View Full Version : Denied admission to WDW?
davidsplanet 12-24-2006, 01:42 PM Has anybody ever heard of people being turned away at the entrance to WDW because the park had reached it's maximum capacity? I'm going to WDW on December 29 and I know that the park is very crowded that time of year. I remember hearing one time about the park reaching it's limit and turning away visitors. Also I was told by a friend yesterday that WDW has now ran out of Holiday quest cards. I'm not sure if this is true or not.
greenhpper 12-24-2006, 01:59 PM Nasaman posted that as of 10 am yesterday WDW still had holiday quest cards. If you are planning on being in park on the 31st you may experience capacity in the parking lots (depending on when oyu get there) but should be able to find a park to attend and then you could take a bus to the parkyou want to go to. I do not believe there should be any capacity issues on the 29th. Have fun!
maxxkid 12-24-2006, 01:59 PM GAK! That would be verrry bad. i am leaving on the 29th, and i REALLY wanted to do some quests. >.< And again, yes the park can reach a maximum capacity... but i went to disneyland when the lines for the popular rides went out of their queues! I think it has to be something like 20,000 people.

I've never been turned away, but I have been in Disneyland a few times when the admission gates were closed due to overcrowding. I just happened to get there early enough to get in before the lockdown.

That must have been dandy fun!
I'm curious, if the park is that packed how tolerable it would be? Being patient with long lines I can handle. But I would imagine getting from point a to point b would be a mess.

Yes Magic Kingdom usually fills up on Christmas day - I don't think any other day they fill up.... I know Epcot on 12/31 is packed but not closed I don't think
There are different stages of closing.
Basically, it first closes to anyone staying off property then to everyone. However, the entire Walt Disney World does not close. So if you're blocked from Magic Kingdom, try Epcot or Studios. If Epcot is closing, try Magic Kingdom.
Take my advice though, if it's starting to close due to capacity, go somewhere else. You will spend your entire day waiting on line.
Enjoy your trip.
Skamanjab 12-25-2006, 11:59 PM HAHA I know this happened when I was there christmas day. WORST TIME TO GO. Don't expect to see whoever is the famous people said to be in the parade. That is filmed weeks before with Family of WDW Staff. Also when I was there the park was filled you couldn't move. We were told by other people that they stopped letting people in. Fun though because we had reservations in Liberty Tree Tavern? i believe it is. GREAT FOOD :)
CrAzyEm 12-26-2006, 12:07 AM i've never been turned away from wdw what is the limit anyways? i have been turned away from six flag new england and the water park in six flags great adventure the limit there was like 7,000? something around there the waterpark limit was 5000 i know that.

I was in magic kingdom about three years ago on the fourth of july when it reached capacity and they were just turning back people staying off property..i think it was 65,000? not sure though.
bluelostgirl 12-26-2006, 04:55 AM I know for a fact that on the 31st gates are closed at 10.. there are other days where the parks are closed early too.. its more common than people think.. arrive by 9:30, 10 the latest to make sure you're allowed in..
Caterpillar AEIOU 12-26-2006, 05:27 AM Park Capacity is determined by the Fire Marshall.
It happens all of the time.
New Years eve is the WORST!!
I say if you want to go during a Holiday week, go early!
I f you are staying at a WDW resort, you are guaranteed admission ( with a ticket) to a WDW park. It may not be the park you want, but you will get into at keast one park.
If they close the parking lot they usually still let the Disney boats and busses in!
If you are not staying on property, and you are still determined to try, park your car at Downtown Disney, take a bus to the TTC and from there, hop a monorail.

