View Full Version : If you were a Disneyland cast member? RocketMountain 12-04-2006, 07:46 AM If you were a Disneyland cast member where would you like to work in Disneyland? I would like to be a conductor on the Disneyland Railroad. Pinkdust 12-04-2006, 07:49 AM I've always wanted to walk around dressed up as Alice or Cinderella, taking pictures with a bunch of little kids. :) Cooking or waitressing at the Blue Bayou sounds fun, too. Then you can hang out in Pirates all day long. :D PirateMario 12-04-2006, 08:00 AM A Ride Operator at Pirates! Now that would be awesome! I would talk like a Pirate boarding and un-boarding. Oh or being an imageneer! that way, if Pirates breaks down because of something, i'll be there! :D And Ideas for new Updates too! NeonKnight 12-04-2006, 08:07 AM Well now I would like to be a VMK host, but if it were in the park I would like to do something in the Fantasmic show and be able to end up dancing on the boat. :) SuperBillyHill 12-04-2006, 08:09 AM I would totally want to be a imagineer :) Jacques 12-04-2006, 08:26 AM If I were a cast member again? ;-) I spent many years in Tomorrowland Attractions before moving over to the Indiana Jones Adventure and the Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes. I could not pick any better rides to work. I love the Indy movies, and have dressed as the good Dr. Jones for many Halloweens. And I love being outdoors, on the water, so the Canoes was a perfect fit. A fun place to work. :-) Caterpillar AEIOU 12-04-2006, 08:42 AM If you work in Attractions at DLR, you dont get to pick what ride you work at. You do get (sort of) a choice of what area to work in, if there is an opening. Then you get trained in whatever ride they need people at, then you work there, until you are needed somewhere else. Eventually you will get trained in EVERY ride in the area. ( whether you want to or not LOL) Like the Hollywood Area includes all of Fliks Fun Fair, Aladdin Show, Muppets 3D, Monsters INC, Tower of Terror, and the Animation Bldg. If you want to do the Fantasmic Show, you can Audition to be a Character, and they are part of that dept. You can get a lot more info at www. disney careers.com Or in Florida you can call 1-407 824 2222, ask the operater for the Disney JOB LINE. :xmas35: Jacques 12-04-2006, 08:57 AM You are correct. All I was able to request was attractions. This was prior to DCA being designed (I miss my parking lot), and at a time when all young males went to either Jungle Cruise, or Submarine Voyage (where I started). They allowed you to create a "wish list", that they would attempt to grant, based upon necessity and seniority. Time and patience play a big role. Caterpillar AEIOU 12-04-2006, 09:04 AM And the fun part. CROWD CONTROL!!!! If you work Attractions , you WILL spend most of your time, not actually in your area. You will be doing the crowd control for fireworks and parades, and fantasmic. You know those people with the pink and yellow flashlights that everyone screams at? Those are actually Attractions Cast Members. I am not trying to talk anyone out of getting a job at DLR, just pick your job carefully. Jacques 12-04-2006, 09:06 AM In all my years there, I only had to work 1 Fantasmic shift, and 1/2 of a Grad Night. Guess I was one of the lucky ones. ;-) Caterpillar AEIOU 12-04-2006, 09:09 AM I actually VOLUNTEERED for Grad Night! I had So much fun. We did the blast off, in between the 2 parks! Sadly, I am not in Attractions anymore. I work backstage now, cant say what I do here though.:xmas35: acefalloutgirl 12-04-2006, 09:46 AM I would like to work anywhere in disneyland! Maybe at Splash Mountain,Space Mountain,or The Matterhorn :) StitchMad 12-04-2006, 09:54 AM I work backstage now, cant say what I do here though.:xmas35: Ooooh, do you set off Wishes. Do you hand out free nights in the castle. Do you test all the VMK codes? ;) Oh, the possibilities are endlesss ;). I'd actually like to work on the Disney Cruise Line. I know it says DLR, but there is nowhere there apart from JC or VMK Central really :) Besides... the DCL