My quick and easy way to learn french, why learn french? because it is a common language and if you ever visit france you will be able to have a fluent conversation! :) This will be the basics to french writing and speaking now try saying these words and memorise their spelling.

Basic conversation skills

Bonjour - Hello
Comment tu t'appelles? - What is your name?
Je m'appelle_____ - My name is _____
Ca va? - How are you?
Tre bien - Very good
Bien - Good
Bof - Ok
Merci - Thank you
Au revoir - Good bye

Once you have learned this you can have a simple conversation in french!

Numbers 1-12

1 = un
2 = deux ( sounds like duh )
3 = trois ( sounds like too wa you don't pronounce the s or the r)
4 = quatre (sounds like cat tre)
5= cinq ( this is pronounced as sank)
6 = six ( the i is six is pronounced like an e in french)
7 = sept
8 = huit ( pronounced as wheat)
9 = neuf ( sounds like nurf)
10 = dix
11 = onze
12 = douze

When you have learned these numbers you will be able to do simple maths in french!

French is a language that both adult and kids can learn ( i have been learning french for two years now!) I'll be adding more tomorrow (french alphabet and months). If you ever want to test your selves on these words just PM me and i'll send you some questions :)

I speak some French, but it's a lot easier to have pronunciations (;)) because if you don't, you're probably not speaking with a correct accent. It's a great guide, but I think it needs more pronunciations.

correction--tres bien means very good.

here's some more if anyone is interested,

un=masculine way to say "a/an"
une=feminine way to say "a/an"

in spanish, french, and italian, everything is feminine or masculine.

here's more

un ami=a friend (male)
une amie=a friend (female)
je suis americain=i am american (male)
je suis americaine=i am american (female)
il est midi=it is midday
il est [number] heures=it is [number] hours
un garson=a boy (the s is usually the accent that looks like a c with a squiggle)
une fille=a girl
rende-vous=date/appointment/meeting
comment ca va?/ca va?=how are you (casual way to say it)
comment allez-vous?=how are you (formal way--used to greet adults)
madame=mrs.
madamoiselle(sp?)=miss
monsiuer(sp?)=mr

some responses to "how are you?" (ca va/comment ca va/comment allez vous?)
tres bien=very good
bien=good
commeci commesa=so-so
mal=bad
pas mal=really bad

you say Ca va before one of the phrases above. so for example...

friend: Comment ca va?
you: Ca va tres bien, merci :)

and if you want to ask how they are in return...

friend: Comment ca va?
you: Ca va tres bien, et toi?

i know more but that's off the top of my head >_<

edit: i think you messed up the pronunciation. neuf is pronounced like you say enough, and deux is pronounced like do. six is pronounced like sees.

Guys, it's great you want to teach people some French, but this is an English only site.

It's hard for me to do this, but I have to close this thread. (there's a bunch of typos up there too, for the record ;))

I encourage you all to take French though :rolleyes:... why? Um... I dunno? :D

I'm resisting the urge to correct the pronounciations and spellings...

but i can tell you deux is not do. it's deuh like saying "euuuuuuuuuh!" with a d in front.
Neuf some people add that little R'ish sound in it to make it sound a bit "nerf"y. it's not wrong that way.
Pas mal means not bad. It doesn't mean really bad. Très mal means really bad.

Arg. This makes me want to continue. Must stop... I do this for too many hours in a day already :(.
