Scenario: I finally have a working combination teleporter/race/obstacle course game. I think its pretty fun - assorted visitors do too.
I was originally going to label it an "A-ticket" attraction - charge a pin to play, winner gets two pins. (Just try to explain that with the dictionary.) Several of the early testers suggested this was a bad idea - don't charge anything, just award a pin.
What is the general consensus of people about charging to play games?

I think you have to decide what is more important to you: entertaining a lot of people and having a popular room, or getting something in return for your furniture/prize/time investment.
I'll never charge for my rooms, but I make enough credits in Fireworks (and doing the "NPC shuffle" once a day) to defray all of my operating costs. The thought has crossed my mind of using some ridiculously expensive item as a rationing device for admission into future Late Night shows, but I realize that would just make a bunch of people mad and I'm still on a quest to be "all things to all people". :D
Charging is probably a bit of a hassle too since you have to initiate a unique trade with every participant. Fortunately, they have at least made it so you can continue to operate your room at the same time you have a trading window open.
Good luck with whatever you decide...maybe try it both ways and find your own preference!

I think you should not do that because people on VMK well usually and probaly well go to another room.

Good timing - I was actually about to followup to let everyone know my results. Thank you MrGenie and "Zim and Gir" for your input.
Ultimately, I decided not to charge. I figured it would also slow the loading process, and its a hastle to manage that as it is. And I figured that I could scrape up enough to award 10 or so pins a night or something without going completely broke.
I was absolutely shocked to discover that some people were not only willing to pay, but to contribute to the cause. :) I think I have to figure out how I can fit a sponsor lounge and fastpass queue into my layout. (So in case you're on here, a big THANK YOU to vmkrules and Adventurekid.)

Nowadays I'm awarding posters.
And going broke nightly. {:
Still, I think its easier than trying to charge for the game. And I'm glad I can give anything out! But the "going broke nightly" part is kinda wearying.

I do not play (or hold, for that matter) any games that "charge" for the game. First of all, you can never trust the person on the other side. I went into a Falling Furniture game and this person kept losing and paying to still be in the game. But the owner of the room never gave the winner a prize! I would call that scamming.
btw: Prisoner, your game is amazing. Thank you.

I think if you want a popular room do not charge because people will leave if they have to pay. But if you want as Mr. Genie said something in return do charge!

I've played your game and I think it's great. But if you charged people, you'd probably get a bunch of kids saying how unfair you are. But IMO it's worth an admission charge.