rocks!! :) BlueStarburst 12-04-2006, 10:56 AM If I had a choice it would be the Indiana Jones Adventure, but I would have to be sure I got enough sunlight sometime :) haha TravisSch 12-04-2006, 03:29 PM I looked at the DCL job website and I think I remember it saying you'll work 70-80 hour work weeks. That doesn't give you much time for sleep or relaxing on the ship. GreenGirlJess 12-04-2006, 04:55 PM I think being a Jungle cruise skipper [I think] would be fun. Well, I don't know if they have that at Disneyland or not. And, at WDW.. I think it is The Great Movie ride, correct me if I'm wrong, where there is a 'guide' and somewhere in the ride they get off and another person comes on as a bad guy, and such? Or being one of the people [not in the full suits, such as Mickey's] like Cinderella or Belle would be fun. ParamoreGal 12-05-2006, 03:27 AM I would LOVE to work as a jungle cruise driver! Call me crazy! WafflePrincess 12-05-2006, 03:29 AM Well, I've never been to DLR But I go to WDW all the time!! I would want to work at either Pirates attraction! Arg :D manunderwater 12-05-2006, 03:31 AM I want to be in the Dream Squad, and when that is over, I would love to be a Disney Imagineer. disnyfreek 12-05-2006, 04:08 AM Several things i wouldn't mind doing, pretty much in order from most to last (WDW, never been to DLR unfortunately): Imagineering: MY LIFETIME GOAL Tower of Terror Bellhop: I'd love to get into a full character and scare guests! Haunted Mansion: sneaking behind guests in a dark room with no windows and no doors with an eyliner-laden face=priceless Jungle Cruise skipper: lol i've already got my own jokes for that one Pirates: I love talking like a pirate! lol Great Movie ride tour guide: Acting out the gangster/cowboy scene would be so fun! SillyKid 12-05-2006, 04:12 AM i would like to be a character (preferably in the fall, winter, or spring when it isn't like 1oo degrees outside). that has got to be the best job ever! my cousin was a castmember for ayear and worked in the fanasyland tink shop among other places....she said u need to pick a place that doesn't have a song that will get on your nerves after a while lol....:snow_cool: WDWLinny 12-05-2006, 04:24 AM i would want to be tinkerbell or work at pirates because of their outfits : D <33Linny :jack: gone_batty 12-05-2006, 04:31 AM Fun thread! I would love to work as a Haunted Mansion Maid, or the person who gives the drawing lessons in the Animation Bldg (do they do that at DLR or is it only MGM?) or, ultimate dream job, a costume designer! WorkoutDude 12-05-2006, 04:35 AM I want to work in Rainforest Cafe, 50's Prime Time, or Christmas Store in Downtown Disney NOTE: ALL ARE IN WDW Schmoofy 12-05-2006, 04:35 AM Well.. For an awesome time, I would say a Haunted Mansion person, one who works the queue into the Stretching Rooms. For work, I would say audio department for Frontierland/Critter Country. For amusement, I would say a Skipper on the Jungle Cruise GreenGirlJess 12-05-2006, 04:36 AM All Characters are required to do it all. you dont just get to be a Face Character, if you are need to be "fur" then you do it. Well then, you can't say no then. But, I'd rather be a face character. Especially in Florida at WDW. .-. WDWgirl 12-05-2006, 04:16 PM A Ride Operator at Pirates! Now that would be awesome! I would talk like a Pirate boarding and un-boarding. Oh or being an imageneer! that way, if Pirates breaks down because of something, i'll be there! :D And Ideas for new Updates too! same for me what he said . lol but only at WDW!!!! lol or maybe i can be Captain Hook id know not sure yet. lol Merry Christmas!:xmastree: :snow_cool: Eviie 12-05-2006, 04:38 PM I would completly love without a doubt working in Pirate's of the Caribbean. A simple job is 'How many in ye` party?' that's simple. But anways i never been to DLR but yes if i were to choose that'd be it. In any park they have that [: I love the outfits. Neoteny 12-05-2006, 06:28 PM Definitely a Jungle Cruise skipper. I already know the script! TikiRoom 12-06-2006, 02:02 AM I would not want to be a CM for