I'd understand if the pink tikis were 200, and the others were 50...but I personally don't see a point in them doing this, besides raising the price.

And like I said, no pink tikis? Seems a bit odd...

Well, they took them out to fit the theme of the month. With luck, they'll return back to normal after the theme of the month is over.

As for the "no pink tiki" argument, I'll just point out that there is one more weekend where new stuff can come out. Or it might just be saved as the "rare" item for the month.

They work in patterns, people. Relax.

yeah would they bring back the pink tiki?

Maybe for the price of Bat Magic.

Jolber
05-20-2006, 11:08 AM
that would be too much, i think around 500 credits

Neoteny
05-20-2006, 11:10 AM
That would also be too much. That was my point.

Why should something be more expensive just because it's a different color? Are pink pixels more costly to display than yellow, cyan, and red pixels?

It seems VMK are getting rid of furniturethen bringing them back at higher prices since people will assume them as rare because they are higher priced and used to be not sold. Twisted Marketing Scheme..

Neoteny
05-20-2006, 11:28 AM
It is twisted, yes, because the credits don't actually cost anything! They are a fictional currency! And the furniture also does not cost anything. It's just a bunch of numbers in servers somewhere!

So without any reason for prices to be controlled by supply (theoretically unlimited), the can control the demand for items just by setting the prices higher. It's all completely arbitrary!

05-20-2006, 12:05 PM
Honestly VMK, 200 credits for a little tiki? I think not thank you very much. I have a few red tikis and a cyan one, they were the 50 credit ones, not the 200 credit ones.

Neoteny
05-20-2006, 12:08 PM

There's no difference. Your 50 credit purchases are worth 200 credits each now. Way to invest!

There are some things VMK wants to be rare. Those things include green flips, inferno, and of course, those fine pink tikis.

I have to red ones and to cyan ones and there is no way vmk should charge 200 credit for them they must come with a limited edition tiki suit LOL wouldn't that be nice i would be a yellow yiki!!

You've simplified things a lot, to the point where you're ignoring everything about how VMK is setup.

For starters, these items do "cost" Disney something. Disney does pay the artists to develop them, the programmers to write the code about how they behave, the system administrators to maintain the servers, and the project managers to come up with ideas and how they'll all fit together. Not to mention the hardware to run this, including the disk drives which store a record of each and every item. So if you count all this - each item has real money behind it.

Now, admitedly, selling you another tiki doesn't cost them all that much. So it doesn't explain why the price increase on tikis. And this is where the VMK economics start getting crazy.

Lets look at a hypothetical example. What if every single item (from pins to tiki poles to Gold Turnstiles to Inferno) was for sale for 1 credit. Every square you moved in VMK gave you 1 credit, and every game you played gave you 1 credit. You can see that very quickly you could get anything you wanted - and would probably get bored pretty shortly afterwards.

So Disney has to create some balance in there - this includes creating common items at reasonable costs, various ways to get credits of different values, and rarer items that either cost more or require something more challenging to do. Once you have these - you then develop a full economy. One where you can trade items for what you think they are worth, and this provides some reason for some people to play. One where you play games, and this provides some reason for some people to play.

So, why would they make tikis rare for a few weeks, and then expensive? Because thats exactly what we, the players, asked for. We said that VMK was boring without host-run games and special events, so they created them. We said that it was unfair that there was beta that some people got and some people had to spend a lot to get - so they created a rough equivalent with the tikis for a time. We said we wanted themed months, so they created them. All of this is because we wanted them to do things to keep our interest.

So, why does it matter to keep our interest? This goes back to the "cost". They do need to pay for all these people and items somehow, and they do this by getting more people to play, and thus to take part in other Disney activities. The quests that help drive us to the park (and play into that part of the online economy). The tie-ins to various park, video, and cereal promotions (and bring more people in, to fit into the economy that way). If they can show that Disney is getting something out of the cost, then it will keep going, and they will keep funding the economy. Disney won't get anyting if we're bored, so they need to keep responding to what we want and to keep the economy interesting.

Its all very complex. Sometimes they try things and it fails. But they have to keep trying... otherwise we will get bored and leave.

I have been off due to my computer needing a new mother board. Rats, I should have traded off my tikis while they were rare. I hope my friends got me that last pin to come out.

I have heard in the past people warning that retired stuff could come out again as specials like the dress, tikis, blue furniture and crowns. I did not think I would be without VMK or Toontown access for a week, argh. I am thinking that they will retire soon as the only specials that have not retired was the cheap pirate sand from Halloween and the Everest costume.

Miss you all.:wave2:

They also raised the prices.

And there was a brief period between when they disappeared from Ned's and when they showed up at the Emporium.
