More holiday happenings! Including info on the Give-A-Gift and Holiday Quest events!

Home For The Holidays!
Well after a week plus of being on the road, I'm very happy to report the 'Yavn World Tour' is finally over and I'm back at home! It was a full week of Disney Park goodness - last week I was at Walt Disney World and on Saturday and Sunday I was at Disneyland! Very few people get to see both parks in the same week, but it always amazes me how each park is special in its own unique way. My pal Jake will tell you all about the trip and all of the cool stuff we saw (including our Winter Summerland Mini Golf rematch – not to worry I putted my way to another victory…).
Before getting into this week's news, thanks for your patience during the 'Build Your Space Mountain' Ride Competition. We took a bit longer to finish the room judging and awarding the prizes but in the end finally awarded the winners – part of reason results were delayed was because we had so many great rides to check out (it was really difficult to pick the winners), the bigger reason was that most of the team was traveling and we didn't quite get everything sorted out before we took off. And yes, I got your comments about not letting you know what the prizes were up front, sorry. In the future we will let you know what cool stuff you can win when we launch the event. All in all though, I hope everyone had fun – and again, I'm sorry for the delays.
Give and Receive!
You asked for it, so it's back for an encore this year. As promised last week here is the skinny on this year's Give–A–Gift!
Give A Gift!
Do you have a friend in VMK who deserves a special gift? Maybe you're worried you won't be able to find them in the game to give them the gift, or maybe you want to give it secretly. Well, we have a special item set aside for just such an occasion. Just let us know who that special someone is and just like Santa, we'll deliver the goods. Here's how it works:
– Beginning Friday December 15, click the 'Contact Us' link and select the Give-A-Gift option.

– Tell us the name of the VMK friend you want to give a gift to. Be sure you give us their VMK character name and this is important - spell it correctly! Sorry but we can't deliver gifts to invalid names.

– You can give a gift to as many Friends as you like, but YOU MUST USE SEPARATE ENTRIES FOR EACH PERSON.

– 500 credits will be deducted from your VMK credits for each gift you give. If you don't have enough credits, your gift won't be delivered.

– Gifts are delivered anonymously - your friend won't know you gave it to them unless you tell them.

– The final date to Give-A-Gift is Sunday, December 21, 2006 and all gifts will be delivered Tuesday, December 26, 2006.
http://avmk.disney.go.com/avmk_v0300/en_US/media/calendar/YavnSpeaks-2006-12-11Presents.jpg You won't know what this year's gift is until the 26th of December!
Holiday Quest
Just a quick reminder that the Holiday Quest is live on both coasts! Visit either Disneyland or the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World and complete the Quest before January 2nd to get those Holiday cards!
http://avmk.disney.go.com/avmk_v0300/en_US/media/community/Rewards_Cards/R_02_11_F_IBFreezin.jpg The Decorative Holiday Snowman is one of three collectable Holiday cards you can get by completing the Holiday Quest.
Can't make it to the either park before the holidays are over? Then why not play the in-game Santa Clause Quest? The Quest is based on all three Santa Clause movies, just get out those DVD's, watch and you could score a Cooke Tree!

Holiday Goodies Galore!
Looking for more Holiday goodies to deck your virtual halls? Warm up next to the Towntoon Fireplace or satisfy your sweet tooth with the Yellow Candy Cane, both are now on sale in the Emporium - but you knew that already, right?
So who's up for a peek at next week? Check this out:

Celebrate New Year – Come On!
Made any plans on ringing in the New Year? If not, join us here! VMK will be staying open an additional 3 hours so we can ring in the New Year with our friends on the West Coast at Disneyland! Yep, you heard that correct VMK will operate from 7AM PST - 1AM PST on December 31st! We're planning to ring in the New Year with special events and prizes so be sure to stop by. (A little birdie told me about a cool new hat, but that's all I can say for now...)
Aside from all that we're busily putting the finishing touches on the updates that are coming in January - I'm sure you're excited to see them, we've got lots of cool stuff, including A NEW LAND... OK, gotta get back to work, lots of cool stuff to get finished up. Keep checking the Newsletter for more details!