Space Mountain. You have to rush everyone out of there because if the ride is stopped for too long, it shuts down. Crowd Contol sound fun. Just pick up a light thing, wave it around "This way please". :D I would like to would on any other ride though. :) mkymsehi 01-07-2007, 05:33 AM I would love to be a Engineer on the Retlaw Railroads. Any chance I get, I take a tender ride up in front with the Engineer and the Oiler/Fireman up front. They're very nice to meet, and great explaining how the train works to kids! Old Firedude 01-08-2007, 04:54 AM One thing, that's working for Disneyland Resort Fire Department. While it's not as glamorous as being a Captain on the Jungle Cruise, or running the rides, I get access to any part of the park, I can watch the fireworks from some great vantage points and I DON'T have to work crowd control. matterhornmaniac 01-09-2007, 01:16 AM i'd love to work in club 33- which i do. Chaelle 01-09-2007, 02:37 AM I'd like to be a 'host' in the Haunted Mansion. Kitri 01-09-2007, 07:42 AM I would want to be a Jungle Crusie Skipper!! I love love to be able to be so close to "Water's bak side", and be able to crack all of those corny jokes and here all the sounds of the "jungle" all day long. Did you know, if any part of your body touches the water of the jungle cruise you have to be rushed over to DLR health care and get a tetness shot. lol Plus, if your a jungle cruise skipper, you get to use a fake gun to scare off "Natives". lol daykota 01-09-2007, 07:56 AM My first goal is to become one of the famous Haunted Mansion workers. Oh I practice more than anyone. I even listen to the audio and have the CD and know much about the workings and secrets of the actual ride itself. Then my ultimate goal is to be a Disney Imagineer and bring back original ideas rather than rides based on the Pixar movies. If you're bringing them back, they're not original! autoalice 01-09-2007, 08:16 AM I would want to work in the costuming department. Making and maintaining all those amazing costumes. Coming up with ideas for costumes. Yeah..that would make me very happy! dogsdogs 01-09-2007, 08:26 AM I want to be Ariel! I mean... work at Tokyo Disney Seas. But then i would have to learn Japanise.. oh well! But in DLR i'd want to work at a hotel probably, or drive those neat trams. autoalice 01-09-2007, 08:31 AM Other thing I would want to be is Alice in Wonderland. I look quite a bit like her and would love to do it. SurfedUpDane 01-18-2007, 08:59 PM RocketMountain sure knows how to create a great thread! If I were a Disneyland cast member I would choose to be the guy that re-stocks toilet paper in the men's room. Why you ask? Well at the other posts around the park, you know what you will be doing. If you work at the HM, you will be ushering people into the portrait room with a creepy look on your face. If you work on the canoes, you will get really sweaty. If you work at Star Tours, you have the coolest costume in the park. But...if you re-stock toilet paper in the men's rooms, you never know what to expect when you walk in there! That's not the way it works. Even custodial CM's have a job rotation. No CM says in the same postion all day. You learn all of the positions in the ride/attraction/restraunt etc, and then you get into a rotation. That way, no one gets stuck running a cash register all day, or one person does get the "good job" all day. cptnruthless 01-18-2007, 10:26 PM All Characters are required to do it all. you dont just get to be a Face Character, if you are need to be "fur" then you do it. Sorry, this is false. It does depend on height requirements. For example, there's no way you could be both Minnie and The Queen of Hearts (which requires something in the 6 foot range) Typically, Characters arent just one character, they're usually in a "class" of characters. Face Characters are the exception, they're ONLY face Characters. -Captain Jacques 01-19-2007, 02:36 AM If you work on the canoes, you will get really sweaty. If you work at Star Tours, you have the coolest costume in the park. Having actually worked