Hello!

I had the opprotunity to go to Disneyland today (January 3rd) for the first day of Rockin Both Parks. (Space Mountain got new lighing effects and a soundtrack while California Screamin just got a new soundtrack). The parks were so busy I didn't get to ride either ride. If you have the opprotunity to ride it before April 26th when it goes away, what did you think of the updates? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated! :new_year:

Im very glad u brought this subject up. I came to the park very early this morning to take a ride on this rockin' version of space mountain, and boy did it rock my socks off! First off, the sign to Space mountain now says Rockin Space Mountain to give u a hint on what comes inside. New lighting effects are now very imminent inside. The song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is just snychrinized with every twist, turn and drop. Above all this is a "Must-Ride" attraction for any Disneyland Passholder and any other person who can take the time to get off VMK! lol I didnt ride Screamin b/c of the wait over there!

I rode Rockin' Space Mountain (AKA Rockit Mountian) today and while it was a completely different ride experience I'm glad it's only temporary. Overall the new effects were not spectacular, mainly lots of flashing lights and dancing people projected on the walls. The up ramp that normally "spins" as you launch into space now has different images and of course, the soundtrack is different (also very loud ;)). It did remind me a bit of Rockin' Roller Coaster but not nearly as fast or exciting. As a whole, the ride was actually quite slow and strangely relaxing... The BEST thing about Rockin' Space Mountain was the fact that the whole area was much brighter than usual so the track layout could be easily seen, and for people who normally ride Space Mountain, it was interesting being able to actually see the tracks and structure/framework.

I waited 65 minutes to ride it (Rockin Space Mountain). It was a different experience but I still prefer the "daytime" track and effects.

We rode both California Screamin' and Space Mountain today. The music addition on California Screamin' made the ride even more fun. Highly recommend.

While the music and the intial special effects changes were fun on Space Mountain, we didn't like the light level as much. Yes, you can see the track and the infrastructure, but isn't plunging through the dark with the stars shooting all around half the fun? Still a very fun ride but glad the rides changs are temporary.

Ok, I rode Rockin' Space Mountain today. It just didn't do it for me. I mean, a spaceship makes for a fun theme for a rollercoaster. A nightclub? Not so much. Sure, the music was good, and the ride was thrilling as always, but the visual effects just didn't work for me. The regular Space Mountain ride is better.

the RHCP song is called higher ground originally by Stevie Wonder

if its the song from ssx 3 its the remixed version of higher ground it its not the remixed version is the song from guitar hero 1

I'm just back from Disneyland and CA Adventure, and rode both Space Mountain and California Screaming. The addition of Red Hot Chili Peppers music was a nice change.

There is now lighting effects inside Space Mountain, which now allows you to see the tracks and where you are going. It's still dark inside, but lighted just enough to see the ride layout. Very cool, because you can see other riders in other cars whizzing around.

Ugh, the Red Hot Chili Peppers stink, but their songs are fine as long as you're on the ride.

Red Hot Chili Peppers was NOT the best choice, at least for Screamin', I've tried other songs on it, and... most were better.

I know their cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" is used on one of the rides, but can someone tell me which ride it's used on and what the other song is?

If they were going to include covers done by the Chili Peppers, I still don't understand why a *slightly* edited version of the Ohio Players' "Love Rollercoster" wasn't used. That's a fun song and very fitting.

Rockin' Space Mountain plays "Higher Ground," and Rockin' California Screaming plays "Around the World." Both songs are remixed to fit the timing of the various hills and curves of the ride tracks.

Thanks 4 the for11.

It's interesting to hear that they're remixed to sync up with the rides, because I had heard a review contrary to this. I guess I'll just have to get to Disneyland and check it out myself..

Oh, the Imagineers did an excellent job of synching up the music to the rides. Really, the only thing I don't like about the Rockin' rides is the new visual effects on Space Mountain. It's a bunch of giant silhouettes dancing in outer space. Who wants to see that? Bring back the comets and asteroids!

I personally don't have any problem with the RHCP. I'm not a huge fan, but I definitely like some of their music, and Disney could have done worse. I mean what a difficult task to find a band that is relevant and exciting to the youth but acceptable and somewhat enjoyable for adults. I think they went with a veteran band from Disneyland's home state, who has passed the test of time and been the recipient of some very good reviews lately.

