The Room Building Guide

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I've always wanted to make a room building guide, so here it is!

According to the way staff judges, it's by: creativity, themes, humor, and any room individually unique in it's own style, or catchy to the eye (Best Guest Room Guide Only!)

1) Gaining a Start to Your Room: First, in order to have a successful room you must plot out ideas based on holiday themes, events, or something special that you've always desired to build in the past but never could. Don't strain your head searching for ideas, let it come to you. If you push too much to think, the room won't be as successful as you would like to the public. Sometimes if im in a mind block, I search on google for images of the theme, that SHOULD help most people, for those who can't think of a great room design no matter what, just let time be on your side and wait for the perfect thought!

Also, if you have any comments to add be sure to post them!

2) Gathering Supplies: It's always great to have the supplies to support your fantastic idea, yet I guarantee 15% of the time you will not acquire all of the items your room needs at the moment, and will have to seek them. Here are the following ways you can get hold of these items:

I. Simply save for those buyable items, remember, unless your room is a holiday theme you have an unlimited amount of time, so rest at peace and make your life easier by saving bit by bit. Usually, I save 3,000 credits a day from pirates (when I had room ideas.) But that's just me, feel free to dig your money from your favorite games!

II. The other option, is to trade for those pesky rare items you just can't get! They may be pricey, but if it's necessary for your room, feel free to get those items by trade, but just to make sure check the specials and shops to see if you can substitute anything hard to get.

III. Normally, I wouldn't suggest this, but if you're impatient, work hard with effort to find anyone trading massive shopping sprees (the more, the merrier.)

Well that wraps up the supplies, now let's get on the more complicated parts of successful building.

3) Discovering Just the Right Room: Your project is always best to be placed in an appropriate room based on climate, seasons, or tropical rooms, and even etc.

I would suggest these rooms for the following themes:
Christmas/Cold Climate: Everest Room, Christmas Room Possibility=Briar Room
Tropical/Jungle: Safari Room, Tiki Island Room, Typhoon Lagoon Room, Jungle Cruise Tent Room
Underwater: Submarine Room, Pirate Prison Room
Pirate: See if tropical rooms fit, Pirate Prison Room, Skull Rock Room, Pirates Caribbean Room
Halloween/Spooky: Haunted Mansion Room, (Possibly Briar Room)
Desert/Hot Climate: Boot Hill Shooting Gallery
Water Theme: Tropical Rooms, Underwater Rooms, and Blizzard Beach, (Possibly Mark Twain)
Castle Theme: Malificent's Evil Fortress, (Ice Castle: Everest Room)
Sky Theme: Tomorrowland Outer Space Room, (Everest Room=Resembling a Cloud)
Space/Alien: Tomorrowland Outer Space Room, Space Mountain Guest Room
Sports: Football Guest Room, Baseball Guest Room
Party Room: Mad Hatter's Tea Party Room, (Possibly High School Musical Room)
Etc: You're going to have to pick with your wits for those other interesting themed rooms not on the list above! Sorry!

4) Furniture Based on Theme: Example: If you're room is an icy cold room, narnia ice thrones, snow carpets, and ice cube chairs are the first to go in your mind, the same with the other themed rooms! If I went into details it would take me hours haha, sorry!

5) Thinking My Room Type: There are four types of designs that I have labled in my little old head:

I: Rides, which is easy enough explained by it's name.
II: Figure Rooms: Which is more use of creativity, such as a giant dog, flying saucer, you name it!
III: Wild Rooms: The rooms that just have no symmetricality, are so unique and are according to the room's theme (these tend to be my favorite.)
IV: Last but not least, Symmetrical Rooms: The name says it, same on each side mostly. The best symmetrical guest rooms, are Animal Safari Lodge, and Baseball Room, in my opinion.

You can choose from the following if you like, but that's how my classification of building goes.

6) Starting My Room: It's difficult to start a room, even for the most experienced builders. So in order to conquer your fear of idea-less panic, start by planning little details of the room in your head, and picture what the finished outcome you believe will look best. Then you may start building!

7) Conquering Those Difficult Room Corners: Often I come across when building, strange shapes in the room which I just don't know what to do! Try putting in decoration, such as palm trees in those unfilled spaces, (trust me it really helps!) In case you have a track turn block where you cannot move, try adding a teleporter then continuing the track.

