This is totally a scam,i looked and the e-mail IS NOT the true VMK E-mail.
IF You ever receive a VMK E-mail asking for any information, and the server they're using is GMAIL,PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER IT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE YOUR ACCOUNT!
How i discovered this? The e-mail was totally different from the TRUE one.Don't DARE to answer this,if you get an e-mail which the sender is ' VMK Player Support (********@gmail.com) '

P.S:Hope this wasn't posted yet,if it was,then may delete,mods.
Thx for the warning... I would not believe any of that... lol maybe you should reply with fake info, jk.. LOL.. idk, but thx!
No i wouldn't really,i'm not truly a bad guy,LOL.
Ah,and if you guys would like to know how i discovered it,it was by those information:
E-mail wrong
Staff name not said
http://www. vmk .com is not exactly how Staff put in.
And,if you think it's a staff using their e-mail out of VMK System,it is not.All staff use the same e-mailing system.
yup... it should have at least the right link to vmk.. LOL
Jezibabe 01-23-2007, 11:47 AM Again, thanks for the warning!
Just a thought, have you told "Contact us" about this? Maybe they might be able to get it shut down or at the very least put a warning on Home Page for people who don't use VMKForums?? :wave2:
People these days are getting very sophisticated with their scamming
Eww,I know..
And also, yeah, the right link! Not the worst link ever...http:/www.<-- Does that even exist?ROFL
Thats what I was talking about.. lol http://www. vmk .com.. whoever it was they spaced it out wrong so the link was only for http://www. which is not a site, so technically they did not even give the right link, LOL...
The right link http://www.vmk.com <-- notice no spaces LOL

VMK staff wouldn't use a Gmail account.
This "scam" is a very lame attempt, probably by a friend of the original poster.
Google might be interested in this.
I am sure their "terms and conditions" prohibit spam and scams.
BestGreenStitch 01-23-2007, 03:41 PM omg i totally would have fallen for that! not even kidding! that is awful, someone would stoop THAT low to try and scam someone...it's ridiculous what people will try to get free stuff...thanks for the heads up! :)
~BGS
Midien 01-23-2007, 04:01 PM VMK like any legitimate site, would never email you to ask for your personal login information. Anytime you recieve any emails like those, do not respond.
mickeymouse2818 01-23-2007, 04:23 PM I agree in saying that you should send this to vmk properly through the contact us page. Its best that they know other types of scams, especially email ones.
GBShorts 01-23-2007, 04:47 PM VMK will NEVER EVER ask for your information, I hope everybody knows that! They ALREADY HAVE your information-you gave it to them when you signed up.
NEVER give out this information to ANYONE unless you want them using your account and you aren't afraid of losing all your stuff.
PinkTinkPixie 01-23-2007, 04:52 PM That's a good point, Shorts ;)
lol, just the link and Gmail would've given it away for me.
~Pink
MinniesDream 01-23-2007, 04:56 PM I've had an E-mail simalar to that; it was sent to me last week. I want to type more, but I am on at school. I'll get a detention if the teacher finds out. -.-

Kinda off-topic:
LOL, if you could risk getting detention for being on the forums during school, I don't think you should be on right now ;) especially if you're supposed to be doing work. lol

WHAA!!I'm no friend of who posted it,and also,i don't even know this, and i am not a traitor to my friends!
Qui-gon 01-23-2007, 07:55 PM Wait, wait, wait. Was it really posted like http://www. vmk .com ? Wow, that gave the whole thing away. That's pretty dumb, I mean, you make up a whole e-mail and mess up the URL. Wow. -.-
This is sort of surprising though, the first e-mail scam that I've heard of. This just proves that VMK is becoming more popular.

If this came to your hotmail account, maybe someone picked you out here.
"Chat" info often gives up too much information.
I always stick to "in-forum" email and messaging.
What happens here, stays here.;)
No real scammer is going to spam tons of email accounts trying to extract VMK stuff.
There's too much money in real scams.
ppockets 01-23-2007, 09:02 PM Yeah, I had a few weird girls IM me when i had my e-mail adress up, saying things that where meant for a boy to hear and posting a website. After about 4 ppl imed me this, i looked at this website. It had a bunch of pictures of girls. I took my name off here and told the next 4 ppl who imed me off.
Ppl use VMKF im/email info for the wrong reasons..

