I gave Disney a call last night concerning VMK. They said to me that VMK is reopening October 24 of 2008. The game will NOT be a pay to play game. The same game will be up. They are making improvements. You will start from scratch. You can have the same name though.

Well thats what they said... Im not saying this from my own words. Also as i said early they COULD of if they are making improvements on stuff in there so they probably did.

EDIT: I found a reason likely for vmks closure in another thread in here and could be possibly what they are doing:

Wasn't there once a staff member who said that VMK closed because they could not make any more items due to memory? If you take the total of all rooms, textures, clothing items, furniture, posters, NPC's, NPC codes, dialog popup boxes, minigame rules, etc., it can easily add up to 65,536; which is the highest number of items allowed for a 16-bit system, since the next number would roll back to 0, which is already taken by the first item. Given this theory, VMK may right now be switching to 32-bit, which would allow over 4 billion items. Obviously, this is something that would be too embarrassing for Disney to say, that a major virtual world was shut down because of an underestimation in the number of total things that would be made.

why would it take them so long if so? Well first u have to buy it would could take atleast a month to get then u have to install it which could take a week, then u have to install the program itself ( idk how long that takes ) then u have to test it for atleast a month to see if its working properly then finally maybe add items to the last test to see how much it can hold, which addes up to about 3 1/2 months to 5 to run it in the actual game itself.

LOL i dont think they would go that far because they would have to modify 46,404 items plus public rooms, plus guest rooms, plus mini games
