I only got by it mostly because I traded over some of my lvl 100 legends from pearl..
(sorry, I used an AR. LOL)

I used that for Pearl and then traded them to Pal's diamond and bam. They're now in Platinum. ROTFL

Um then my little brother released Vivi's precious Rayquaza called Emerald and her precious little Darkrai....

platinum question- Do you have to get the national pokedex before going to most of the areas in the upper right of the map?

I don't think so, in fact, I think one way of earning the National Pokedex could actually be battling The Pokemon Champion ( Spoilers ahead ) I mean... I never knew Cynthia had a Milotic, Togekiss, and a Garchomp, and I had to trade for those pokemon

You need to beat the Elite 4 in order to get there.
Then you need to have seen all the pokemon in the Sinnoh dex.
