For Items we should have like a H for Host Game
you know we have the
X=Out of Circulation
D=On Sale
Q=Quest

but there is to many quests that go on to just say It could but in park, in game and any staff quest I won the green candy cane in the Host game but It was not a quest

Currently we use the "Q" price designation to indicate that the item isn't for sale - but that you can get it by some special means. Although originally this meant getting it from a quest, nowadays we know that there are many special ways you can get items (in-park quests, in-game quests from the Q button, in-game quests from a room, special codes from outside games, host games, and probably more every time we blink), and sometimes you can get an item from several of these! Rather than try to come up with a new code for all of these (especially since VMK keeps coming up with new ways to get items), we're still using the "Q" symbol.

Any thoughts for a new symbol we can use?

Thanks for your feedback!

The current system is just pulled over from my "All Items" thread that I made here in the forums.
D refers to Disney Credits (like a dollar sign)
X = retired
S = Specials (this is really so that you know that you have to go to the shop to buy it.)
Q = was originally for InPark quests as that was the only other way to obtain an item (no host games at the time, no eBay, etc.)
K = then the Kellogg's promo came and so I added a K. As more and more and more ways to get items came to be I ditched the K and just rolled anything that was not in the shops as "Q"

But I agree with Priz, if you know of another symbol that can disignate all other ways to get the item then please suggest as we are always looking for ways to improve.

The one thing that helps with the "Q" though is that in the "location" and "notes" columns we tell you how to get the item.

uhh H for Host?

H would be good except that we want one symbol only to designate all other ways to obtain the item so H wouldn't be any better than Q, in my opinion.

hmm... how about b for beta?

Beta items are already labled. See here for an example:

Why must there be only one symbol to designate all other ways to obtain an item? Why not:

Q for Q Button Quest (e.g., Cookie Tree, Disney Cats Pin)
P for In-Park Quest (e.g. Blue Toy Soldier, Ace of Spades Carpet)
H for Host Prize (e.g. Green Candy Cane, DLR Grand Californian Pin)
G for Outside Game Prize (e.g., Buzz Cup Pin, Galleon Mast)
C for Code (e.g., Herbie Poster, Cursed Storm Magic Pin)

...and so on?

Because it is merely a note that it is obtained not in the game. Each item has a column for "Location" and "Notes" that explain it all better.

Following the logic of multiple codes: why not have a separate code for each shop as well?
I - it's a small world Imports
S - Shrunken Ned's Shop
E - Emporium
IS - Inner-Space
GH - Golden Horseshoe Mercantile

And wait, what if they are on special in that shop?

Is - it's a small world Imports specials
Ss - Shrunken Ned's Shop specials
Es - Emporium specials
ISs - Inner-Space specials
GHs - Golden Horseshoe Mercantile specials

Add that to the ideas suggested:
Q for Q Button Quest (e.g., Cookie Tree, Disney Cats Pin)
P for In-Park Quest (e.g. Blue Toy Soldier, Ace of Spades Carpet)
H for Host Prize (e.g. Green Candy Cane, DLR Grand Californian Pin)
G for Outside Game Prize (e.g., Buzz Cup Pin, Galleon Mast)
C for Code (e.g., Herbie Poster, Cursed Storm Magic Pin)

We now have 15 codes.

I think that it makes things more complicated when the info is already in the "notes" and "location" sections of each item.

While that seems a good idea on the surface, it becomes somewhat difficult (and less useful) in practice. You had a code for "code", but both outside games and outside quests produce codes. Do we need to break it down by where the code came from (quests, games, contests)? How far down would we need to break it down (DL vs WDW quests)?

The real question is "what does this gain us"? Does it help anyone significantly to know by the one-letter code that you'd get it by an in-park quest, vs knowing that it is "not for sale, but available" and reading the notes to find out how it is available?

We don't mind making changes if there is some good reason to do it. But lets think about what the reason is and how it would help people who use this information.

Ok, well, how about "A" to designate something that's currently available? "Q" is just confusing, because it looks like it would mean "Quest."