FYI, people will use information to use the wrong things all the time...
when people steal from vmk names, they might sell it on ebay, some people get money for directing people to those addresses... even when its illegal...
one more thing... Disney always uses a Some.Thing@disney.com email address... and never anything else
Zebraa 01-23-2007, 09:22 PM Good find, and thanks for the heads up.
one more thing... Disney always uses a Some.Thing@disney.com email address... and never anything else

VMK ALWAYS (correct me if I'm wrong) USES ******@virtualmagickingdom.com TO DELIVER YOUR MAIL!
lynzer 01-25-2007, 11:50 PM aww, thanks so much. you rock!
Tetsiga 01-27-2007, 05:29 PM remember the part on VMK.com about never giving out your password?
that means, they would never even ask you for your own password. why? because they have all your information saved.
trust me, if ever asked to give out your password or personal information, just don't.
VMK does not email people at random(to my knoledge). and if you ever get anything from hotmail.com,gmail,go,aol,comcast.,knology,bellsout h,etc.. its not real. just remember people, VMK will not contact you, they usually contact you on VMK.
MissKeyKey 01-27-2007, 05:31 PM Yes ive heard of people getting this exact same e-mail before.
It is a scam so don't fall for it...
and if it was a real vmk e-mail im pretty sure VMK_Shorty's name would be at the bottom :D
*Ultrakiki*
ParamoreGal 01-27-2007, 05:38 PM I used to belong to this other website that stated you would get 1,000,000 credits and all the inferno and beta you wanted if you gave your username and password!!! HAHA
Jamarocker 01-27-2007, 05:39 PM Thanks for telling us. It's sad to know that people are trying this hard to scam us, and then use a Gmail account and even get the URL wrong. It's also sad to know how bady people want things.
jedibunny 01-27-2007, 09:41 PM but if they lost your information then how would they send u an email?? @_@
olpmcgvmk 01-27-2007, 10:05 PM I think Guguie deserves a free sig or something
FantasyBlueBoy 01-27-2007, 10:33 PM Even if it said you won a free inferno just get on VMK and meet in Banquet Hall with no scams, Look at the bottom they said:
VMK Player support
ww.vmk.com
When it is supposed to be:
VMK Player Support
VMK_Shorty or another staff
Plain scamming.
Chaelle 01-27-2007, 11:02 PM Wow, good scam! I give it an E+ (E for evil).
I would have fallen for it a few years back.
~Chaelle
Nemofinder 01-27-2007, 11:21 PM My question is where did they get your email?
FreakOuter99 01-27-2007, 11:25 PM Also, if your email has the option select the email as Spam. many email services have this option. With this option email providers are able to single out mass spammers. i know for a fact that both yahoo and verizon have spam folders which is the same as a spam detector. anyways if you have the option and get this email spam folder it! :D
PaperClip 01-27-2007, 11:28 PM I recently got banned for mentioning that in the chat room. I recentyl got one too, and I wanted to make sure that it was something to believe or a scam.
DarthChaosSky 01-29-2007, 03:32 PM I recently got banned for mentioning that in the chat room. I recentyl got one too, and I wanted to make sure that it was something to believe or a scam.
I have also received this message. I have contacted VMK and await a response. However, I advise everyone to not respond to the person. It appears as if certain people in other VMK Forums are the ones who have been sent the e-mail, and not many here. Apparently, the culprit could have originated from other sites, which will remain unmentioned.