no DLR ran out of quest prizes
Caterpillar AEIOU 12-26-2006, 07:02 AM If you are going JUST for the Quest, call ahead to see if they still have them
:snow_cool:
Check back on this site before you go, I am sure that the SECOND that they run out, it will be posted and confirmed here.
:new_year:
VisitingTheMouse 12-26-2006, 07:16 AM I've been denied admission to DLR when park got full one day...I think it was Veteran Day friday this year? You had to have pass scanned early and can be re-admitted anytime that day if you leave but if you go into park for 1st time later in afternoon/evening, they will deny you entry due to park crowds.
Oh..i am going to be at DLR for New Year's Eve....not sure how long I want to stay since I remember crowds from a visit years back.
Didn't think WDW got too crowded since that is such a bigger place with multiple parks to choose from!
Aceblueeyes 12-26-2006, 09:16 AM yes, this is true. Each park has a maximum number of guests it can allow. There are 4 phases of closing.Guests staying a disney resort are the last to be denied entrances. I have seen the parks close several days a year major Holidays. Chirstmas, New Year, Easter, July 4th. yes one or more parks can start the phase closing at any time. I have seen it where 2 parks have closed at the same time Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom.
My advice is if you have your heart set on one park go early and do not leave but stay for the day.
JeannieV 12-26-2006, 09:29 AM So then, the answer to this Thread is yes! The parks can be closed and people are told to try another park.
Also, people can be kicked out due to "bad behavior".
I wish you luck and my best advice to you (Besides all the other great advice in this thread) is do not EXPECT anything at Disney. Have a plan, but be flexible. Not everything will go your way all the time, but don't sweat the small stuff. There is much to do and see.
So, if you can not get into your desired park...oh well. There is so much to see and do even in a simple Disney store at Downtown Disney, you are sure to have fun...with the right attitude. ;)
blondeandproud 12-28-2006, 03:41 AM my grandmother(of all people!) was in DLR back when they originally took away the Electrical Parade and it had to be closed. but it seems like it's happened a lot since. i say, get there early, because they dont actually kick people out, they just dont let them get it. and go for a fast pass right away so at least there will be one line with a minimal wait. but if you get sick of the magic kingdom's lines just go to another park. epcot or animal kingdom is rarely more popular than the others

I was there yesterday, 12/27, and yes they were turning people away from Magic Kingdom. The only people they were letting in were those that were staying on WDW property and Annual Passholders. If you are not staying at one of the WDW hotels, please call ahead and see if the park you are planning to attend has reached capacity. By the way--it is rather crowded now so please have an idea of what you want to do and if you don't have reservations for any kind of restuarant eating, I would call now.

Good luck. This is the busiest week of the year.
aurorarosesb 12-28-2006, 04:09 PM the only park not in some stage of lockdown yesterday due to overcrowding was epcot so you may get into a park but it will not necessarily be the one that you want

DisneyWhiz 12-29-2006, 02:14 AM i was turned back once . it was the first day holiday decor and shows was up.
the holiday quest is currently unavailable only at dlr. but wdw might run out any time
Miss MeowsALot 12-29-2006, 02:17 AM the only park not in some stage of lockdown yesterday due to overcrowding was epcot so you may get into a park but it will not necessarily be the one that you want
I know that for a fact Animal Kingdom was packed yesterday. They closed the parking right after we got there at 12:00pm. It was so packed the ice cream stands had 20 minute waits.
blondeandproud 12-29-2006, 05:18 AM I'm in disneyland now. i dont think it was in lockdown, but the lines were insane. over near potc and haunted mansion was awful-you couldnt walk anywhere withough bumping in to someone
dinomighty 12-30-2006, 12:09 AM I was there Dec 26-29, 2004. They denied entry to MK every day at some point, usually around noon. The CM's said capacity was 75,000. That was the worst week we could have chosen as far as crowds. It was elbow to elbow people. We hardly saw/did anything, the lines were so long. 2 hours just for Dumbo. This time, we went early December and the crowds were much, much better, plus the decorations were all up.
davidsplanet 12-30-2006, 12:28 PM I just came back from WDW and WOW! I've been going to WDW since I was a little kid and this is the busiest i've ever seen it! The lines for major rides were mind blowing. My feet were completely numb by the end of the night. I went in the morning and never left the park. When I left that evening there were so many cars that all the parking lots were full and there were cars even parked on the grass! But the only good news is that WDW still had holiday quest cards. :)
bowlofcereal 12-30-2006, 12:44 PM Thanks Ghost for the update and the game of Pirates last night and BTW Welcome Back
lemonysnicket3 12-30-2006, 05:43 PM well there was a lockdown at some random date when my sister's friend's chorus was preforming. we were there for an hour and my sis kept on saying "MOVE IT PEOPLE!"
mktourist 12-31-2006, 03:07 AM I was at WDW this afternoon. I had no problem with getting in. It was crowded but not as much as I had expected for a Holiday weekend. Of course I was not standing in any of the lines so I can't vouch for wait time. I can verify that VMK still had Holiday, Thrill Seeker, HSM and new Pirate quest cards available. The pins store in Magic Kingdom still do not have any of the VMK POTC Pins sets.