<H2 class=scam>You've got questions,
Yeti has answers

</H2>My family just got back from visiting Walt Disney World in Florida. We stayed at the Grand Floridian - where in the lobby they have a huge life-sized gingerbread house! Is it real? And how do they make such a huge gingerbread house?
- Percius

Dear 'Sweet Tooth' Percius,
I am happy to report that the gingerbread house in the main lobby of the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is indeed real, and real tasty too I might add! How do they make such a massive sugar shack? Well, a team of pastry chefs work for weeks crafting the house. In all, they spend over 400 hours baking the thousands of pounds of ingredients, including 35 pounds of spices, 1,050 pounds of honey, 800 pounds of flour, 600 pounds of sugar, 140 pints of egg whites and 180 pounds of apricot glaze. The house is so big, it even has its own shop inside that sells, gingerbread houses.

Do you have a question for me? Send it to me through the Contact Us section at the bottom of this page. Be sure to have your VMK registration info with you (the email and information you registered with) and select "Dear Yeti" from the drop down menu. Every other week I'll answer a question or two here in the Newsletter.

<H2 class=scam>Trading

</H2>When trading, make sure that you get a fair deal by double checking the trade window. You can see what you are giving and what you are getting. Always make sure what you are trading for is in the trade window. If you think a trade isn't fair, please don't trade. There are plenty of opportunities to find what you need.

<H2 class=scam>Reporting Problems to
VMK Staff

</H2>When you have a problem with something or someone in the game, make sure your report to us includes as many details as possible regarding the situation. Our staff wants to help you, but to do that, we need to understand the situation clearly and what you want to have resolved.

Having as much information as you can provide will help the staff take care of the issue quickly and effectively. Likewise, if we don't have all the information and have to go back and research what happened it will take us MUCH longer to answer you concern and fix the problem.
When you're reporting any problem, include the players name and location, the time and date, and most importantly, clearly explain what happened. If you're telling us about a chat that took place or a ban inquiry, you can repeat the conversation or instance. Just be sure to include who said what (using a specific player name) - and before you get into talking about the actual chat make a note that you're about to relay a conversation that has already taken place.

http://avmk.disney.go.com/avmk_v0300/en_US/media/calendar/newsletter-2006-11-03-jake.gif Hey guys, Jake here, what's up!? I'm just back from visiting Walt Disney World with the VMK team! Here's my report on that awesome trip! Thanks to the guys at VMK for letting me tag along!

