Hello VMKForums,
I just had a quick suggestion.
Perhaps there could be a gener box where when you click "Public Profile"
In that area there could be a gender box where you put your gender.
The reason why I think forums needs this is that there seems to be alot of this going around. "I think he's a boy." "No, he's a girl!"
Just my thought.

That is a great idea! :) I feel bad for my friends who are girls and get called guys or vise versa.

I ♥ the idea. I always get called a guy on VMK, it would be nice for the VMKFers to know I am a girl though, like in the games I am called a boy

Now only if a mod would consider this Idea..

It's not a mod who makes these decisions (although we can discuss it). Ultimately it is an admin.
Interesting idea, though. We'll see what happens.

Even though it's a pretty vague piece of info, and you probably couldn't find someone because of it, but doesn't it still classify as personal info? I have nothing against it (I don't care if people know my gender), but I was just wondering.

Spin, sorry for saying mod. After I wrote that I thought "Doy! It's the Admins."
But, thanks for the consideration.
Zebra, It's not personal, I don't think.
Personal is age, and where you live.

But in the IRC, I've seen a few cases where people have asked for genders, and were told that it was personal info. But maybe it's different here? Idk. :pirate:

Good idea, let's make it as easy as we can for the pervs to join up and search for their preferred gender.

The chances of that may be slim, but the benefits of listing age aren't great, and the risk isn't worth it.
In my humble opinion

This site gears toward the younger crowd, which makes it a target for nasty people.

I thought it already showed our ages on here somewhere. Or maybe I was just thinking of birthdays.

O_o Did you just say what I think you did. I thought this was a kid site. Anyway, this is a kid site. I'd rather not have it, even if it is useful. Its to dangerous on forums where there is no dictionary like VMK.

Sometimes you can tell by there signature or avatar... but I'm sick of saying to people "Oh right.... your a boy?" and then they get offended if they are a girl and it's so confusing!!!

GREAT idea,

-rcv-, I don't quite get why knowing someone's gender would lead to what you were saying.
If you will, there's I think 6 billion people on this earth?
And probably 50% male and 50% female. I don't see where the problem would come in.
Even if the person's avatar was looking like a girl, or boy, there could still be what you're saying happening just from that.
And hey, even you were called a girl. That's what I want to stop.

I don't quite get why knowing someone's gender would lead to what you were saying...

The problem is that having it in the database can make it searchable.
Instead of going through users one at a time, it would be possible to get a list of what you want.

I'm not even saying that this would actually be of real, practical use to a predator, what I'm saying is that this is the sort of thing that predators look for.

If you don't want to get hit, try not to look like a target.

I sorta agree with RCV, even though it would be useful. There are too many young age kids here. Also, RCV, your brother EKB is back...

Rcv, wouldn't knowing someone's age, or location be just as bad of having knowing their gender?

Location, I didn't even think you were allowed to put that.

JeannieV

Location has been ok..but only as narrow as state basicly. However, many have used that area of the profile for MANY different interesting answers. Its fun to be creative!

I agree they should have someway that people know what gender you are. I've been called a girl SO many times on here and VMK I seem to be used to it but would be nice for people to know I'm a boy.

Many times we all have mistaken identies on VMK or here. Now...I must ask, is this really a big deal?

After a while, people will learn...and we mostly communicate through written word here. SO, does the information you have to offer to this site differ if it comes from a girl or a boy? Will you be respected more if you are of a "known" gender?

I am (possibly) obviously a Lady, however it does not make what I have to say better or worse if you think I am a guy writing it.

I as of now do not see enough benifits of knowing gender.