both of those attractions, I would choose the Canoe outfit over Star Tours. Much more comfortable. And sure, you get really sweaty. But it's the best attractions job in the park, in my opinion. Caterpillar AEIOU 01-19-2007, 06:10 AM Sorry, this is false. It does depend on height requirements. Each Person in the Character Dept, has a Height Range of Characters that they are allowed to perform. If you are a girl that is 5"7, you can be Pluto, Buzz Lightyear, Eeyore,( and more) and if you are approved as such you can be Mary Poppins or Princess Aurora. No one can do a Character that they are not in the height range for it. Every single CM in the Character dept is REQUIRED to be a fur Character. Some of the old timers can request to do only a face, but there is No guarantee, and it is decided by senority. Mouse height Characters are under 5'1. There is a slight exeception. At DLR, you can audition to be a Dancer or Gymnast only, but you are not considered a Character, you wont be a "Disney Princess" you can be in the Block Party Bash, or other dance role in a parade. im.a.princess 01-19-2007, 06:43 AM I'm surprised no one has said they'd like to run the VMK booth. if this meant unlimited quest cards i might be up for that:) although they probably cant do that iLoveTheRain 01-19-2007, 08:36 AM If you are a CM, in the Entertainment Costuming DEPT, you also dress the Dolls inside of Small World! TheCoasterNut 01-23-2007, 09:43 PM A jungle cruise skipper mainly because i know all the jokes and it would be pretty easy. ( and there would be no possible way to crash the boat because is stink at driving) I beg to differ, I have seen my share of crashed boats on the jungle cruise, mostly its newer skips who aren't watching where they are going. Oh, and back on topic, if I worked at the DLR (again) I would definitely work on the WFJC. That attraction offers so much to the skippers who operate it, they are in full control of the experience. Unlike other attractions they dont simply push a button and send you off. They enjoy your company for what can quickly become the longest seven minutes of their lives. We once had a voyage that lasted just over two-hours. I'm glad I wasn't driving. Sorry, I'm rambling, but if anyone is interested in applying for attractions at the DLR here is the division of lands and their attractions: The West Side Adv/Frontier: The Jungle Cruise/Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room/ Tarzan's Treehouse The Indiana Jones Adventure/Tarzan's Treehouse Big Thunder Mountain RR Main Street Vehicles (not horse drawn) Opera House Steam TrainsNOCC Pirates of the Caribbean Haunted Mansion Splash Mountain Canoes Big Boats (Mark Twain, Columbia, Rafts to Tom Sawyer's Island) Pooh The East Side Fantasyland Fantasyland Classics (All dark rides, King Aurthur's Carousel, Dumbo, Mad Tea Party) Casey Jr. Storybookland Canal Boats Matterhorn Toontown (Roger Rabbit's Car-Toon Spin, Gadget's Go Coaster) It's A Small WorldTomorrowland Astro Orbiter/Star Tours Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters Autopia Space Mountain Monorail Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage (not open yet)You can learn any attraction in each land eventually but if you want to go to a different land, you have to fill out a transfer request form. My advice is to put the land you want to work for on your application where it asks what position you are applying for. You will find out what attraction and what land you are in at the end of your first day or orientation. If you end up in a different land than you were hoping for, stay behind and ask the scheduling manager who will be there if you could possibly be transfered to a different land/attraction. Good luck to any future applicants, and have fun! -Oh, and if I forgot or mixed up the ride pairs on my list just let me know. Raderin 01-23-2007, 11:14 PM I would like too act in one of their preformances or be an imagineer. ~RadErin PinkTinkPixie 01-24-2007, 06:46 PM I'd definately want to work somewhere in New Orleans Square. ^_^ I just got an idea!
