This week Yavn reports from Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and gets "spaced out" on all the upcoming changes to VMK! It's all live and direct from Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida!
Yavn Speaks 10/30
2006 World Tour
Greetings from Walt Disney World! More specifically, the Magic Kingdom - where I'm typing and riding at the same time (you gotta love that Blackberry)! I'm here checking out Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party - where everyone is arriving all dressed up! This is my first time at the event and I've heard the fireworks are pretty special. The VMK team has had a great week here, planning new Quests and additions to the game -- and now we can hardly wait to get this cool stuff into the game!
I hope you've enjoyed Halloween in VMK. I think you will be even more impressed with what we are planning for the holidays, and if all goes well you'll be up to your "ears" in holidays in just a few days!!
Hey, but what you're really here for is some inside info, right? So without any further ado here's the 411 on what's going to be coming to VMK:
Space. The Final Frontier?
Sneaky players that peeked ahead on the Calendar noticed a rather spacey theme for November. So I guess it really doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out November is Space Month - but the real news is we'll be kicking off the celebration with a 3-day Space Mountain Ride-A-Thon!!!
That's right, we've created a brand new set of ride tracks, but we have more exciting new twists - join us November 3rd, 4th, and 5th and win special track pieces -- before they go on sale! But that's not all, we'll be blasting off the month in style with an Individual Ride Building Competition! (More details are coming soon, until then hold on tight!) So hop on Space Mountain this weekend and ride to win! Itching to see some of those tracks?...
http://avmk.disney.go.com/avmk_v0300/en_US/media/calendar/2006-1030-YavnSpks-SMntTrck.jpg Win cool track pieces BEFORE they go on sale - it all happens in the Space-Mountain Ride-A-Thon this weekend, Nov. 3rd, 4th & 5th.
Hooray for Holidays!
Well, that about wraps things up for this week - I'm off to catch one last ride on the Haunted Mansion before the fireworks start - I hope you get lots of treats and no tricks this Halloween - and speaking of treats, I've got one for you - just take a look at the screen below!

You've got questions, Yeti has answers

When Disneyland first opened, none of the rides were roller coaster-type thrills - what was the first fast ride at a Disney park?
- Pogoagogo
Dear Pogoagogo,
Inspired by the movie Third Man on the Mountain, the Matterhorn was part of a huge development project to enhance Fantasyland. Built by Arrow Dynamics, the Matterhorn Bobsleds was not only the first fast ride at any Disney Park (the attraction debuted in 1959, just four years after Disneyland opened), it also has another distinction - it's the world's first tubular steel roller coaster! Steel roller coasters existed before the Matterhorn but the cars rode on flat steel tracks, instead of tubular track. Today, almost all steel coasters ride on tube steel tracks - all decedents of the Matterhorn!
Dear Yeti,
I read somewhere that Disney animated films use Rotoscope techniques? What is Rotoscoping?
MissElizabethT
Dear MissElizabethT,
Besides a fancy technical term, rotoscoping is a technique used by animators to capture the lifelike and fluid movements of actors or animals. Basically it works like this: Animators capture live-action on film, then print the frames of action and use the images as a guide for animation. Original rotoscopes used by major Hollywood studios were actually projected onto glass and then traced by a studio animator. Disney animators actually preferred to use the action just as a guide for the animation, filling in the detail and animation by hand.
Do you have a question for the Yeti?
Send it to me through the Contact Us section at the bottom of this page. Be sure to have your VMK registration info with you (the email and information you registered with) and select Dear Yeti from the drop down menu. Each week I'll answer a question or two here in the Newsletter.

Who voiced Mickey Mouse in his earlier years?
Know the answer?
Send your answer using Contact Us at the bottom of this or the main VMK webpage. Be sure to have your VMK registration info with you and select Push's Trash Trivia from the drop down menu. Out of all the correct answers, three players will be randomly drawn as the winners and sent a cool prize. But hurry! Only entries submitted by the close of game on Friday will be accepted.
Here's the answer to last weeks Trash Trivia question:
Q: What devilish Disney villain was brought to life by the animation of Bill Tytla (with the help of music by Modest Mussorgsky)?
A: High atop his perch on Bald Mountain, Chernabog cast a dark shadow over a sleepy village in the Disney Classic, Fantasia.
Did you know: Animator Bill Tytla borrowed Ukrainian myths from his childhood, and concept imagery created by Danish artist Kay Nielsen to bring the frightening Chernabog to life. Horror-film star Bela Lugosi performed live-action reference for the giant demon, but Tytla was not satisfied with the end result and re-shot much of the reference footage.
Congratulations to the 3 lucky (and randomly picked) players that sent in the correct answer for last week's question! Your prize is on its way!

What makes a Guest Room award-worthy?
http://avmk.disney.go.com/avmk_v0300/en_US/media/calendar/VMK-newsletterBestGameRoom.jpg Guest or Game Rooms that stand out show originality in concept and design. It could be a use of conventional furniture in unconventional ways, the use of a theme or color, or humor. Game rooms that get the nod offer a new game idea or a new twist on an old favorite. In all rooms we look for room owners who welcome everyone with a smile and show a willingness to answer questions about their room.

Tips, Tricks, Hints, and How To's
Getting Great Fireworks Scores!
Have you ever hit all the fireworks in the Castle Fireworks Game and still not advanced to the next level? When the fireworks shoot up in the sky, wait until they almost burn out (when they begin to sparkle) and then click on them. The longer you wait before the disappear, the higher the score you will get. The more "flawless" clicks, the higher your score!