Party at the Polynesian
I arrived in Florida after a five hour airplane ride from Los Angeles with the VMK team. After grabbing our bags we headed off to check into our hotel – the Polynesian. What a great hotel! From the second you walk into the lobby you think you're in Hawaii! I've never been to Hawaii but if it's anything like the Polynesian – man, I can't wait to go. I give high marks to any hotel with a cool pool - but this one takes the cake – it has a volcano in it!
The Polynesian is located right on the water and just a short walk to the Monorail – we he hopped on the Monorail and made our first stop - The Magic Kingdom to check out the Boo To You Halloween Parade – probably the coolest thing in it was The Headless Horseman who was the Grand Marshall. Equally as cool was the fireworks show afterward - this was really cool! You could even see the show from our hotel which was a mile away!
http://avmk.disney.go.com/avmk_v0300/en_US/media/calendar/2006-11-06-JakesBlog-MeatOnStick.gif
Ohana's open Bar-b-que pit!
One night we watched it as we at Ohana – this is a family style Hawaiian restaurant - with meats served on a giant stick! (I made the mistake of filling up on all the tasty appetizers before the meats came out but next time I'm holding out just for the meat!) I love meat on a stick, and especially love it when it's all-you-can-eat AND it's brought right to your table! The best way I could describe it would be to say it's like an indoor luau, but we didn't have to sit on the ground or anything… ;-)
More Adventure - Disney World Style!
Anyways, Epcot's Food & **** Festival was also going on at Epcot the week we were there. Each country has booths set up, but you could also try foods from countries that weren't represented in the World Showcase, like Poland, Greece, and Spain! While I didn't have any ****, I did taste some pretty interesting things in the World Showcase area. Besides The Magic Kingdom, Epcot is my favorite park and got a chance to ride Mission Space and Test Track with Yavn – he didn't get on Mission Space with me and after riding it, I know why! Mission Space is an extremely realistic simulation of space travel and it's not for everyone, but it was definitely my kinda ride!
http://avmk.disney.go.com/avmk_v0300/en_US/media/calendar/2006-11-06-JakesBlog-YetiStatue.gif
Make an offering to the Yeti before you get on Expedition Everest! (It can't hurt!)
Later in the week we needed to get into the holiday spirit for some Holiday Questing, so Yavn took the VMK team to Winter Summerland and I was lucky enough to tag along. This is a holiday themed mini golf course just a few minutes down the street form our hotel. It was really "cool" to play golf here! The holes aren't too hard but what makes the course really fun are the wintery obstacles you have to avoid to get the ball in the hole – and the Christmas music playing over the loudspeakers. We all sang along to Rudolph The Rednosed Reindeer and I had such a good time I even beat Yavn by a few strokes!
http://avmk.disney.go.com/avmk_v0300/en_US/media/calendar/2006-11-06-JakesBlog-GlowingMickey.gif
The Halloween party at Magic Kingdom was awesome!
Back in Cali
Speaking of holidays, after we got back to California, I had to get down to Disneyland and check out the newly redecorated Haunted Mansion – in case you haven't heard, Jack Skellington and friends moved in and decks the hall with Nightmare Before Christmas cheer! If you've never seen this ride redone like this, you are missing something pretty spectacular – it's like a whole new ride! The Mansion will be redecorated like this until January – so be sure to check it out before it's gone!
Well, I gotta run, they'll be lots more to talk about with all the holiday happenings in the parks so be sure to keep reading my column for the inside info!
– Jake out!

What President declared December 5th as Walt Disney Recognition Day?

Know the answer?
Send your answer using Contact Us at the bottom of this or the main VMK webpage. Be sure to have your VMK registration info with you and select Push's Trash Trivia from the drop down menu.
Out of all the correct answers, three players will be randomly drawn as the winners and sent a cool prize. But hurry! Only entries submitted by the close of game on Friday will be accepted.
Here's the answer to last weeks Trash Trivia question:
Q: The Osborne of Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights presented by SYLVANIA is a special holiday event held at Disney-MGM Studios featuring millions of dancing lights synchronized to beautiful holiday music. On which famous US city "street" does this spectacle take place?
A: New York Street.
http://avmk.disney.go.com/avmk_v0300/en_US/media/calendar/PushTrivia-2006-12-11-OsborneSpectacle.jpg Did you know: Almost 80% of the lights in Osborne of Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights are from the original Osborne collection. Jennings Osborne started the tradition when his daughter asked to have the family home in Little Rock, Arkansas covered in lights for Christmas, way back in 1986.
Every year the light show continued to grow with the family even purchasing the home next door to expand their every growing light show and by 1994 what started as a 1,000 light display had grown to more than 3 million! Local officials and traffic jams brought the show to end in Little Rock, but just a year later in 1995, Walt Disney World invited the Osborne Family to bring their holiday magic to Disney-MGM studios and share it with the rest of the world.

Congratulations to the 3 lucky (and randomly picked) players that sent in the correct answer for last week's question!

What makes a Guest Room award-worthy?

http://avmk.disney.go.com/avmk_v0300/en_US/media/calendar/VMK-newsletterBestGameRoom.jpg Guest or Game Rooms that stand out show originality in concept and design. It could be a use of conventional furniture in unconventional ways, the use of a theme or color, or humor. Game rooms that get the nod offer a new game idea or a new twist on an old favorite. In all rooms we look for room owners who welcome everyone with a smile and show a willingness to answer questions about their room.

