While there isn't anything official on the Press Release site (figures) it is definitely closing, and, as stated before, will become more family oriented.
Personally I think this is a bad move for Disney, as they'll lose young adults to CityWalk, but Walt was all about family fun, so who knows. A lot of people in the Disney fan community are more upset over the closing of the Adventurer's Club, and there are already petitions to keep it open. An interesting rumor came up a while back about Disney's Night Kingdom, a fifth park built to the west of the Magic Kingdom, and would offer yet another species of family fun. You would zipline into a temple, see hippopotami, etc. That rumor was bumped down after hearing that Bob Iger himself was somewhat opposed to the idea. The park was supposed to be a spin-off of the Adventurer's Club. Last edited by UpInTheAir; 07-09-2008 at 06:30 AM.. Reason: removed unallowed site |

I think you mis-understood. They're just taking away Pleasure Island. DisneyQuest is in the West Side area.

Downtown Disney consists of three areas: Marketplace, Pleasure Island, and West Side.
Marketplace includes shops like World of Disney and Pooh Corner, with restaurants like Rainforest Cafe. Pleasure Island, the subject of this thread, contains places like the Adventurer's Club, Mannequins Dance Club, Comedy Warehouse, among others. It includes restaurants like Raglan Road. West Side has DisneyQuest, Virgin Megastore, Cirque de Solei La Nouba, AMC Theaters, and tends to be the higher-end entertainment section, though all except P.I. are free. DisneyQuest and Cirque De Solei have separate (and costly) admissions, and P.I. has a charge for visiting the clubs. West Side has restaurants like Wolfgang Puck's and Bongos Cuban Cafe. An interesting bit of trivia: A railroad car from the railroad that used to run around Fort Wilderness Campground is/was the place where you could get your tickets.

It doesn't have a major impact on me, but too bad for the parents out there.
Personally, I think Disney made the right decision. Disney should be an experience for children to remember when they become adults. I'm glad Disney decided to make the kids' time more memorable.

I loved pleasure island. I went there with a couple of friends once and had a blast! I also went with my dad who acts like he's about 12 and and have a great time. They really monitor the place though. Generally there haven't been very many acidents.

Awww! I wanted to go to 8 Trax as soon as I'm old enough! It's a 70s and 80s-themed dance club, but now I'll never be able to go!
I know WDW and DLR are for people of all ages who love Disney, but some of the grownups might not be too excited at the thought of riding the Mad Hatter's Tea Party (the spinning teacup one) three or four times with their kids. After a long day of kid-friendly attractions, churros, and endless walking, some grown-up relaxation time seems like a good idea. If your feet are tired, they could hit a restaurant or go to the Comedy Warehouse and sit back and have some laughs. Or, if their feet weren't ready to stop hoppin' yet, they could go to one of the dance clubs and get that stupid "It's a Small World" song out of their head once and for all! Or at least until their kid drags them onto that cursed boat for one more go the next day. First VMK and now this! Who knows when the whole park will be next?!

I'm sure there have been plenty of Incidents there. But I think that over all it hasn't escaped into the parks. At least adult pleasure is contained into one area where kids aren't allowed.

[QUOTE=EtnaGreen;2072597]Really? When I went you had to have a legal ID in order to get into the clubs. No one under the age of 21 or w/o an ID can get in.

I read somewhere that the tune or verses or something were arranged in counterpoint. I'm not sure what that means, but I read that that's what makes it get stuck in your head so easily. Or something along those lines....

I have literally 70+ files with "It's a Small World" in my iTunes library, amounting to about 5 or so hours of "It's a Small World".
Among them is a 45 minute recording session in which the performers had to play all of the melodies that you hear. One of them is a reconstruction of the Small World at WDW, some of them are from It's a Small World Holiday at Disneyland, and one of them is the first demo recording made of "It's a Small World", which is a lot different than you would think. (None of them are available for sale, so there isn't any legitimate way to get them.)
