Anyhow, my sister Malatariel also plays the harp. She's been playing for about 3 years, and I think she's really good at it! :D

SpinMarty 12-03-2006, 04:25 AM Wow, what a loaded question lol.
First, let me dispell the myth that if you play an instrument (sing, etc.) you cannot play sports. Many great atheletes also used to play instruments (sing, etc.)
I play the Horn (erroneously still referred to as the "French" horn) ad have been playing it for XX years (lots lol). I play in several symphonies, bands and ensembles. The Brass Quintet that I play in just released our first CD and we are working on our second. I
Prior to the horn I played the flute for 4 years, the Oboe and English Horn for 6 years and the Tenor Saxophone for 3. I can play: recorders, piccolo, flute, all clarinets (you clarinet players out there know what I am talking about), all saxophones, oboe, English horn (which is neither English nor a horn, go figure), bassoon, trumpets, trombones, horn (like I mentioned above), trombones, baritone/euphonium, tuba, all percussion (concert, set, etc.), violin ,viola, cello, bass (electric and upright), piano/keyboard, steel drums, hand bells, as well as sing. (I think I got them all)
I have a difficult time with organ as I don't want to learn to control four appendages at once, bagpipes I find difficult, and the guitar is difficult as I chopped the tip of my middle left finger off which makes it difficult. Oh, and harp players still amaze me :)
I am what one might call an expert on music so should you have a question, feel free to ask :)
OK, have I tooted my own horn long enough (ROFL!!!)

DarthMelissa 12-03-2006, 06:53 AM Wow SpinMarty, we play a lot of the same instruments. Harp players amaze me too. That's the ultimate learning experience for me.
I was forced of the gate with the clarinet. Played it and placed 1st chair since 2nd grade. Learned the rest of the clarinet family in middle and high school.
During that time I also started playing piano (as a bet!) and I still love to play it. I won several state solo & ensemble competitions playing piano. Taught many students to play as well, so I did my part in the music legacy!
I played flute in high school as well. Just did it as a favor for the teacher at first, but wound up playing 1st chair for the symphonic band.
But my true love: drumline. Drumline kicked everything else to the curb. I marched bass drum and snare. I also did pit (marimba, bells, etc.), which I enjoyed so much!
My dad taught me bass guitar my senior year for a song for jazz band, so I count that on my list of instruments played.
Learning the organ, my mom just bought me one, and it is a lot tougher then it seems. My hands and feet can't seem to work as needed! LOL.
Let's see...what else. Oh yeah, I've done handbells for over 10 years. If you can join a group that has other really good players it can be awesome. But if the people you are playing with aren't that great, it's no so much fun. Also played around with the oboe for awhile too. On top of all that, I sing. *whew*
Overall, I've been playing instruments since I was only 6-7. So way way more then half of my life. :)
technogirl 12-03-2006, 07:05 AM Wowerz Spin!!! At my school, I'm already one of those insane people who play more than 2 instruments (I play 4 piano, violin, bass, tenor sax). I'm guessing you have that musical talent that I don't have ;).
DeeDee 12-03-2006, 07:19 AM I only play the piano. I kinda want to start playing the organ though. My piano teacher can teach both LoL He actually majored in playing the organ in college @_@

i used to play recorder for a year but then stopped..
so i dont play 1 and dont want to anymore
Maribeth 12-03-2006, 03:02 PM I play meh trumpet and that's it. I moved from a place that didn't even have a middle school band, but I was only in elementary school anyways. My point is they were not big on music and band.
Then I moved to here in 5th grade. The only musical-ness they encourage in elemntary school was the recorder in 4th grade, bell choir in 4th-5th grade, and vocal choir in 4th-5th grade. I missed the tryouts for bell choir and I didn't even know how to read music. I tried out and made the vocal choir.
In middle school, I signed up for band to play the trumpet. Partially because my family already owned a new trumpet, but mostly because I wanted to play a little bit of the melody and not always the harmony. I didn't want the flute, although they do get the melody most of the time. I am very intelligent, but my mind doesn't work as fast as some people's. It takes longer for me to process things, and so I can't play as fast on the flute. So I played the trumpet.
So now I've been playing trumpet for two years. I am first chair, which is understandable because one other girl and myself are the only two people in the entire trumpet section who can actually play recognizable and correct notes. And I play in the symphonic band, which is like a special band for the better players. I get to go to the Spring Festival with the eighth graders, even though I'm only in seventh.
That's my brief musical history :P
WDWLinny 12-03-2006, 11:48 PM i play guitar and piano : D
<33Linny :jack:
SoccerRyan 12-04-2006, 11:58 AM I don't play an instrument. Well, I guess I know a song or two on the piano, but that really doesn't count. I was going to play the cornet, but then changed my mind.
Thenishall 12-04-2006, 12:19 PM I play the piano, but it wasn't listed, bleh. No respect for Bach and Beethoven, huh? ;)

xXMiZ-B-BeArXx 12-04-2006, 09:11 PM Right now I'm playing the trumpet... I'm quitting after our concert tho @_@ People that are in my band and play it too are really annoying and our band teacher is... weird... Really weird.... Hehe... I'm getting a guitar soon tho... nintendog1221 12-04-2006, 09:41 PM hmm..i wonder why band teachers are always weird -_-
keola123456 12-05-2006, 07:01 AM I play the trombone (the slidy one if you dont know), the piano, and the ukulele. For some of you who dont know what an ukulele is, it is like a guitar, but has four strings and you can find a lot in Hawai'i. We have so much styles and types. It is awesome.
Chaelle 12-05-2006, 07:55 AM I used to play the lap harp, it is actually very easy to play, if you keep practicing.

abbycatkid 12-09-2006, 05:07 PM Two words when learning how to/taking lessons on/playing an instrument:
DON'T QUIT!!!
When I'm feeling sad or scared, I sit down at my piano and play a fun piece and it makes me feel a LOT better.
Trust me, if you give up taking lessons, you'll regret it later. Almost everyone I know who has quit playing an instrument regrets quitting later. :)
daizyduke 12-17-2006, 03:37 AM I play the violin. It sounds very pretty to me. Actually, I play a lot of instruments.
