View Full Version : We need some advertising..

We really need to advertise the wiki. Everyone works very hard on it yet nobody really goes there besides the editors, so its all a waste. I hate when I see people come into a forum and say "what is this so called wiki i have never heard of it give me a link" when is it really so hard just to click "Wiki FAQ" at the top of the page?!

How about we brainstorm ideas on how to advertise and then put the more realistic ones in action?

How about we start by making signatures with links for the forums?
I can make some but I'm not the best with art programs yet and I don't have time at the moment.

Other ideas anyone?

Yeppers. Hehe of course billions go on the wiki daily, including tons of student.

I was talking about our wiki so to speak, the one about VMK, ToonTown, and Disney in general, hence the name Disney's Online Worlds.

Wow, that's a great idea!! It's a great source of info and that would certainly spread it around!!

Wow, that's a great idea!! It's a great source of info and that would certainly spread it around!!Technically, the FAQ button at the top of the page (the one with the elephant on it) already goes to the wiki; the page it takes you to is just one click away from the "Virtual Magic Kingdoms" page. But it might be helpful to actually label the button "wiki".

If you click on "VMK Game Guide" in the Site Navigation sidebar of the forums homepage, it takes you directly to the wiki for VMK and Toontown. But who would know this unless they clicked on it? Again, if you want people to use the wiki, it needs to be clearly labeled on this site.

As a side note, I have used the wiki numerous times. It is a wonderful reference for inventory items, in particular. Not all of the information can be as up to date as the threads on the forums, however, simply because of the time it takes an editor to add it. There are times when searching the appropriate forum makes more sense, and I hope that the "sticked" threads are not neglected in the process of filling up the wiki.

Actually, I think "Wiki" might be a confusing term to many. Not everybody knows what a wiki is, and those who do probably think only of Wikipedia. "Disney's Online Worlds," while a good name for the project, doesn't really convey the scope of it, either, and what a wonderful resource it is. Maybe something along the lines of "VMK Reference Guide"?

Or maybe I'm just butting in where I'm not wanted. ;)

Or maybe I'm just butting in where I'm not wanted. ;)Personally, I don't think the name of the guide on the site matters nearly as much as how it is labeled here, because I constantly see people directed to "Use the Wiki!" Since Wiki appears to be the common term associated with this project, people will naturally look for something with that label to click on. ;)

But I do see how folks might confuse the "Disney's Online Worlds Guides and Wiki" with Wikipedia.

Maybe refer to it as the "VMK Wiki"...if you type that into google, the Disney Online Wiki comes up first.

Well, the reason why nobody really goes to it is because all of the information that it has is what we already know, or don't really care about. I guess it is useful when you are wondering how rare a beta item is. But, ALOT of people don't have beta and ALOT of people aren't trading beta, therefore ALOT of people don't need the wiki. All of the information needed is shown on the homepage and updated on the homepage. I've probably been to the disney wiki once. I've never "used" it.

But i don't have anything against the advertisement. Good luck with more viewers!

I think this is actually a confusing problem we have. If we mention "wiki", then people think we're talking about wikipedia. If we don't, people have no clue what we're talking about.

Probably never should have started calling it "The Wiki" in the first place.

Oh well.
