The Lion King Audition

Disney Theatrical Productions is holding The Lion King open casting call for children at the National Black Theatre in Harlem, New York. The highly successful and award-winning Broadway and touring productions of The Lion King will be holding this call in February. We encourage children of all cultural backgrounds to attend.
CHILDREN
We are seeking children ages 9-12, with a maximum height of 58", who can sing, dance and act to play the African lion cubs Simba and Nala. No performance experience necessary.

PREPARE: Be prepared to be taught the last verse of "I Just Can't Wait to Be King." All children must be accompanied by parent/guardian, who must remain at the audition site at all times.

SEEKING: Male and female singers. 20’s – 40’s. All vocal ranges and physical types. Seeking singers with legit Broadway voices for ensemble positions and to understudy principal roles.



TO PREPARE: Prepare an uptempo or ballad that shows off your voice and range. Standard Broadway music is best. Please do not sing material from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Tenors with a high “C” should be prepared to sing up to a “C”. Women should be prepared to show their belt and head (Soprano and alto) voices.



Bring sheet music. Pianist provided.

Bring a picture and resume, stapled together.

All ethnicities are encouraged to attend this call.

Non-equity performers will be seen, time permitting.

We are seeking strong male and female singers who move very well – late teens – mid 40’s. Please prepare a brief pop/R&B/rock song that shows off voice and range unless character singer is notated in breakdown below, in which case, prepare something appropriate for that character. We are looking for future replacements for all roles as well as strong singers for the ensemble who cover principal roles. Bring sheet music, pianist provided. Bring picture and resume stapled together. WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE ACTORS OF ALL CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS TO ATTEND THIS CALL.



SEEKING:



SCAR: Early 30’s – mid 40’s. Mufasa’s brother and Simba’s uncle. Evil and maniacal but still capable of humor and high style. Scar will do anything to be the King of the Pridelands. This role requires an exceptional actor (Classical training is helpful) who is also a character singer.



MUFASA: Mid 30’s – mid 40’s. The King of the African Pridelands. Regal, omnipotent and powerful. Must be in great physical condition and have an excellent, rich baritone voice.



RAFIKI: Late 20’s – early 50’s. A soulful, but comedic, spritied, African female baboon. Sings “The Circle of Life”. Must possess an excellent, rich unique South African style belt voice.



ADULT SIMBA: Late teens – late 20’s. Male actor/singer to play the African lion, Simba. This actor must have *** appeal, charm and an urban sensibility as well as a strong pop/rock singing voice. Should be a high baritone and able to sing to an “A”. Must be in excellent physical condition and dance and/or move very well. Should be 5’8” – 6’2”.



ADULT NALA: Late teens – late 20’s. Female actor/singer to play the African lion, Nala. Must have *** appeal, charm and be very attractive. Should have excellent pop belt to an “E”. Must be 5’5 – 5’10” and in excellent physical shape. Must dance and/or move well.



TIMON: Late 20’s – mid 30’s. Wise cracking, New York urban comic character actor. Stand-up comedy experience is a plus. No taller than 5’8”. Character singer. Must move well.



PUMBAA: Late 20’s – mid 30’s. Timon’s sidekick. Not so bright but loveable warthog. Should also have strong comedic skills. Larger, but not obese, is preferred. Character singer. A gravelly distinctive voice is good.



ZAZU: Early 30’s – mid 40’s. A somewhat befuddled, English parrot with a cynical outlook on life but still has his priorities straight. Actor must possess strong comedic skills. Character singer.



SHENZI (Female), BANZAI (Male) AND ED (Male): Late 20’s – early 40’s. Funny, maniacal hyenas. Street smart and urban. Must have strong rock and roll singing voices and must move well. Ed will also cover Timon and Zazu.

I wouldn't know, I just found this on the internet and know that there are people here on the fan site that are into acting, so I kinda figured they might like this....
