Fans protest end of virtual Disney site in front of Disneyland

About a dozen people upset about the scheduled ending of VirtualMagicKingdom.com protested Saturday morning in front of the Disneyland entrance.
The social gaming site, launched in 2005 to promote the 50th anniversary of Disneyland, lets players choose and style avatars, chat with other players and play games. It is set to shut down at 10 p.m. May 21.
VMK is not just a game; it is a community. Our real life is in this game; said Christopher Douglas, the protest organizer.
Douglas and others stood outside the park entry from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, holding up signs with messages like The Year of a Million Broken Dreams and Disney unplugs over a million kids
Douglas, 35, of Trabuco Canyon said he, his wife and two children (ages 5 and 7) have been using VMK for about two years. They have spent about $1,500 on items such as annual passes to Disneyland, and on promotions to earn in-game credits and items such as hats and pins.
In a statement, Disney officials said: The site performance exceeded expectations, but the time had come to shut it down. We plan to offer free online promotions that will continue to engage our parks and resorts guests in new and entertaining ways on the web.

If I could have been there, I would have. Unfortunately, I'm about 2000 miles away with very little money.
Thanks to those that actually participated in this protest. For those that don't like that they did this, please stop putting others down for doing what they believe is right.

I was hoping there would be at least, say, 25 people there.

I salute those who turned out to protest the closing of VMK. These people have made history. They have stood up for something that I also believe in.
I believe that shutting down VMK will make The Walt Disney Company less magical. There is no way of knowing how many Disney fans have done their part to get our voice out. But when I see stories on the TV, hear radio talk shows, follow many links to petitions, ******* videos, blogs, forums and print news I am proud of those who took the time to do what they can to express their love for this "promotion". This “game” which has become a wonderful community has provided family friendly fun and has brought the Disney magic into homes, around the world, at the click of a mouse.
To those who’s comments do not show appreciation for what these people have done, let me just say that one day I hope you find something that you are passionate about or even something or someone that you value. May you use all your strength and resources to protect it and may you always believe that one person can make a difference in this world.

I think its really nice that even adults take interest in protesting to keep open VMK. They are all really brave. I wish to say thank you to them