For people upset about the choice, I'm curious to know what band you think would have been better?

Can someone please translate that for me?

Higher Grounds was not remixed, while Around The World was. I have listened to the songs on the ride and regularly a lot, though I avoid the Red Hot Chili Peppers now 0_0

Oh, and Grasp, I can name a few bands that would be better, even though one that I mention isn't very G-Rated, like the Red Hot Chili Peppers:
Fall Out Boy (Non-G-Rated, cuss words in some songs)
Relient K
Switchfoot

Songs from these bands? Sure.
Dance, Dance, and Sugar We're Going Down- Fall Out Boy
Apathetic Way To Be- Relient K
Oh! Gravity.- Switchfoot

If you're wondering, I've tried all these songs on Screamin', and they all work great. My personal favorite is Oh! Gravity. Try it out ;)

oh man. that'd be worse than what they have now. and has anybody been on the grad nite version of rockit mountain? while i like hoobastank as much as the bands that KEBSD mention, (read:i don't like them at all) i found it to be a better fit for space mountain. higher ground is just too slow of a song, whereas hoobastank's let it out was more fast paced and generally seemed to speed up the tempo of the ride as well

I was quite surprised that they used "Around the World" (I think that's the name of the song) but the way they remixed it synchronizes real well with the ride dynamics. I actually like this track better than the original. And it seems to be more popular that even off-season weekdays are seeing wait times exceed 30 min compared the usual 10 min. or less that normally occurs.

It was also quite clever that they used a band that is well identified with California. The time period Rockin' Both Parks is happening is not a huge period for out-of-town tourism (minus Easter and Spring Break) and making the park experience for these attractions different to attract more Southern California residents during an otherwise "slow" period.

For Rockin' Space Mountain, its different and ok, but I'm not dazzled by it. Its a different experience that is decently good, but I think the original version with its soundtrack and the "flying through space" feeling is much much better. Rockin' Space Mountain kind of makes me feel like I'm being bounced around in a pinball machine.

Well, let's just say we have a different taste in music. Given the choice between embarking on a journey through space that was accompanied by Christian-rock popstars or simply skipping the ride until after April, I'd choose the latter. Again, RHCP aren't one of my absolute favorite bands, but I understand why the choice was made, and I think it was a pretty good one. They're an authentic southern California band that has been able to stay relevant and interesting throughout their relatively long career and is edgy enough without being ridiculously offensive to the ears of the older crowd or the younger set.

And who's making the argument that Chili Peppers aren't G-rated? Not that I disagree, given some of their creative sock placements during shows, but why is that even relevant? There aren't any swear words on the songs being used and they didn't install a risque animatronic Flea in the queue, so who cares what they've done outside of the soundtracks supplied to Disney?

My point is, there are a lot of different songs that I can personally think of, or that anyone can personally think of, that would go great with the ride. But the point is not to satisfy yourself, but to try and find a band that is widely respected and appreciated, and I think Peppers have proved they've got the following to excite a good deal of people.

Just got back from DLR and was actually amazed that i liked rocking space mountain as much as i did with the red hot chile pepper music, california screaming was debatable (although i am generally not a huge screaming fan anyway). Not that it matters much, but once again, the music I suggested is for Screamin', not Space. And exactly like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, it doesn't matter what religious music the bands make other then the songs they use on the ride. And, by the way, Switchfoot and Relient K have been around for a long time, almost as long or longer then the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Not that it matters much, but Switchfoot was founded in 1996 and Relient K was founded in 1998. Chili Peppers was founded in 1983, a full 13 years before either of them. By the time those other bands were just starting to get a little play on local Christian rock stations, the Peppers had already released 7 studio albums, won the first of several Grammy awards, been on world-wide tours, sold millions of records, and most importantly, guest-starred on a classic episode of The Simpsons.

It doesn't hurt to do a little fact-checking first.

When I went back in April like I said in an earlier post, I ended up going on the new version of Space Mountain. It was awesome!! I actually liked it better than the original Space Mountain, although a lot of you might not agree... my mom liked it better, too, but my dad didn't like it as much, because it was "too bright", and he likes not being able to see anything around you, which I guess I could sorta agree with, since the whole theme of "Space Mountain" is SPACE.

Too bad it was only until the end of April :[