I am trying to track this person down, along with other people, and report it to the correct authorities. E.g.: VMK Staff Members, Mods., Admins. etc. Anyone who has been scammed already, I suggest that you immediately try to change your password. If the culprit has already changed your information, report it through the "Contact Us" found in http://www.vmk.com/
Please stay safe, and never give out info. to anyone who claims to be a staff member. Yavn himself said that not even a Staff member will ever ask for information concerning your account. I and some other friends are conducting an investigation of who was sent the e-mail and at wht time. If you know anything about the person, PLEASE step up and talk. If you are the culprit, then take responsibility for your actions. It will come out worse if you do not. :(
Sincerely,
You Know Who
Also, remember that VMK only sends messages through the following e-mail adress: ******@virtualmagickingdom.com
Clearly enough, that e-mail protruded from a gmail account, which VMK would never send one through.
Also, if you do not wish to receive messages such as these, you can block your e-mail adress from the eyes of other people through a "User CP" setting. This way, only VMK has your e-mail adress, and only they can send you messages through "******@virtualmagickingdom.com".
dinotaco 01-29-2007, 08:21 PM As a general rule - never, ever, anytime, anyway put your password to anything in an email. Neither VMK or any other responsible internet site will ask for your password. If an internet site says they have lost your information - I would guess that they are not worth dealing with. ;)
If they cannot keep up with my information, I don't think I should keep up with theirs!
If you do not know about spam - you should learn - one day I got 8 spam mails. My ISP (internet service provider -similar to Yahoo, or Hotmail) has a reporting system, once I send a spam to them they work to get to the original person who started it. If you haved a local ISP - check it out, they may have a reporting system.
I learned this the hard way - from experience.
jsmall 01-29-2007, 08:28 PM How It kind of looks like the way VMK would format but its probably a scam
PirateAhoy 01-29-2007, 08:53 PM All player support e-mails have VMK_Shorty at the end of them, and they are from the right VMK addres. The address can be found in the newsletter every week ;)
DarthChaosSky 01-29-2007, 09:09 PM Just to let everyone know, we believe we have found the person. I and a Moderator have contacted the correct authorities regarding the scam and expect a response. However, I still advise you all to be alert and stay on the lookout. There is no safer way to keep your personal information safe other than by not telling anyone else that info. ;)
Rainabo 01-29-2007, 09:33 PM Thx for the warning... I would not believe any of that... lol maybe you should reply with fake info, jk.. LOL.. idk, but thx!
Well.. even if they really did, it wouldn't be to smart. You never know what other people's Username and password are so they could have given a scammer somebody else's information.
My little sister would have fallen for that. So would my neice, nephew, friend, and my other friend. Wow, a lot of the people I know in real life that play VMK aren't to smart.