Tips, Tricks, Hints, and How To's

Get Creative In Your Rooms With the ride competition quickly approaching, remember, VMK Staff loves to see creative uses of ride pieces when judging rooms.
Did you know you can combine the different ride tracks? You can connect them together in your rooms to make it look like players are going through different environments. Try hiding the transition pieces behind furniture or trees to create the illusion that the ride is going into a different area. What's better than leaving the cold tundra of Everest then sliding down a waterpark slide in sunny, warm VMK?
Try experimenting with drops. All of your pieces don't have to line up perfectly height-wise. You can link uphill pieces to take you up high, then have a sudden drop down to a lower level piece. This looks neat when you alternate the ups and downs to give the riders a bouncing effect.

Wow, one of my predictions I had in my head was wrong. My guess was that the sleigh chair was from Give-a-Gift, not buyable next week. But hey, where's the yellow dreidel chair/red candy cane/green dreidel chair? Or they might pull something new out of their sleeve.

News on a new land? Awesome! Sounds like that poll last 2 weeks actually meant something!

I'm sure you're excited to see them, we've got lots of cool stuff, including A NEW LAND... Dun dun!

I'm glad that the Give-A-Gift is back, that was a lot of fun last year. And last year on New Year's Eve was fun even though they didn't have anything specially planned if I remember correctly. But this year will be more fun I bet. Maybe a "Stayed-up-all-night-on-New-Year's" pin? XD

It's funny how we know all this stuff. But then it's also kinda sad because it makes me thing that they can hardly come out with anything new without us knowing beforehand.

Heh, funny. Sad. Gears of War commercial.

I wish they would rework jungle cruise so you actually got something for playing it. Why would i spend 15 minutes on that game for 20 credits when i can spend 15 on fireworks for 1500?

My whole family plays so we'll all give a gift to each other lol

I'm really glad that Give-A-Gift is back. It was such a great success last year. I'm glad Yavn is talking to us, acknowledging our complaints, and showing us what we want to see.

He is letting us know that they made a mistake and to plan better for huge events like that.

He knows enough to give hints about exciting new things coming up, like that new land. Just enough time to get us hyped up and complaining when they release it in March instead of January.

He also let us know that awesome sleigh is coming with the new week next week.

About the new land, I almost think that they had it in planning and designing stage before that recent poll about which land they had used.

Here's my evidence.

A) Think about past experiences. How long have we waited before while they put the "finishing touches" on new lands? I don't think they could have chosen the land from that poll a few weeks ago and already putting the finishing touches on this new land.
B) I was looking around on the Sulake and Habbo Hotel website earlier. (Habbo Hotel is run by Sulake. So is VMK.) One of the HH FAQ's was "Can I get my own custom-made item?" and the reply was "No. It takes our designers a long time to create items just right." From this I gather it would take far longer than "a long time" to make a new land complete with shops, themed items, rooms, games, and the likes.

About the new hat, I highly doubt that it has anything to do with a bird. Somehow VMK hasn't proven that they use a lot of hints like that. Me and my friends use the term "a little birdie" all the time. It's just what we say when we don't want to say who told us that "oh my gosh, she really DOES go out with him!"

Besides, would VMK give us another bird hat? I doubt it. I hope it's something more like the dream ears available at the parks (however unlikely since that would/should have been released at eBay [versus Treasure Detector]) or perhaps a party hat (New Years hello?).

Just my views on the newsletter!

-Maribeth

PS: Why are there still only two winners for the Push's Trash Trivia? Did anyone submit an answer that was correct and not get chosen to win a prize?

PS: Why are there still only two winners for the Push's Trash Trivia? Did anyone submit an answer that was correct and not get chosen to win a prize?

Very nice facts Maribeth! :)

NEW LAND! *Choke* How dare he tease us like that!

Although, it COULD be that Pirate Hat with the green bird on it...

Ooo, I would love to see Silver/YOMD Mickey Ears!

