View Full Version : Thoughts on the Halloween Maze Event?
StitchMad 10-30-2006, 08:02 PM So.. what are your thoughts on the Halloween Maze?
Personally, i think it is VERY good and VERY fun. But would be better if there was more than one space for walking in.
TOP TIP: Click the pumpkins or camp fires to move, then you can navigate yourself and not have to find the floor! :)
Number Of Dc's: 2
Have fun! And Good Luck! :)
EDIT: I just got in line for 20 mins. Got into the second room, and it was too full to enter! How unfair. That was red room.

PolarFish 10-30-2006, 08:28 PM atleast the pin will stay rare! :D
Exoxus 10-30-2006, 08:38 PM I'm currently in the line for he Black Start, is the red room through there? :ohno
Or is it just black rooms? LOL
PolarFish 10-30-2006, 08:39 PM HOST_Babs booted me in black because i could not move because of someone in teleport, i was about to move because she booted person in teleport, so she booted me!
OMG!
Exoxus 10-30-2006, 08:39 PM Does anyone have pics?
Oh, and Sukia, she did that to me on the Everest Ride-a-thon.
Because I got pushed off the track because it was rotated!
>.<
Tink's Fireworks 10-30-2006, 08:55 PM Uh Oh.... I REALLY need this pin!! i'm collecting the 06 holiday pins!
Schmoofy 10-30-2006, 09:56 PM My best tip is to stay calm. This is the first day of the event, there's tomorrow too. I say when you come home from Trick-or-Treating tomorrow night, log on and get in line quick.
Exoxus 10-30-2006, 09:58 PM The line is moving pretty fast, so I'm not getting really angry or anything, but.. I hate it when people stand there and say 'i bay be i no no how to walk plz ppl leave little me alone pls'. Grr..
FantasyBlueBoy 10-30-2006, 09:58 PM Good thing im not going trick or treating tomorrow.. ;)
camara 10-30-2006, 10:02 PM yeah, this is a little similar to last year's maze, but no where near close. When i got into the queve for the purple, i was behind 99 ppl. about 10 minutes later, it's now 48. so its a lot, but fast.
p.s: can somebody tell me the name of the skeleton in Nightmare before Christmas (the kid)? Is it Lock, Shock, or Barrel?
Exoxus 10-30-2006, 10:03 PM Barrel.
Yes, I agree about the fast part.
500+ people is too much for me.
SpaceGalaxy 10-30-2006, 10:11 PM OMG!
Babs's Room had to go through repair!

Actually in some places (Like where I live) TOT is tonight! :D
OMG!
Babs's Room had to go through repair!
Babs? ooo!
Exoxus 10-30-2006, 10:14 PM Yup. I got booted from red three steps away from the last room teleporter!
TravisSch 10-30-2006, 10:16 PM Yup. I got booted from red three steps away from the last room teleporter!
Aww man. I would be kicking myself if I were you.
SpaceGalaxy 10-30-2006, 10:17 PM I saw you Exoxus.
I mean, come on people!
We can't even walk into the door without getting boot.
TomorrowAlpha 10-30-2006, 10:21 PM I got into room and got booted, I think it was yellow, so I'm carefully watching my place in line now. Yay! From 98 to 36! I agree, at least they move fast, I'm not exactly what you would call patient:h-tongue: Oh my gosh, I dislike with a passion the 'bay be' thing on VMK. It is so annoying, I put on my signature one time 'I eat bay be for break fast! Muahaha!' It was funny! Ok, getting off topic.. I would like to know is the maze difficult?
BlueJalepeno 10-30-2006, 10:24 PM I really like this idea of this event, bc i while in line, which thanks goodness moves fast, I can do my homework :D
Is it difficult or is it easy like january's monster maze?
Exoxus 10-30-2006, 10:25 PM Easy.
No real choises, you just have to walk in a line through three rooms. LOL
Just so you know, the Green Second Room is blocked up to full. >.< Yeah, I learned that the hard way.
TravisSch 10-30-2006, 10:43 PM Hey. If you are excited about this maze event, read the newsletter, there's going to be an INDIVIDUAL Space Month Ride Building Event.
Note: I said Individual, not Team!
moviedude 10-30-2006, 11:27 PM i loved this event. :-) great work VMK!
F0REVERL0ST 10-31-2006, 12:05 AM Not nearly as fun as last year, but the line was much shorter!
Teselo 10-31-2006, 12:31 AM I love the maze! The line is moving quickly and there's an awesome prize. It's pretty fun too ^^
mightyman335 10-31-2006, 12:57 AM i got one in the orange line!
Zebraa 10-31-2006, 01:20 AM I like it. The line moves fast, and a brick could do the green one XD
Qui-gon 10-31-2006, 01:20 AM Like I said, you can get in green in less then 10 minutes right now. And no more line in between rooms. Personally, I like this one.
~Q/S
AwesomeTom 10-31-2006, 01:26 AM I like the lines for this one, but for some reason, last years was just much more fun, and leaders were actually told they do not need us this time. Gasp :h-wink:
JessCats 10-31-2006, 03:02 AM it would help if people did not stay in that last room because some people just hang out and it slows things down.
Speed_Bolt 10-31-2006, 01:43 PM Dude!! I tought that that was way to easy. I had no problems at all getting through here. Did anyone else think it was way to easy?
AwesomeM 10-31-2006, 02:54 PM HOST_Babs booted me in black because i could not move because of someone in teleport, i was about to move because she booted person in teleport, so she booted me!
OMG! HOST_Hula did that to me! there was a little space on the side of the start piece and i accidentally went in it and got stuck and right as i got out and was about to get in Hula booted me :(
fun4life 10-31-2006, 07:50 PM Do you've get only 1 pin? Because i've didn't got one in the Red one :(
Neoteny 10-31-2006, 07:55 PM Do you've get only 1 pin? Because i've didn't got one in the Red one :(
One pin per player, sorry.
StitchMad 10-31-2006, 07:58 PM Cindrbells (Sp) asked Babs if we got another today and she said yes we do.
I didn't get one!! :(
Neoteny 10-31-2006, 08:00 PM Cindrbells (Sp) asked Babs if we got another today and she said yes we do.
I didn't get one!! :(
So we should each be able to get two pins?
StitchMad 10-31-2006, 08:01 PM So we should each be able to get two pins?
Yes we should.
EDIT: Maybe it starts giving prizes in half a hour, when the it says it will start! ;)
prisoner 10-31-2006, 08:12 PM Yes we should.
EDIT: Maybe it starts giving prizes in half a hour, when the it says it will start! ;)
Nope, it started giving prizes immediately after opening, which is when I tried and finally got mine.
I was amazed - those rooms were MUCH simpler than they were yesterday. I can see why people thought I was crazy saying the rooms were such a mess.
Now they're just... plain.
Ah well. Better luck next event.