I don't think so. I mean, why would THEY care about some little virtual gamer scamming?! Not to say it isn't bad, but it's not a big deal, it's nothing you could go to prison for! It's not like it's going to hurt anything but your VIRTUAL character! But, anyway, it IS spam, and that someone could be kicked off for...
slayer12345678910 01-30-2007, 04:27 AM i dont no if this was aid but maybe it was some one from forums because u have the option t send a message directly to persons email
KEBSD 01-30-2007, 04:54 AM Ugh... I can not believe people these days. They should be happy with what they have, not steal other people's stuff. Notify everyone you know who plays VMK, this is just terrible.

Umh, actually, almost ALL e-mail service providers prohibit mass e-mailing of the same thing, E.g. chain letters, scams, ads, etc. Sending people unwanted mail is not allowed. You can get in trouble for it.

TravisSch 01-30-2007, 08:19 PM VMK has posted an updated message on the front page under Game News and under the Scam Alert section of the Newsletter.
They have obviously been reading the reports coming in (one of the messages was mine :)) about this scam!

They have obviously been reading the reports coming in (one of the messages was mine :)) about this scam!
Here's what VMK said regarding the scam:
"VMK E-MAIL SCAM
1/30/07– If you get an email from anyone claiming to be from VMK Player Support asking for your VMK user information, such as your character name, password, birthday, etc., DO NOT REPLY to the email. This is a scam to get your login info.
VMK will NEVER send unsolicited email asking for your password or user information.
The only time you would get an email from VMK regarding this information is if you are having a login problem and have already sent us an email requesting help with this problem through the 'Contact Us' link on the website.
Any email from VMK will include your original email in the reply. Remember your login and password information should never be shared with anyone."
I guess this case is closed. Thanks to everyone and VMK. Stay safe! :)

First of all,i'm a secure child:
I don't have an e-mail of players of VMK,members of its fansites or whatever.
And also,Many people,of many fansites got it,It's not EXCLUSIVELY my friend.
EDIT:Thanks ALL for the nice comments for me per posting this! And i repeat,i don't even know who sent it,didn't gave information,or whatever.=)

vmkstar99 02-02-2007, 01:57 AM But how'd they find out your email address in the first place?
More importantly, how did they know you even play VMK?
But truthly, I might've fallen for that. Thanks for posting this. Contact VMK with the email address of the person, and...
Leave it to the staff to supply all the punishment :).

VanillaWillow 02-15-2007, 12:22 PM yeah, it already says this on the newsletter you have no reason at all to post
Maribeth 02-15-2007, 12:56 PM I usually respond to emails such as these with either fake information or by yelling at them about how stupid and inconsiderate their behavior is.
The link they would have used would be http://www.virtualmagickingdom.com as I believe staff want the actual title in the address, just as they refer to it as Virtual Magic Kingdom, not VMK, in the title. They also would not have put the spaces.
Actually, they would never have sent the email. If the files were not stored on backup somewhere, then the people running VMK are complete idiots, but they're not, so we know the files ARE stored on backup somewhere.
VMK Staff will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever ask you for any personal information (unless you have actually won a competition such as that iPod competition a while back - and then the email would be from mailman@virtualmagickingdom.com) or account information. Remember that!
Oh yeah, and the scammer probably found random users on here who had their email address displayed. Like if you had your Yahoo screen name shown here, then he emailed you.

First of all, even if they had lost our files, how would they have mssaged us? That would make no sense, since with our files being lost our e-mails would have been lost also, and they would have put it up on the VMK website. Anywho, I received an e-mail a while back about it. I had reported it and a staff member responded saying that it was a scam. I guess we have solved this problem? :)
neoerules 02-18-2007, 04:44 AM wow i cant believe they would do this to vmk ppl ( the scammers i mean ) and i mean why would Vmk staffs be playing on fansites then helping vmk?
oh well very shocked and good thing i read this warning
Innocent_Bunny 02-18-2007, 06:57 AM I usually respond to emails such as these with either fake information or by yelling at them about how stupid and inconsiderate their behavior is.
Fake information? Please do not lead them with fake information - because indeed it is childish but it may be leading them to a person's account just because of the information you sent them.

monkeyfunkychunky 02-20-2007, 11:13 PM Well guys, let's just be thankful that Yavn gave VMK a Contact Us Button. That way, we can ask all the people down at VMK HQ if this is from them or a scammer.
I know we all value all our items, and this thought just comes to me: Why would some random dude want to scam our virtual items as a living?

And to Maribeth and blastoy, i don't think it would be wise to send a scammer false information. You don't want to tempt him/her. The best thing to do is just report the person and leave it at that. Ignore them or block them from sending you messages.
Problem solved, don't you think? ;)

And,if you think it's a staff using their e-mail out of VMK System,it is not.All staff use the same e-mailing system.

Once again, I would think this not to be a good idea. Just ignore the person. Don't ever e-mail them back, since you do not know what they are capable of.

TripleM 03-03-2007, 01:10 PM Thats what I was talking about.. lol http://www. vmk .com.. whoever it was they spaced it out wrong so the link was only for http://www. which is not a site, so technically they did not even give the right link, LOL...

Actully, if you have a "local website" http://www. will take you to that website. but you need to be good at coding! :P

TravisSch 03-04-2007, 02:35 AM There's another problem I notice with that email. If they lost your email address, how can they possibly email you in the first place? Think about that.

callumw987 03-04-2007, 10:16 AM i have not had this yet

Well, it's possible that he saw our e-mail addresses on some VMK website, and that's how he knows.
