View Full Version : Some New Haunted Mansion Gossip...

I just heard from a Cast Member friend at WDW today, with some interesting news about the Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion...

Well, current buzz is that the WDW HM is going down for about 4 months (late Jan 07 - April) for a massive refurbishment. The details are still under wraps, but a source just told me that "there will be new effects to rival anything at Disneyland".

I'm still getting information on this. More to follow.

He has been following the possible WDW refurbishment for some time now, and so I do believe this is fairly reliable information.

Could the WDW mansion be getting Constance, Disneyland's newest Grim Grinning Ghost, as well as updates to its sound system it sorely needs? We'll wait and see...

Yes, the holographic Constance bride is a big possibility after her success in Disneyland...

Oh, and if WDW does not have it already, its gonna have a new, blue lighting then. And they remove the pop-up graveyard people's eyes to make it a bit more frightening?

this just makes me want to present my ride idea to disney even more. Anybody wanna spare me cash/tickets to WDW?

I hope this is true. That ride has not changed in for ever. It needs a massive updating. I want it to be more scary. After the update there should be a WDW In-Park Quest about some of the new stuff in the ride. The prize, a Haunted Mansion room. It would be a perfect time to re-release that room. There could also be new items in VMK. But seriously, that ride needs to be updated.

I've heard in many places that they're going to refurbish the "Blacklight Spider Room" into something else.

Disney also thought of another Effect, To have a lady looking at herself in a large mirror and she would get warped into the mirror. But....... I think it'll be too scary for little kids and it'll have to be REALLY fast.

AND i heard from cast members that they are gonna put a gift shop at the end. (suprise suprise!) so who knows!:santa2:

well this will actually be a good idea and time for them to release a vmk track of haunted mansion style track. Besides, your right, it does need to be fixed. I mean, they have technology so that if people took pictures of the ride, they wouldn't get an image on the screen. How you may ask, is using light on smoke, like the pirates of the caribbean ride. Create the ghosts on that, then people can't take photos because one: you need a flash inside the dark corridors of the haunted mansion, two: if you use the flash, it will be brighter than the light shining on the smoke, so it will get rid of the color of the ghosts, and turn it into smoke, spooky huh:hmghost:?

I totally agree on this one! The Mansion is a Disney classic and I would hate for them to make it more "scary" because of the younger people that enjoy the ride right now as it is. Im up for some refurbishment with the sound and lighting, but really I dont feel that it needs any other "refurbishments" done. I have been riding this ride at WDW for lets see going on hmmmmm 30 years and I absolutely hate it when they tear apart the rides I have been riding for so long and replace it with what they deem "better" IE. Imagination. That ride was the best the first time they did it.

I am all for refurbishing, if it is better, but they better not be sticking Eddie Murphy in there, or replace Madame leota with the Jennifer Tilly movie version!

Disney needs to leave something the way they are.

As for Cast Members, I can tell you that they are some of the biggest rumor starters around. It is not like tey are lying, it is more of wishfull thinking.

I heard a group of CM's in front of the great movie ride, saying it was going to become a Harry Potter ride.

Anyway, dont always believe CM's they dont always know what they are talking about, they read rumors on the internet, and pass them off as facts.

Disney doesn't even own the Harry Potter franchise...Nor the Star Wars franchise, nor the Indiana Jones franchise. So it all really depends on whether Bob Iger goes the Eisner route or not.

The thing to remember about Cast members at the parks: they are usually the last to know what's planned for the parks. A good number of them are really self important, and will say things whether they are true or not. There are plenty of instances on this site where ludicrous information was given out by park employees.

And once you think about it, that's why they are the last to know. Disney management doesn't want the real inside information given out so freely.

Lol we start seeing posters saying, "This summer, the mansion's up for one more scare... Eddie Murphy joins the ghouls."
It's like the follow up to Jack Sparrow joining Pirates of the Caribbean. :)

Well, what ever is going on at the mansion, it could possibly lead to the long waited re-release of a Haunted Mansion Quest, or may just lead to haunted mansion items. Who knows, it may even lead to pin series two, they could take 10 pins and release all the items from the old Haunted Mansion Quest, along with a few new items.

So were a whole bunch of other non-Disney movies.

This is Disneyland/World, not the Disney Channel.

I can't see Warner Bros. at a Disney park - maybe Six Flags, but not Disney.

As for Star Wars and Indiana Jones, I thought George Lucas paired up with Disney - his stuff was their stuff. Wasn't he the mind behind ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter?

