View Full Version : Disney to profit more from VMK?

Well, with the release of the pins attached to virtual prize cards, I can see an interesting development evolving.

It seems that Disney's marketing department wants to cash in on VMK's success. I can see why as it would bring them tremendous revenue! With that said, that means prizes of virtual items obtained at the parks that were once free, may not be free anymore. We will now have to buy them. I am sure that quests with free virtual prizes will still exist but that only benefits Disney in that those quests get you to the parks.

Now, in addition to quests, we can buy virtual VMK items too! But, we also get a pretty pin with that virtual prize. So, if I want 10 virtual pirate items, does that mean that I have to buy 5 pirate boxes at $14 each? If you do the math, that means I would have to spend nearly $70 for thise 10 items...Plus, the items are random...Ouch! Hmm..better start saving up for that, then...Plus, where am I going to put all those lovely pins? lol

Pretty soon I can see Disney selling packages of cards (like baseball cards) with a random virtual prize card in them.

I still have not decided if this is a good thing for us, the VMK player, yet. I just do not have the capital for a trip and then a bunch of pins...

I do have to applaud the Disney marketing strategy. VMK has turned into a very powerful marketing tool/game/online world. It has rekindled my love for Disney and made me book a trip to DLR...and now I may just have to book a trip to WDW also for those pirate pins/virtual prizes!

Thoughts?

p.s. Does this mean that having a ton of VMK items in VMK means that we are really rich in real life (so as to afford buying all the virtual cards) and not that we are just good traders in VMK?

$15-$20 per pin? It is $14.00 for 2 randomly selected pins. :11:

Oh, i did not realize that, sorry. Still, if I want 10 flaming windows and the prizes are all random in each pirate box, then that means I would probably have to purchase about 10 times? as many to get my 10 windows (just a guess)! That means I would have to pay about $700 just for a chance at those fire windows! Ouch!

Sorry if my math is off...

In addition to that, you don't even know which cards you're getting! You could be spening $70 for a prize you didn't even want! I'm not applauding Disney in this at all. And if we will have to pay to do quests, you can bet that they will have 1 less quest player, possinbly even 1 less VMK player. Now, while it's true that Disney is getting in on VMK, this game/tool was meant to advertise, yes, BUT that shouldn't mean that should charge to get VIRTUAL items.

Well, I still love VMK and I still love Disney. I can't blame them for cashing in on a great marketing tool that they created. I have decided it is cool with me if they want to sell VMK prizes/real pins. VMK is a FREE game after all...Why not support VMK even more by buying some real life pins (that look amazing by the way)? Plus, you get a real life pin you get to hold and show off to all your other VMK buddies in real life!

Woot woot for real pins and virtual prizes!

inferno!

Kudos to Yavn and the VMK marketing team! If you buy those pins and support VMK, just imagine what other great enhancements will be made to VMK in the future?!

Whatever happened to VMK being the "Free Online Multiplayer Game!"? :(

$70!?!?

Where am I going to get that?! Lol

I'll just buy like 2 packs or something. This is a good idea to get more money though

Off topic - 1,000th post :D

This is a great marketing tool for Disney (VMK will be getting a huge push onto the pin community in which the majority could care less for VMK). Just so you know, this isn't the first time Disney has done something like this. They have done "random pins" many times. In fact, this past summer if you bought a pirate lanyard package it came with a random pirate pin. Disney is doing the same thing with the VMK pins, except there are random cards with the purchase. Nobody is forcing anybody to buy the pins. Just like with the Stitch promotion, if you prefer not to spend your real money for pins/virtual items, just trade for the stuff. :)

Of course VMK was made to advertise Disney. So are most games made by major companies. I don't think the buying of the cards is bad, but it will highly affect trading in-game and will make problems with online selling/buying worse. There will be some really common ones and some really rare ones.

You don't have to buy them. The pins are optional along with everything else. You don't have to go to the parks to buy them. You can just get them through trading.

I think that they are very cool and will give VMK some extra capital to enhance itself! Just imagine al the cool things that will come if we continue to support VMK through buying pins and booking trips to Disney?

Bravo!
