Most people hated the wand , as Epcot was just put on top of it to cover up the previous '2000'. A bit tacky , some people think. |

As some people said, the wand was only supposed to be there for the 2000 celebration. i dont know why they kept it, but i thought it looked really nice. without it, it kinda looks boring.
and ps: why would they build the wand so it would scrape the monorail? i dont think it ever has. |

Nobody seemed confused for the first 18 years of its existence without the wand...
It's called "Spaceship Earth", so making a large metallic globe would reflect that. |

or better yet make it move
uh spaceship earth is completely disney, you dont have to add a logo thats been around for 60 years to make it disney, maybe disney just wants to be original again instead of using a familiar face on everything they make so ppl can tell it is disney, after all how else would things like stitch become original if they added mickey mouse to all his cartoons. you kind of need to leave things alone sometimes and let them gain there popularity. Unfortunately, most people do not fully comprehend or appreciate the beauty or architecture and aesthetics. These same people will say that they like the wand and that SSE without it is plain and ugly.
Sigh, complecency.... I like the wand in it's current state (in a crucible somewhere). |

Epcot was the only park icon with it's name on it (after the 2000 came down and the word "Epcot" went up). I can kind of understand having the 2000 on it for the millenium (although, I really wasn't crazy about it). The year 2000 representing something that we had looked forward to as a great time of change and often in a futuristic vision. Something that Epcot was originally supposed to showcase. But after the millenium, why add "Epcot"? SSE is a highly reconizable icon of Disney parks as are the various castles, the Sorcerer hat and the Tree of Life. They don't need their names on them.
Personally, I'm not happy with the Sorcerer hat either. I mean, why take the Earfull Tower, the icon of MGM for years (and a fixture on Disney property way before MGM was built) and place a gigantic Sorerer hat in the middle of the park blocking the view of the beautiful recreation of Grauman's Chinese Theater. Futhermore, the Sorerer hat serves no actual purpose other then to house a pin shop. But, that's another rant . . . |

Epcot is So cool.
I love the wand like when it glows at night. |

The Eiffel Tower has no logo.
But people can tell what it is. The wand was okay during 2000. But after a while it became an abomination. |

Capn I dont believe spaceship earth had its name on it either, it just had the name of the park. Then again I could just be crazy.

While in WDW over the summer we asked a cast member why they were removing the wand. He said that they had recieved a ton of complaints because the wand did not fit with the EPCOT or Spaceship Earth themes. Anyway - it was only supposed to be there temporarily - just like everything disney, eventually it all has to evolve. - blue