Wasn't he the mind behind ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter?Yes and no. He was involved at one time, but only briefly, and apparently nothing in the final version reflected his ideas.

The original basis of ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter was the Alien and Aliens films, which were 20th Century Fox films and were not really connected to Lucas at all.

Lucas' connection to ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter was probably supposed to be similar to Spielberg's work on The Amazing Spider-Man at Universal's Islands of Adventure, but it never got that far before Lucas had a problem with Michael Eisner (I should probably use the word "too" here) and walked away.

But by and large, we're splitting hairs here. As I said before, it really depends on whether Iger will rely on outside studio work as bases for attractions. Eisner felt he had to because A) he was making horrible films at Disney and B) his people had a big problem coming up with original ideas, unlike Walt used to. So far as I've seen, Iger's people is also relying on existing films for attraction. Not a great idea, in my opinion.

Now, why Universal would have anything to do with Potter is less clear to me, since they don't have any rides based on movies they don't own. (You can argue about Hulk and Spider-Man, but they opened those rides before the films were made, and they actually own part of Marvel Comics . . . . which raises the question of why they didn't make the Hulk and Spiderman movies.)

HOWEVER, we are pretty far off topic at this point. Back to Haunted mansion please. If anyone wants to continue this particular discussion, I'll need to move these posts to a new thread.

Has this rumour even been confirmed?

Being that Disneyland refurbished theirs, I'm sure some kind of refurb could be on the way for WDW.

I am planning on going to Walt DIsney World in June this year and ive been searching around the Disney website. I clicked a link to ride closings and it said that the Haunted Mansion ride will be closed from June through September of this year. Does anyone have any idea what is going on or if they are adding something?

You may be right and the ride may have broke down when you were on it but....

Remember this is a continuous moving attraction. When a person needing assistance wants to ride the ride the workers must stop the movement and allow that person time to get on and then at the end they have to stop the ride and allow the person to get off.

Many times this is the reason for the stoppage and it has nothing to do with the ride breaking down.

DisneyHottie
04-03-2007, 07:38 PM
the ride doesnt actually break down its that they have to get handicap people on.My sister recently broke her leg badly and they ussuslly stoppped the ride every time because she cant go on the people movers. But sometimes it just is a break down you can never really tell.

It is in need of a major rehab. It will take that ammount of time. The HM at WDW hasn't had a good rehab in what 5 or 8 years? But it will just have a few things done. Like everything lol. But no worrys it will be done and back in action as soon as they can finish it.

http://www.distantcreations.com/pinhallway.jpg

And what is going to blow my mind away..

http://www.distantcreations.com/pinstairs.jpg

When we were told a while back that the old staircase/spiderweb scene was being replaced with a new stairwell scene, they were obviously not kidding. This looks amazing! Here's a list of refurbished/added things, according to quite a few sites:

The queue canopy has been torn down, rumored to be replaced with a purple canopy.
Stretching Room has 120 new speakers to make the ghost host more ghostly.
The moving eye portrait gallery now includes the changing pictures from Disneyland's mansion.
The doombuggies have all gotten new speakers.
A new AC system was installed.
The staircase scene is now surrounded by staircases going in all directions, being gone up and down by ghostly footprints. (This sounds awesome!)
Madame Leota now floats around the room as in the Disneyland version, but with a brighter more realistic projection.
The bride in the attic is an A3 audio-animatronic, much like the Jack Sparrow figures in Pirates, but with projection. Similar, but not identical to the Disneyland version.

The staircase scene is being said to resemble this old picture, but with much more detail and ghostly effects:

Wow! it's great to have disney to spice things up a bit! and, I found something great they're doing in the Streaching Room!!

"There are certain things that are sacred territory, like the Ghost Host," he continued. "But in the past, his voice just plunked around the room. We've gone a lot further now. Now he has the power to float around you and the other Guests." (Sometimes he can get creepily close!)

"Now once we got our friend the Ghost Host floating around the room just like a real ghost in an extremely believable way, we decided to bring the little gargoyles to life and let them have fun as well," said Joe. "We put a few bats in there and let them fly around and a few other things too. So now we have more of an ambiance, a texture."

The Imagineers were so dedicated to getting the sound quality perfect, they actually built a full-scale replica of the Stretch Room in their Glendale, California, studios for meticulous testing. Joe assured us that the results were definitely worth the effort. "It's a very noticeable difference, like night and day."
