View Full Version : Little Mermaid Ride
Sdude 10-24-2006, 12:37 AM This is cool look-
Tony Baxter said in a recent laughing place interview that if enough letters are written to Imagineering it may convince the suits to build this excellent attraction. Please show your support. People on the other Disney websites are supporting this as well.
he said it could be in Fantasyland in MK (and also it'll be a dark ride)
I'll gladly support this! It's a wonderfully unique attraction, and would be an excellent edition to any of the parks. It would work great in Fantasyland of MK in Florida, but also I think it'd work great in Paradise Pier at DCA. Perhaps the ride could go on part of the 20K land in MK?

sisterfish 10-24-2006, 07:48 PM how do I support?
Schmoofy 10-24-2006, 07:51 PM Lalala, rumour floating around about WDW's MK.
Let me explain this rumour.
First off, some of you know how large 20K was. Those people that know this also know that the 100 Acre Wood playground is about 1/6th the size of the land used. So what to do with the other land? Rumour is, that an underwater land is coming. It's a strong rumour, too.
Ideas such as a "Crush Coaster", Little Mermaid dark ride, a Little Mermaid show from TDL, Aquatopia, and a new character meet and greet are just some of the ideas I've been hearing on other sites. This does seem logical, too. The "meet Ariel" location is right there, and there is land behind it. This would be a great addition.
jsmall 10-24-2006, 07:56 PM i think it wouldn't be cool. it like Disneyland the way it is, sorry people.
Noelle 10-24-2006, 08:22 PM They show a clip about the ride and how it will be made in the new Little Mermaid DVD that just came out.
AstroScarlett 10-24-2006, 08:36 PM I support it! Fantasyland WDW could use a little sproucing up (yea I know I spelled it wrong)

This would go along with what I suggested. I'm glad others feel the same! An underwater area would be great... with a good mix of Little Mermaid (Dark Ride, perhaps a version of Jumping Jellyfish, a show from TDL), Finding Nemo (Crush Coaster), random attractions (Aquatopia). It would all work so well, and the land is right there.

Neoteny 10-24-2006, 09:04 PM They show a clip about the ride and how it will be made in the new Little Mermaid DVD that just came out.
That supplement on the Little Mermaid DVD is a must-see! The DVD includes interviews with the Imagineers and an animated ride-through of the proposed attraction. It looks like a great dark ride.
bluefairy37 10-24-2006, 09:07 PM I hope this rumor is true!
Nemofinder 10-24-2006, 09:09 PM A non-pixar ride! You'd think it would be a Nemo ride there's been alot of Pixar though so maybe they are taking a break I too also hope this rumor is true

Well, there is a Finding Nemo attraction opening next year in Disneyland....
(in Tomorrowland, of course, because Finding Nemo is such a futuristic movie)
(I hate how Disney's taken the "tomorrow" out of "Tomorrowland.")

yea you'd think fantasyland, but maybe they ran out of room there, or they already had the subs there so why make another ride
sisterfish 10-25-2006, 06:53 AM If they do make the ride...I hope:
It wouldn't be a very dark ride
It's suited for 3 and up ( its not so scary)
It's not a roller coaster
Ursula would not scare us and do her evil laugh

Your kidding? In tomorrowland? I guess its just an imagineers's goof, they must have forgotten that 2001 was there because it was science fiction back in the good ole days.
Does anyone know if their putting a FN attraction in Tokyo Sea. If there's any place where it would make sense to put one, its there.
GraspingClaw 10-25-2006, 02:54 PM Despite the amazing quality of Pixar films and the attention and supervision of John Lassetter on the upcoming Finding Nemo ride, the Pixar-ization of Disneyland is a little worrisome. At the rate they're going it seems like they'll be occupying a disproportionate part of the park.
As far as Finding Nemo opening in Tomorrowland, it still kind of makes sense. I mean, it is the continued exploration of liquid space, and the ability to cleary understand talking fish can only be described as science fiction..

But its not going to be about exploring the deep depths of the ocean and making real futuristic discoveries. Its about fish who can talk, which has no scientific implications (well if aliens genetically enhanced them... well now it fits), and thus should be in fantasyland.

In a perfect world, I agree with you. But obviously there's no possible way, without disrupting the entire lay-out of Disneyland, to transport a submarine lagoon into Fantasyland. Maybe they could just redraw the boundaries of Fantasyland on the map to include the Subs. In any case, I think good, slightly improperly-themed rides are better than no rides at all.
P.S. If you recall, the original Voyage included Mermaids (they're also prominently featured on the attraction poster), mythical sea monsters, the lost continent of Atlantis, and while less decipherable than their Pixar counterparts, even some "talking" fish. Not a whole lot of "real futuristic discoveries" or "scientific implications" there either..

