Yes,but anyone could take the name say their disney, make up lies, and make disney even more hated(possibly give them more law suits). It's actually a good idea for them.

Interesting...I am hoping that this is proof that VMK may re-open again! As for someone copying VMK on VMK.com site, I doubt anyone would risk it. If anyone tried to say they were Disney, they'd probably end up in massive legal trouble.

Well, we know that VMK is still up... that's good I guess. WDIG probably could have shut that down if they wanted.

I remember using that site to look up another closed MMO, it was actually a very helpful website. But the record was created as early as 1997?
Holy sugar! I was really young at THAT time! Last edited by TopazR; 09-08-2008 at 01:52 AM.. Reason: personal information |

As much as I'd love to believe you, I just can't. I'm sorry, Kelly.

It only costs something like $20 to register a domain name. The expense comes with the actual hosting of the web page contents.
I am crossing my fingers that it means something's going to reopen. I can not begin to tell you how happy that would make my family. But I also know it's not uncommon for companies to register domain names just to keep them from being used. It's not uncommon to register the .com .org and .net of their names as well so that no one else can use them. Thank you for sharing the info found! I hope it means the glorious return of VMK but I'm not setting myself up for heartbreak at the same time. edit: Using the Internet Archive Wayback machine website is rather cool as you can see what vmk.com was before Disney registered it for themselves. and a few older VMK pages too.

It is standard for a company particularly on Disney's scale to maintain domains of both past, present, and future websites/projects.
The cost of maintaining such domains is nil. For a company of Disney's scale, they are likely paying about $6/year for each domain. A small price to pay to avoid future inappropriate use of thier domains. It is not uncommon for spammers, hackers, phisher's, etc to obtain previously "reputable" domains (and use them for thier nefarious purposes). I myself have 4-5 domains that I maintain and do not use, and im just a regular web geek. Read into it what you wish, but maintaining/renewing a domain, is not likely an indication that the site is 'coming back' etc. OFxZeppers Last edited by Dr. Zeppers; 09-10-2008 at 01:11 AM.. |
