Sow Joan is a boar character who comes to the player's village on Sundays to sell turnips. She is also seen sleeping on the train when the player creates a new character or travels between villages.[9]. Joan sells turnips for a certain price per turnip, which can then be sold to Tom Nook for a variable price.[9] This system, called the "Stalk Market", is a parody of the stock market in real life. In the same vein, Sow Joan's name is a pun on the DOW Jones index. In the Japanese language, the words for 'stock' and 'turnip' are both pronounced kabu. In Animal Crossing: Wild World, Joan sometimes sells red turnip seeds which can be planted, cared for, and then sold to Tom Nook for a large quantity of bells.

Some fans have reported a glitch in which Joan doesn't sell red turnips after the player "time-travels".

Oh u mean Lyle? That guy is annoying! He like is always trying to sell insuance for like, 3,ooo bells! Right at the moment, I have $49,997 bells. I have only one more motagage to pay off. I have a little cheat to get 99,999 bells. First, Go to the page where you select a thing to do. then click Ds settings and go to January 1, 2000 and then go on the game then save. Do the same thing exept go to 2099 and then you will get 99,999 bells in your bank account. But first wat you need to do is put 20,000 bells in the bank account at the Town Hall and there ya have it! 99,999 bells!