I didn't know about those, (I can only go to WDW), but yeah the location is certainly annoying, anyways back to The Little Mermaid. This one better be in fantasyland, lol.
I wonder why the put the WDW 2001 in fantasy land, well, at least that makes it more convenient for this ride.
dogsdogs 10-26-2006, 04:26 AM Oh! i heard of this
I saw it when i was on Disney Motion Video
According to the video, imaginears made it up, but it never became a ride.
Here's the site, but you have to find it. Here (http://video.disney.go.com/motion/index?category=Theme%20Parks&video=SecretsofSleepingBeautyCastle_CN00111)
Look in Collections then click The Little Mermaid
Then on the list, click the video Mermaid Ride

Also that it was a nice bit of interview diplomacy, but one reason the ride was turned down was that it was eventually REPLACED by bigger ideas--
Namely, the Grotto, and the "Voyage" show at MGM (which will also be closed once the musical opens on Broadway to avoid confusion, even though the musical will probably be just rehashing the Tokyo show).
Create rumors all you want, but learn to tell Current Rumors apart from History.
disnyfreek 10-31-2006, 05:52 PM That would be awesome!
Caterpillar AEIOU 01-28-2007, 06:39 AM In 1994 Disney Imagineering held a competition for Cast members at WDW and DLR.
I was one of 6 finalist. That is how I got my internship with WDI.
I designed a Little Mermaid attraction.
Disney "used" my attraction design in a watered down version at DCA.
What I designed was Massive!
I designed an "underwater" caroussel, feauring seashorse, sea animals etc, instead of regular horses. It was to be housed inside of an aquarium, with the ride itself inside of a dome.I designed the queue to be inside of a sunken ship, on the bottom of what used to be 20,000 leagues in fantasyland. There is a lot more detail to it than it sounds, with lighting effect, smell, lasers, etc.
We even built a mock up of it.
The could still put that ride at the MK, in the original form.
King Tritons is nice, and I am really honored and thrilled to see my "baby" in a Disney park, but it wasnt really what I had in mind.
Maybe one day.....

Did you get any credit for the concept? Like, your name hidden somewhere in the attraction, like some designers names are hidden throughout the parks?
DerekJ 01-28-2007, 08:15 AM Actually, think something like the Massive was used for Tokyo DisneySeas' version (with more of a Grotto motif).
JeannieV 01-28-2007, 08:19 AM I have heard ALL about this competition on a Podcast. It is really interesting. As for rights...you signed those away LONG ago once entering. But yes, she had to give every little detail of the ride into WDI.
It is a fun idea and I hope some of you try out for it too one day.
I hope to see a LM ride. But I am a HUGE fan of the show as well. A ride that used live actors (Like GMR) would be nice for this movie.
Neoteny 01-28-2007, 08:22 AM I'm not talking about rights or royalties. Just credit.
CapnOlaf 01-28-2007, 09:12 AM Rights or Royalties? @_@
What do you mean by that.
I am not sure about the ride though, according to the DVD, this ride has been
how do I say it? On hiatus for over a decade.
Caterpillar AEIOU 01-28-2007, 09:12 PM Did you get any credit for the concept? Like, your name hidden somewhere in the attraction, like some designers names are hidden throughout the parks?
Sort of, I got a certificate, a Sculpture, with my name on it.
I got a trip to DLR ( I worked at WDW at the time)
an internship, a lot of $!.I got a Grant to pay for the mock up of my ride.
I did sign over all of the rights, but I knew that, going into it.
There was an article in the Cast Newsletters at both WDW and DLR, giving my credit for the attraction, with my picture with Marty Sklar. ( Head Imaginner) I met Roy Disney.
We have discussed it going into the Florida park.
The locations considered were inside the living seas, Fanstasyland, and a new area at Animal Kingdom.
I thought that it was kind of cool that Marty Sklar took his corporate Photograph, on one of the the horses on the ride.

lol. I'm still trying to understand why Nemo's musical is in Dinoland in Animal Kingdom, and why Monster's inc. Laugh Factory is in Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom.
hmm, if anybody has info about a new contest or anything to show ride ideas or concepts to cast members or imagineers, please let me know through a pm, instant message on aim, etc. Thanks!

Very cool. And a belated "Congratulations" to you! :)
PrincessBellexoxo 01-28-2007, 09:53 PM That is so cool! I definetely think it would fit in best at the Animal Kingdom. Fantasyland would alos be cool. But i dont think it would really work at the Living Seas since they just put up the Nemo ride there that has forver long lines. they wouldnt need anymore crowds there. but i definetely hink Animal Kingdom would be best. it would be so cool if thi actually happened.
Cmkrebs 01-28-2007, 11:44 PM i would love to see a little mermaid ride, i think it should be in the mk in fantsayland (sp) where the thousand leagues under the sea was (talkn about wdw) it would be perfect there unless wdw has plans for that area. the magic kingdom in wdw needs something new, not a show but a ride, yes i know they are building a comdey club thing but come on they need something better than that.
KingdomsKeeper 01-31-2007, 10:40 PM I saw the video on google video. It, if it is ever made, will rock
why does Disneyland get everything any way i looked at some stuff about the park a few things are good but compared to WDW which also by the way makes 2x as much money if u dont believe me look it up it stinks
May we never forget those who lost there lives for us.
http://usaflag.gif
CapnOlaf 02-02-2007, 01:08 PM I don't think it will be made.
Neoteny 02-02-2007, 02:37 PM I don't think it will be made.
Well, seeing as The Little Mermaid is not a Pixar film, you're probably right.

LOL, good point.

Thanks so much.
My parents were here for a week, my Mom just saw it in person, for the first time. She cried! My dad had to tell EVERYONE within ear shot that his daughter had designed the ride! It was kind of funny.
jsmall 03-01-2007, 11:52 AM Thats cool im always up for new stuff
Proracer1 03-01-2007, 10:36 PM The storyline for the nemo submarine ride is that you are a group of scientists researching an underwater valcano and meeting up with characters from the movie as they search for nemo.So it does kinda make sense in tomorrowland.
CapnOlaf 03-01-2007, 10:47 PM Nah, too awkward of a story line.
Proracer1 03-01-2007, 10:56 PM Actually your right
