like that.)
2. Drink warm milk.
3. When sleeping, do not think of too many events. As I stated above, too many things on your mind can cause your mind to go hectic, thus, causing you to have a difficult time sleeping.
4. If you have been sleeping at irregular times everyday (1 day: 9:30 Another day: 12am) try to set a constant sleep schedule. Try going to bed by 9:30pm everyday, so your body can properly adjust to it.

Hope this helped out. Happy sleeping!

Lucky me, I fall asleep a minute after hitting the bed.
Try counting to the largest number you can think of.
I did that when I was really little, and it was the night before my birthday.
Ah, the days..

lunesta is for adults.

Honestly, if you can't sleep and it's just 9...well, I wouldn't call it insomnia. Since I was in second or first grade, I've always fallen asleep at at least 11 or later. I could never fall asleep.

Like now...it's about 12:45 and I'm doing homework because I know I wouldn't be able to fall asleep now anyway.

For tips? Just play a scene in your mind. Don't think about sleep. Think about the scene with your eyes shut. Relax.