Yesterday's rooms were much nicer, but people couldn't navigate them, and everybody was getting stuck, so staff were forced to simplify things. It's unfortunate, as I'm sure they put a lot of hard work into designing and building the more complex versions, but I guess staff should know by now that things are going to get crowded very quickly.

Given the two rooms I saw yesterday, I'm not sure I would have said they were "nicer". Lots more stuff, sure.
I agree - it is a shame that they had such trouble yesterday (and still some today). But thats part of designing rooms... isn't it?
Smoop 10-31-2006, 08:35 PM Here's my two cents on the event. First of all, I think the VMK Staff/Disney team did an fantastic job with this concept. In theory, a huge maze event is great accomplishment. I also made a maze game myself, and I can't begin to tell you the difficulty in designing it. You need to make sure that the teleports connect, there is plenty of room for the players to navigate around, and you keep up some sort of a room theme. My only gripe about this event was already rectified by the end of the night, however I will still express it.
First and foremost, when designing a maze event, there needs to be PLENTY of walking room in case a player get's stuck, dc, their computer freezes.. whatever the reason. When connecting teleports, the first thing to remember is HOW many people will be in this event? If it's going to be a line out the door, then the teleports should not jump from Room A, to Room B, back to Room A. With normal players rooms, there will be a queue, but with a staff room, it's possible they can get the error that there's too many people in line. That happened to a few players yesterday and it's unfortunate that they waited all that time for nothing. VMK was great yesterday to have a lot of staff around to help players that got stuck or to clear jams that occured. What I don't understand is how come Community Leaders were not involved with helping with the event. They could have easier directed traffic to the players that weren't sure of what they were doing. When dealing with maze events, it's very helpful to have somebody in the room helping players who get lost.
All in all, VMK pretty much figured out how to correct these problems so the lines did run more smoothly during the day time. For those who weren't there at the begining to see the rooms, they were truly an awesome design. HOST_Sparky did an real outstanding job making the Caribbean Start room. Very well designed. It's unfortunate that there were so many players that caused the traffic jam.
Here's a thought to the VMK Staff/Design team. Perhaps in the future, you can make a start room with a choice of 4 to 5 different paths (keep it simple). Time it so the players alternate which choice they have and how long they wait before they enter the official start room. Once they leave the begining start room, they now can embark on a true start room with a more detailed maze. The only problem with this is the man power in the first start room (that is, opening and closing the turnstiles). I know last year, Poseidon had something like this at a staff event and it worked VERY well.
Just a thought and thanks for reading my two cents. :)
