I can't log in anymore : (

Here is the error I get once I put my log in info in the blanks.

"the connection was refused when attempting to contact switch.stdmt.com."

Any input? noone else seems to be having problems, so I have a feeling it's something on my end. I restarted the computer already.

I know The Wolf has been having this same problem. I contacted a VMK cast member and let them know. They said they would look into it.

hubby told me how to fix it, after trying several other things, this one worked.

we went to somewhere on my hard drive, I thnk this
c:windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
opened that file in notepad
found the switch.admdt.com (or something close to that) and deleted it. Then saved and reboot.

It worked.
He said this place admdt (sp) disney uses was somehow placed in my bad sites file.. many spammers also use that or whatever.

but it's gone and I can log on again, LOL

I had the same problem. Just wanting to pass on a little of my computer knowledge about that file you had to search through. Sorry that this is a little bit long, but it will explain why things are happening that way.

The hosts file is a file that tells your computer what "IP address" to go to, in order to obtain things, such as images, from a certain place.

[Note: The websites I use are intended to be fake addresses. If they do in fact exist, I had no idea.....I just made them up. I'm not aware as to how to disable the URL commands, sorry.]

I'm going to use an example, and for the purposes of the example, I'm going to use a made up website, www.website.com. In this example, the website had an image located at www.webimage.com. For the example, let's say the IP address for www.webimage.com is 11.22.33.44.

The hosts file has lines that look like this:
11.22.33.44 www.webimage.com

If there is no line for the location in question, the computer will contact your ISP's DNS servers to get the IP address. If the location is in the hosts file, the computer will already know what IP to get the item from.

If the hosts file line for the site looks like this:
127.0.0.1 www.webimage.com

This means that the computer is trying to find said image on your own computer. And since it won't you get the wonderful "Page can not be displayed" error in place of the image or that little white box with the red "x" in it. The same goes for webpages in general. If the webpage address is in the hosts file, you'll get the "Page can not be displayed" error.

That's all there is to hosts files. :-)

And one more thing. In most cases, when you remove a line from the hosts file, you don't necessarily have to reboot. I made a batch file to temporarily move the hosts file to a folder on my desktop (therby hiding the hosts file), and I loaded VMK perfectly. [Then after putting the file back using another batch file, things went back the way they were.]

It is odd that the web address utiliized by VMK would be in the hosts file though.

LeanaSpin tell your husband I owe him a drink.

Never thought to look in the hosts file, trusted VMK wouldn't be dumb enough to do that. D'oh

Anyway its nice to get back into the world and I owe you all a big thank you.

Don't thank me, Leana husband is the saviour of the day, I just turned it into a step by step.

Once again Thanks to Leana's husband for solving this glitch that I think is going to pop up quite frequently across members.

You don't necessarily have to restart your computer. I removed the line, saved the Hosts file, and was able to log into VMK without having to restart.