8) Finishing the Room/Adding Description and Title: This is in fact the most trickiest part of building, the room description, title, and little details to finish the room. You can add posters that fit the room theme, little palm trees, small touches of ice, etc, I hope this helps, it's difficult to explain adding detail. Then, if you are those catchy writers, try thinking of a movie name to twist upon, like: Fast, and Curious from the viewing, Fast and Furious, this is only an exmple, there are millions to think of! For those who like smooth names, I prefer gentle names, but not over doing it. Here is an exmple: If it's a sky themed room with a castle, I would name it: The City in the Sky. And remember: always capitilize your title or staff will think it's childish! Description is quite easy if your mind flows. Just think of something to add, with your imagination I'm positive you can do it!

9) Furniture Limit: I've piled a list of what furniture to try and not use, due to how much space according to the limit they take up.

Remember, furniture limit has nothing to do with how large the object is virtually, or how much furniture is in a room, but according to the limit how much they take up.

Crates: VERY spacey to the limit despite their small shape!
Track: VERY spacey, but usually necessary!
Carpets: VERY spacey!
Lagoon palm trees, and blizzard rocks: THE BEST TO USE FOR STACKING FURNITURE! Take advantage of them!
All Chairs: Super spacey!

To beat the furniture limit, try substituting those spacey items with other items, such as crates being replaced by palm tree lagoon tops...

10) Attracting Staff: Quoted by mocha "I go into rooms that attract my attention from their titles!" This quote is important, staff is always going into rooms only because of neat, interesting titles! Always be nice in your room, staff can be sneaky and enter your room from another character that appears normal. In case you want to be extra nice, greet everyone that enters the room, so you catch that sneaky staff!

Thanks for reading, I hope this guide helps!

Note: Yes, I have won awards, that proves that my tips worked for myself lol, but I'd like to help those people who have just started vmk and are having issues. Also, these tips can come in handy for game rooms and quest rooms, be sure to use them for the basics!

A great set of tips and suggestions. I'd encourage you to polish it up and add it to the wiki.

I can add that it's also important to get people into your room once it's complete! A good way to do that is to advertise your room here on the Forums, in the Guest Rooms section. Don't spam, though! If your room is good, visitors will also post comments about it, and the more active your thread is (again: don't spam!), the more active your room will be.

Also, when you're inviting people on your friends list, don't just say "come" or "come plz." You have to give them a reason to want to come! Tell them something about your room, and always be polite: "Hello! Care to check out my new submarine room when you get a chance?" Don't be annoying and repeatedly invite the same people; If they didn't respond the first time, they're only going to become less interested the more you bother them about it.

When people do come, don't immediately say, "invite." I usually don't even ask my visitors to invite others to my rooms, although if they compliment my designs, I may say, "Thanks! Tell your friends!" Even then, it's usually when the visitor is leaving. If your room's good enough, people will tell other people about it without you having to ask them to do so.

While people are in your room, be sure to play the good host. Keep the conversation flowing and interesting (or at least entertaining)!

Good luck building your rooms!

This is a great guide. I'll probably use some of the ideas in my room.

And yes, this should be added to the wiki! :)

Great idea and well done. It is obvious you took great time and thought to prepare this for all of us to enjoy.

I agree this needs to be wiki bound. Hope you can work it out and get this on the wiki for all to easily find and use.

Great job.

Thanks :stitch2:

Very nice and descriptive....AND TRUE!

I'm surprised I use one of your tips, because I think they're great, and I think my rooms are bad. >_< I use the themed room tip and to use the same theme furniture.

EXCELLENT TIPS!

1,000 thumbs up!

TY VERY much I've been struggling and doing an extra thing, today when i get on,I'll Find your guide and use it step by step and also - i think i have something optional i can add to the guide to help those who do not have alot of furniture:

10)Play around with your furniture if needed!
Translation:Look at your furniture and play around with it too see what you can do
Here's something you can try:Try placing TWO CNC(Capn Nemo Chairs)Back to back, and make sure they are different colors!
Go ahead!Try all of these optional tips=)

(Friends with alot of award-winning people so,I have experience:))

Using the usual furniture in unusual ways is a great tip!

11) When you are in your room, welcome people as they come in. Sometimes I go into a room and people are talking...it doesn't seem as if they care I am there or not. Most times they don't! That is okay, but if you are trying for Best Room then Welcome Each and Every Player that comes into your room...they may stay longer which gets your name up higher on the Popular list which gets more people in...etc.etc.

Yup, I saw that! Unfortunately, I had to make a few minor changes to make it fit the wiki format a little better. I hope you don't mind too much, Davey.
