Disney In Las Vegas?!?!?!?!

I just got back from a trip to see family in las vegas, nevada as we were on our way to see all the lights and stuff our shuttle driver told us that disney had bought an area of property 3 miles away from the mandalay bay and that they were planning to build a hotel/themepark BUT NO CASINO!!!!!!!

Haha I do the same. I hate it though when there's like 5 smokers in a row, and I'm like about to pass out because I hold my breath so long, LOL.

But AWESOME! I stayed at the Belagio last time I went to Vegas, I want to see the Disney hotel when it opens! Thanks for the info!

of course no casinos.... Disney would NEVER have casinos where a bunch of children would be...

groovysqirrel 08-05-2008 10:12 PM

A shuttle driver? I don't believe this rumor just for that!

Pisces 08-05-2008 10:53 PM

Ooh a new themepark? That would be pretty cool, hope it's true :D

I'm sensitive to smoke, I have to hold my breath from 20 feet away

nateyboyisweet 08-06-2008 01:33 AM

A disney theme park in las vegas? Wierd. I Will believe it when I see it.

pirategirl202 08-06-2008 01:40 AM

disney in las vegas!?
yea right.. i dont think disney would build a theme park where the whole place smells like smoke!
i dont believe this

tronboy 08-06-2008 02:11 AM

I was skepticle too i just posted it to see if some ne else heard about it?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

pirategirl202 08-06-2008 03:01 AM

maybe it is true. and disney has not told the public about it.
* shrugs * we will just have to wait and see

Misuzu 08-06-2008 03:53 AM

Yay! Sounds fun! Finally I might be able to go to a disney theme park cause i go to Vegas every year

Blossomflower 08-06-2008 06:00 AM

that's odd, cali's only like 6 hours away... why don't they build it in texas or something, so there's something in the middle..

on the bright side, vegas is way easier for me to get to rather than cali, so yay!

although this seems really unbelievable..

I could understand a hotel resort or something involving of DVC, but there are several things that make me firmly believe a Disney Theme Park in Las Vegas will absolutely not happen:
  1. Disney already has a heavily invested theme park resort in the Western US. The Disneyland Resort is short 6-hr drive or 1-hr flight from Las Vegas. DLR already draws in guests from all over the Western US, Southern California, and East Asia/Pacific.
  2. Summer Temperatures during the peak travel season are near unbearable to have a theme park with outdoor attractions and walkways. Some guests at Disneyland may find summer temperatures in Anaheim to be uncomfortable and those temperatures are usually 10-20 degrees lower than Las Vegas.
  3. Las Vegas tourism is targeted to grown-ups and is not aimed toward a family-friendly environment. Put it simply...Theme Parks are and have been a bust in Las Vegas. Las Vegas attempted that back in the 90s with a couple theme parks and family oriented entertainment but it was a failure compared the more profitable casinos. MGM Grand's theme park has been replaced with condos, the water park is long gone, and since when have we've heard Circus Circus being the talk of the town in recent years.
