Or some specific symptoms that might help get you better assistance than just "run a virus scan"? ForeverWDW 09-20-2006, 06:16 AM Did you also run an anti-spyware program? Which anti-virus programs are you using? Noelle 09-20-2006, 12:48 PM Go to the website of the anti-virus program that shows the virus and see if they have steps to take to get rid of it. This happened to me once. I kept running the antivirus software and the virus kept showing up. I went to their website, found the virus name. They explained how to start my computer in safe mode, run the antivirus program again and that got rid of it. GeauxTigersGo 09-20-2006, 12:55 PM Do you know for sure that it is a virus that is slowing your computer down? There are other causes for computer lag. PaperClip 09-21-2006, 12:15 AM I reccomend McAfee. WARNING: NEVER USE SYMANTEC/NORTON PRODUCTS! I have had bad experiences and so have my clients with them. How do you know that it is a virus? aengus 09-21-2006, 12:17 AM probably spyware & not a virus. Try running spybot seek and destroy on it SpinMarty 09-21-2006, 12:26 AM probably spyware & not a virus. Try running spybot seek and destroy on it I use spybot myself, good program. Silverstream 09-21-2006, 12:32 AM I reccomend McAfee. WARNING: NEVER USE SYMANTEC/NORTON PRODUCTS! I have had bad experiences and so have my clients with them. How do you know that it is a virus? I just got Norton but my families been using it for a while. It actually got rid of the virus I had because the other one wasn't working. PaperClip 09-21-2006, 09:52 PM I just got Norton but my families been using it for a while. It actually got rid of the virus I had because the other one wasn't working. I have read reviews, talked to other people and they rate McAfee the highest. However, Norton was the lowest. There were 95% of people that said after using Norton to get rid of a virus, they had to re-install windows. connercheerchick 09-21-2006, 09:57 PM well i have this virus and its slowing my computer down. i have tried lots of anti-virus programs and it wouldnt go away. any suggestions??  thanks Just go out to the store and get a virus protectin it is b/c vmk has a lot of people on around the world and so they try to give your computer a viruses Bestwheels 09-21-2006, 10:02 PM awesome i have McAfee but be worned ppl McAfee is that great for spywhere WDWTigger72 09-21-2006, 10:40 PM I have two pieces of software I use: Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition (Note: Its free from work for personal computers!) Computer Associates eTrust Pest Patrol Anti-Spyware The combination of both applications works really well for me, what Symantec does not capture typically eTrust does... Alienboy 09-22-2006, 12:06 AM just run ad-aware, spybot, spyware blaster and if ur a bit experienced use HijackThis(sounds like a bad program but its not, guess they were trying to be sarcastic in the name) and as for Norton had it since it came out with no problems, they just cant get off all the viruses and spyware compared to adaware or deep reg files. unless u tell it to manually and thats probally where ppl mess up their computers Thark 10-05-2006, 03:47 PM All Anti-virus programs have their problems, Norton for the most part just loves to use all of your memory, decreasing computer speed and efficiency. But Norton is a good anti-virus program. Note: On spyware defender isn't enough. Some Anti-spyware don't pick up everything, but 2 usually does. |