Give A Gift!
– Beginning Friday December 15, click the 'Contact Us' link and select the Give-A-Gift option.
[/I]Do you have a question for me? Send it to me through the Contact Us section at the bottom of this page.

Now, here's the thing--And let's hope third time's the charm and I get an answer THIS time. (And it didn't work for the ride registration either.)

When I click Contact Us, on that lil' teeny bold-black word-link at the bottom of the home page, I don't see an "option". I don't see "Ask Yavn".
I get the same site-help pop-up that everyone else gets, and the only "option" I've ever had to click was whether I was male or female.

...Oh, you've seen this thing they're talking about, have you? My, my.
Well, let's pretend for a second that I'm new here--Could you SHOW me this mysterious souped-up Contact Us form that everyone's talking about? Yes, you can post pictures here.

(And what it boils down to is, if you're on my Friends list and I still don't know where this is...you might not get anything. It's up to you.) :xmastongue:

Well, yeah. Like the winner of the what ride tracks do you want? poll was waterslides, secondly was Space Mountain, next we *may* probably be seeing Matterhorn tracks! That was the third winner.

I think Yavn gave us a hint of what the hat is. A Little BIRDIE told me. PIRATE HAT WITH BIRD ON IT?! Just a guess but hey, it seems logical to me :P

Although, it COULD be that Pirate Hat with the green bird on itOkay, please stop spreading rumors that's it's a bird hat. Who said it's a bird hat?! Just because a bird told Yavn a new hat is coming doesn't mean it's a bird hat. You guys are just looking for something. Something that will tell you what kind of hat it is.

My vote for the new land is EPCOT. Yavn had talked about spending a lot of time there recently with the team in the newsletters. A new years hat makes sense.

Awesome. I love the give a gift idea. Too bad i didn't get any last year. I had no friends but my cousin and he didn't know about that. Neither did i. Hopefully this year i get at least 1 of them :D! I will be so happy i know 15 people on my friend's list are getting something ;] So if your on my friend's list and i'm good friends with you expect something!

You can always have a second character of yours give your main character a gift if you want to ensure you get one.

And yes, I got your comments about not letting you know what the prizes were up front, sorry. In the future we will let you know what cool stuff you can win when we launch the event.

I don't think they should.. I know they have before, but this time the suprise was nice.. Not to mention the ride a thon things are supposed to be fun, and there are so many people who don't want to *waste their credits* just to a build a ride.. I can only imagine how excited those 4 or so people who won the red space suit were.. Heck, I was excited just to get the pin lol..

This sounds highly plausible.

(Regarding divulging the prizes before the competition) I don't think they should.. I know they have before, but this time the suprise was nice..

I agree wholeheartedly! I like surpises, they give me something to look forward to. Oh, well - can't please everyone :)

My vote for the new land is EPCOT. Yavn had talked about spending a lot of time there recently with the team in the newsletters. A new years hat makes sense.

Between this and Toontown (which would involve a lot of specific Disney characters that VMK has some iffy legal rights about invoking images thereof), Epcot seems the more likely of the two poll-getters--If only for the fact that:

A) The park doesn't reference any movies, and is an entirely "Imagineer-built" park. <See above, as VMK is only an online outgrowth of the Parks division, and doesn't have as much legal access to anything that doesn't involve or wasn't specifically built for the parks--Except for licensed promotion, eg. Herbie DVD stuff>,

and

B) There's no room on the map, so any new park would have to be "outside" Magic Kingdom (in the same way that the Treasure Room is "off" the Adventureland map), which would involve some cute VMK version of the MK->Epcot Monorail to get there.

(Oh, and in case I haven't mentioned it already, WHERE THE HECK IS THIS CONTACT US FORM YAVN TALKS ABOUT??...
Am I looking at the wrong one, 'cause the one at the bottom of the Home Page ain't it!)

Yes, I was just about to make a post about this but glad someone else caught this also. I will be in Walt Disney World during that timeframe, but back on the December 22nd so I am hoping that your modification to December 24th is correct. Not that visiting an actual park is a bad thing ;)
