Hi Friends!

Well I justed been informed that Oklahome will be our school musical this year. I don't really like it but I want to try out. Now tryouts aren't till March but i'm already nervous! I know I know, i'm silly. But it's the first year we have a musical at the school! There are really good boy voices in chours and there are only 10 boy leads. 15 girl leads. Here are some of the main charatcers:

Curly McLain (Male, Main)
Ado Annie Carnes (Female, Main)
Will Parker (Male)
Aunt Eller Murphy (Female)
Laurey Williams (Female?)
Ali Hakim (Male?)
Andrew Carnes (Male?)
Jud Fry (Male?)
Gertie Cummings (Female)
Ike Skidmore (???)
Marshal Cord Elam (Male)
Dream Curley (Male)
Dream Laurey (Female)

I was hoping to try out for Curley or Will. One thing is that Curley kisses Ado. EEK! But i probably wont get that part anyway! Well heres the REAL point of this post. Do you guys have any tips for me? I have to remember 3 songs! Any tips? Any support or vocal advice is welcome! And if your wondering The 'Jr.' just means it's shorter and not as many songs as the real version.
Thanks guys!

Songs:

Song: Surrey With The Fringe On Top

When I take you out, tonight, with me,
Honey, here's the way it's goin' to be:
You will set behind a team of snow white horses,
In the slickest gig you ever see!

Chicks and ducks and geese better scurry
When I take you out in the surrey,
When I take you out in the surrey with the fringe on top!
Watch that fringe and see how it flutters
When I drive them high steppin' strutters.
Nosey pokes'll peek thru' their shutters and their eyes will pop!
The wheels are yeller, the upholstery's brown,
The dashboard's genuine leather,
With isinglass curtains y' can roll right down,
In case there's a change in the weather.
Two bright sidelight's winkin' and blinkin',
Ain't no finer rig I'm a-thinkin'
You c'n keep your rig if you're thinkin' 'at I'd keer to swap
Fer that shiny, little surrey with the fringe on the top!

Sweet! I've heard of Oklahoma before. :D
Well, I've been in a play before, and have given several performances with my chorus before. Here's some tips:
- Even though you have to stick with a script, add just a little bit ( Don't go overboard ) with your own ad-libs.
- Add life into your characters.
- Rehearse several times in front of your family.
- Have fun, and think about good things when you're performing.

Our Choir has to memorize like, 10 songs, and what I did is read the songs ten times, and then sing each verse. It works.

I don't know what we're doing this year, but last year I was in Grease.
Good luck!!!!

Awesome! I LOVE Oklahoma! I saw it at my Community Theatre. Anyways here are some tips since I have been leading roles in all my school's productions (Not my middle school because there hasn't been one yet.)

Audition Tips

~Try to have a southern accent and not just be plain. Try to make your charater's words yours!
~Practice your songs as much as possible! Maybe even google them or go on itunes and see how they really sound like!

~If you have to do a poem or monolauge try to google a 'Dramtic' Poem if your charcter is dramatic or try to google 'funny' poems if your charater is funny!

~Try practicing if front of your mom or dad because your siblings will lie I bet. Parents don't want you to embarass yourself at auditions.

To Impress Your Director

~When at auditions if nobody else wants to go first take a deep breathe and go on. This will show your director that you are conifdent.

~If someone messes up just go along with it and get them back on track. If somebody messes up on stage your director will know that you are ready and give you a big shot at the part.

~Use eye contact with the director so they don't get bored.
That's all I can think of now!