I can secondhandedly confirm this as well. My cousin was there over Christmas and mentioned that all guests trying to purchase park tickets were turned away in all the parks but Animal Kingdom.
I can't imagine planning your Christmas vacation to WDW and being turned away for not having purchased your tickets ahead of time!
Sounds like it's time for them to build a new park in Florida to help disperse the crowds. :)

Or maybe one in Texas. San Antonio has both a Six Flags and a Sea World. Why not a Disneyland?
GBShorts 01-01-2007, 05:27 AM There's a six flags outside chicago. how about there? :D
Thark 01-01-2007, 08:28 AM New Year's Eve update:
Magic Kingdom Parking lot closed at 11:00 A.M. Est.
Epcot Parking lot near closing at 6:00 P.M. Est.
-I do not believe it closed because I was trying to get in at 6:00 P.M. and I did park, the parking lot for EPCOT was rediciouly full. They used the left parking lots which they rarely use.
These are from on hand and inside info.
Cmkrebs 01-01-2007, 03:26 PM a few years ago i was in disneyworld in its peak season (june) because i was dancing in the magic music days and we where in the magic kingdom the day before i preformed and we heard that the park had reached full capitcity and we left shorty after that and when we reached the gates there was people stand there waiting til the cast members said ok 5 people can come in, it was very weird .

And just think of all those people who don't even use the parking lots but take Disney Transportation!
WCPagentGirl 01-01-2007, 06:44 PM Yes.Magic Kingdom I think is the one that gets most crowded.I went there two years back and they shut down Magic Kingdom because of maximum Capacity.
mickeymouse2818 01-02-2007, 03:14 AM I can also confirm the crowds at WDW as I went from Dec 27-30. I believe that on the 28th both the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom had reached capacity. Lines for Soarin, Test Track and Everest were well over three hours wait time. As of right now, I am on the Disney Cruise ship and I can say that the ship is completely filled to capacity as three floors of people gathered around a projection screen for the New Years Eve party, and like everything in Disney there is a line to get to the ice cream counter.

We did the cruise ship thing last New Year's Eve. That was great fun, even though it wasn't a Disney Cruise. :(
And, um, about that signature... You know, normally I like hidden Mickeys, but that one's just scary. I like the avatar, though.

If you buy your tickets in advance (ie through Disneyland/WDW.com, YOU CANNOT BE TURNED AWAY.
Does anyone know the actual capacity to DLR or Magic Kingdom (if it's not 65,000)? Disney's ALWAYS uber crowded an I was just wonderin'.
DLR is about 70K. ;)

billabonggirl 01-03-2007, 08:23 AM wow I thought the parks would hold a lot more people then 70k..
Fairy 01-05-2007, 03:27 AM OMG Last week I Went and there was 100,000 People..Because Familys had to coem etc. And Everywere i Moved I Was Pushed. Not SO FUN.. So I Go to a place were i can be alone. And Quess what? About 400 People are already there!
Neoteny 01-05-2007, 03:31 AM Disneyland was at capacity again today. What happened to the good old days when kids went back to school on January 2?

Only if you were Premium you got in to the Park
Proracer1 01-05-2007, 05:44 AM I've never been turned away then again i get there as soon as the park opens.Another wierd thing is I go every year in May and theres almost nobody there. Also all the lines were short except for Peter Pan (Always a long wait).
spot41414 01-05-2007, 05:46 AM My friends were almost denied to DLR last week.
~Spotty
Kitri 01-05-2007, 05:47 AM When i went to DLR we were the last ppl to go into the park and the ppl behind us had to go back to the Hotel and wait for tomorrow.
fatburger 01-05-2007, 06:11 AM I was at WDW this year for New Year's Eve this year! and I think they were only letting in annual pass holders once they reached a certain compacity, this was my first time there on a day when WDW was so packed, so I am guessing if you did not have an annual pass or purchased ticket ahead of time they could turn you away, seems fair to me.
chowmeinnoodle 01-05-2007, 09:11 PM Disneyland was at capacity again today. What happened to the good old days when kids went back to school on January 2?
I guess I was one of the lucky ppl. I got there early on in the day and was able to get in.
By noon there were still hundreds of ppl standing in the ticketing lines. And the 'traffic' sign was up saying that Disneyland was full. :(
I have never heard that before.
bowlofcereal 01-06-2007, 04:09 PM I was at WDW this year for New Year's Eve this year! and I think they were only letting in annual pass holders once they reached a certain compacity, this was my first time there on a day when WDW was so packed, so I am guessing if you did not have an annual pass or purchased ticket ahead of time they could turn you away, seems fair to me.
They can turn anyone a way if the park is full, including any annual pass holder. Once the park reaches its limit it is full. At least the OP was able to get in and try to enjoy his time at the park.
AlexKeepsItReal 01-07-2007, 08:30 PM People get turned away at WDW on New Years. If you don't get there before noon, you are lucky if you get in. Don't even bother to ride the rides or watch shows, the lines are way to long. Just go to watch the crazy fireworks at midnight. But yeah, if the parks get to crowded, they do close. That happens mostly at the end of the year.
