PaperClip 10-13-2006, 03:37 AM Anyone want to post their computer set up? For those of you that haven't figured it out, I am a real computer geek. Just thought I would add that! ;)
PaperClip 10-13-2006, 03:41 AM My answer: A piece of Junk that goes way to slow... really it's a gateway. I dont know computer language.:11:
Great point! Do you have the model number? I can look it up and get the specs for you.
Noelle 10-13-2006, 12:05 PM My neighbor who is also a computer geek custom built one for me. I told him what I needed at the time and went on the low side, aka cheaper side. Now, I kind of wish I had beefed it up a little more. I'm actually supposed to be working on this computer though. Yes, I'm one of those that keeps the game in the background and my work full screen on top. And then when no one is looking...muhaha

soccerrunner 10-14-2006, 03:29 PM Thanks for the reassurances, you two!
The thing I am worried about most is the graphics card. The only option was the Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 950. Now, I am not your typical hard-core gamer, but I do enjoy some games. The computer I currently have does not perform well with Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 (which is my all time favorite game).
Does anyone who has had experience with this particular graphics card have any input as to how it will perform with a game like Roller Coaster Tycoon?
Once again, thanks! :D

You should take off the serial number. If you ask me, this doesn't belong in this thread. What does belong here is the Processor and Processor speed, etc.
PowerGirl 10-14-2006, 08:03 PM My answer: A piece of Junk that goes way to slow... really it's a gateway. I dont know computer language.:11:
Lol neither do I. Mine is an Acer Laptop, goes pretty fast, I am very satisfied with it and I love it like the, uh, computer I never had. First laptop!! :h-biggrin
MichelleXL 10-14-2006, 08:23 PM We have four computers and a laptop in the house. I'm only going to list mine, as it's right in front of me :D
HP Pavillion a1440n
Intel Viiv Technology
Intel Pentium D Dual Processor
2.0 GB Memory
250 GB Hard Drive
Also has a DVD Burner with Lightscribe techology, which I absolutely love. I like to make videos (from home video footage, etc.) and then burn the labels on, comes in handy and the results are really nice and professional looking.
Michelle
PaperClip 10-14-2006, 09:54 PM I'll bet you like that Viiv! I HAD one that had Viiv, but shipped it back to HP, since it crashed 2 days after getting it.

Yes, really like the features of the computer. Have had it for about 4 months and is working perfectly. ::knock on wood::
Did they ever figure out what was wrong with it? Maybe something jarred inside or a similar problem. The place where I purchased my computer would not let me take it out of the store until they hooked it up and ran some tests on it. After about an hour, I was finally able to take it home.

I never used intergrated Video with the MB, im guessing it should be decent, nothing special but idk really how old the game is, you can have the oldest game and the best vid card in teh world and the graphics will still be decent it all depends on how it was rendered and stuff... so expect the least and most of the time ull be surprised, but I would ask others since i never use interegrated stuff such as sound or video

I have the same Video Card and like you, I am also not a hardcore PC gamer.
I do play RCT3. The performance is not the best, but the game is definitely playable. By "not the best" I mean not as good as it would be played on a PC with an Nvidia Card or ATI Card.
The Sims 2 also plays pretty well.

Oh okay. As long as it is decent, I am fine with it.
You see, on my current video card, if you zoom out too much in RCT3, the track pieces begin to disappear (don't ask me why). So I was hoping this video card would not have the same problem.
You don't have this problem with this video card, do you?

I have the same graphics card in one of my old computers! I got it out last night and then I installed RCT3 and there was the same problem. I guess it is fine.

Thark 10-18-2006, 02:29 PM Just got my new computer yay!!
Dell Inpiron E1705
Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 2.16 Ghz processor
2 Gb DDR2 667 mhz ram
nVidia 7900 GS Graphics Card
Windows media center
Its a speed demon.
Now my desktop on the other hand. It runs like a turtle.
Dell Dimension 2400
Intel Celeron 2.4 ghz Processor (slower than anything i knew possible)
1.5 Gb DDR Ram
Bfg GeForce 6200 graphics card (PCI, I dont have PCI-express)
Windows Home Edition
I was thinking of buying a P4P CPU upgrade from powerleap, supposed to be only real processor upgrade available for my desktop.
NOTE: A great program if you just got a new computer is Norton Ghost 10.0. Run a back up as soon as you get your computer, it will continuously run back ups by your schedule and then if something goes wrong in the future you can restore your computer to any point you chose. I love it, no more going through the long process of wiping hard drive clean, reinstalling windows..etc.. I am only on the trial version though, the real thing is expensive.

I found that the Norton Ghost 10.0 runs about $70 for a year subscription. yes its a lot, but if you have a new computer i think it might be worth it.
Its features are:
Back Up
Back Up Now - lets you make a recovery point, in case you get a virus you can chose any number of recovery points you like to before you got the virus and your computer will be like it was when you made the back up.
Edit Back Up Schedule - you can set a schedule for each time a back up can be made, kinda like setting a schedule to run a virus scan.
Copy My hard Drive (Advanced) - When you want to upgrade or add a second hard drive you can use this feature to copy all your files, programs, and settings to the new hard drive.
Recovery
Recover My computer - recover your computer to a recovery point when your computer was working properly (love this feature)
Recover My Files - using a recovery point you can recover specific files or folders that were lost damaged or deleted, or even changed.
Explore Recovery Points - You can explore files and folders in your existing recovery points.
Optimize Recovery Point Storage - optimize the hard drive space being used for the storage of your back ups.
Note: I do not know if getting this product would be good for an existing hard drive because you dont know if you already have a virus or spyware and the backup would copy those too. If you have a brand new hard drive or computer this is a good product.

I think that the new AMD is the best out right now! I tried one the other day out at Circuit City, and just loved it! I even bought one for one of my computers. Even with that one having very little RAM and a very little Hard Drive, it is a real speed demon! I think it even beats my new computer!
Alienboy 10-30-2006, 12:10 AM yeh AMD is the best out for gaming but ghz and speed wise I thikn Intel is...For some reason I like having a higher number for ghz and having it be dual core makes it even more, just me tho and it works great with my comp and everything i do with it
winniesdapooh 10-30-2006, 12:19 AM i use i DELL Latitude D600. i dont know anything about computers, i am just reading off wat my computer has on the top left corner of my key pad.

PaperClip 10-30-2006, 09:52 PM I never said they didnt have dual core but that exta .6 Will make me lean towards it for some reason
On one of my computers (Gateway 818GM) I have an older AMD64 3800+ and I have run some tests between that one and the new processor. Believe it or not, they both had the exact same time rating! I looked and I have a 3.8 GHz AMD64 Live! and an AMD64 3800+ @ 2.40 GHz. Most of what is really getting the 3800+ to go is that there is more RAM in that one over most of my other computers.

Dell XPS Laptop M1210
Intel Core 2 Duo Proccessor
Windows XP Professional
Windows Vista Capable

2 GB of RAM
A LOT OF Battery Life (lol...)
Its a really nice laptop, and I use it for school, games, and just about everything...
I forgot about my XPS at home:
It was about $5500. Thats pretty expensive for a desktop.
Intel Core Processor
2GB of Memory (I think, I dunno much about computers)
1TB Hard Drive
Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Office Pre-Installed (no additional price)
Windows Vista Capable
Yeah, thats all I know. I have two computers, and use them both. When I say I use my laptop for everything, most of it is for work...and the desktop I use at home...
OH YEAH!!
My printer is a photo/regular printer (Epson Stylus Photo R1800) And my other one is a laser (HP Color LaserJet 4700n Printer), and I just got that one (my other old-fashioned one broke...).
