Schmoofy 11-10-2006, 02:07 AM Hey all.
I'm trying to figure out a way to convert my songs on iTunes, (.wma files) into .mp3 files. Does anyone know how to do this?
soccerrunner 11-10-2006, 02:10 AM I have yet to find a way to do this. If they are songs you bought from the iTunes stores, I don't think it is possible due to the protection put on them.
Otherwise, I don't know.

I can understand that, but I've been trying to turn a song I uploaded from a CD I own, into a .mp3 file, and it's only saving as .wma, not letting me change file extensions. It's really bugging me
MichelleA 11-10-2006, 02:19 AM I had the similar problem. But, I forgot what I did.
Did you try importing the CD to Itunes?
Thenishall 11-10-2006, 02:20 AM I remember I got some songs off of a CD on my iPod without a problem a while ago. Now I do not use my iPod anymore, I can't help you, sorry buddy.

It's already in iTunes, the problem is when I locate it on my harddrive, it's not .mp3 format, which I want it to be.

ForeverGoofy 11-10-2006, 02:36 AM If you imported the CD through iTunes, all the songs will be in .AAC format, not .MP3
There are a few programs out there on the internet that let you convert a CD to .MP3 format but once they are in .AAC or .WMA you're pretty much stuck. However, I have a program called Internet Radio Recorder (which may or may not be available anymore commercially) that lets you record the sound coming through your speakers and saves it in .MP3 format. The only trouble is, you basically have to be doing nothing else because the program will pick up all background noise (any typical warning sounds on Windows) while you're recording.
Alienboy 11-10-2006, 02:37 AM If you bought songs form iTunes, you can not convert them. If u rip songs from a CD and put it on iTunes than you can convert it to anything.
realdiznoid 11-10-2006, 02:39 AM if the song is already in itunes, but not mp3, then right click on the song name and a menu should come up. When it does then look for something like convert to mp3. Then it should start converting. That is what i do with mine, with the most updated version of itunes.
GeauxTigersGo 11-10-2006, 03:04 AM There was a program sometime back that would do it but it is no longer updated. My only solution has been to burn them to a CD from iTunes and then rip them back using either iTunes or MusicMatch Jukebox. Crummy way to use a CD - at least they're cheap now.
PaperClip 11-10-2006, 04:09 AM Ok, I have an answer for you. Are these songs you bought or songs from a CD?
If they are from a CD, open iTunes-->CTRL+, Then go to copying from CDs or something like that. Then change the file type from .wma or .aac to .mp3. iTunes will then start to convert all files that aren't protected to .mp3.
If they are downloaded; burn them to a CD-RW and delete them from your hard drive. Now re-copy it as .mp3.
I don't really know that much about iTunes, I don't use it much. I use Wal-Mart for my downloads, 5 cents cheaper.
