Haydenfan 09-03-2005, 07:29 AM :confused: :( :confused: I need advice.I am going on a diet because i am overweight i cried once because i looked at myself in the mirror! but i keep on eating junk food because my dad keeps buying dots and cheese itz!

From one overweight girl to another, I can tell you that it isn't that easy, which I'm sure you already knew. First off, talk to your dad. Ask him not to bring home junk, and if he needs it to keep it locked in his car. Talk to your mom (or the primary cook in your family) and put together a healthy, yet delicious menu for each week. It won't hurt for the rest of your family to eat good as well. Try to limit your food intake to Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner with one or two snacks in there. However, never go to bed hungry! Trust me, the next morning you will wake up ravenous and eat twice as much as you normally would. Also, I can't stress exercise enough! I joined a gym a few months ago...and yes, I'll admit it, I loathe it. I honestly do. However, it has gotten a bit more tolerable, as long as I have a good book to read during cardio. Also, if you don't mind going to weekly meetings with Middle Aged Women, I would highly recommend Weight Watchers. The meetings are kind of boring, but it is easier to stick to a diet when it is outlined for you. Also, Weight Watchers lets you eat anything you want, but stresses portion control, which is better than those "No carb!" diets. If you are 17 or older, you can join right now, if you are younger you need a note from your doctor. Also, I know how humiliating it can be to confide with your friends, especially if your friends are super thin like mine are, but TELL them about your goals, and your diet. About a year ago I was keeping it secret because I was so embarrassed, and I ended eating tons of JUNK when I was around them, because I didn't want to blow my cover, plus with no one to gently prod me in the right direction, I just couldn't resist. Hmm, I'm sure there is more, but I can't think of it at the moment....OH! One last thing: When you look in the mirror, smile and see the gorgeous girl just waiting to be found :D Anyways, good luck! Haydenfan 09-03-2005, 08:28 AM my mom was on a diet and hse lost alot of pounds.I look at myself and then i look at limited too i try things on and they don't fit and since i am short i can't look at junoirs because i am like still kinda a kid my friends are skinny and i always look at them and say i want to be like that.i want to eat healthy and go on a diet without becoming marykate u know? i feel like i am trapped it is very hard to shop and look at cute clothes then having to go to girls plus.

melizza 10-20-2005, 09:50 AM self-control and vigilance is what you need most right now. be focused on what you want to achieve and exercise control over yourself when it comes to eating junk foods. another important thing is to get your family involved in the whole diet thing, so that they can help you: perhaps your dad can cut down on the purchasing of junk foods, your mom can guide you with the diet since she was in it herself before... it is possible to eat healthy while on a diet (i have been doing this actually) just eat healthy foods in medium to small amounts frequently. stay away from fast foods and junk and soda.

CHEATING: If you really need to cheat then have a small pure thing that gives you great satisfaction. Wheat, milk, cheese, eggs, dough, bread, butter, and chocolate make me have pain, rashes and the wheat can feel at times like a heart attack. I can handle a little dairy so when I cheat I have a hot fudge sundae, a baked potato dripping in butter, chicken cheese enchilada or beans with cheese. Try to sooth your cravings with suckers or small pieces of candy or mints.
ENABLERS: Enablers help people with problems keep having those problems. Part of weight related problems is depression and not feeling good about youself (Low Self Esteem). It is hard when everyone looks good but you. I had a lady who turned out not to be my friend and she would say to her daughter "Your (body part) is too big and that clothes does not look right on you." over and over and over in public. I was born fat, lol and know how I felt not fitting into the popular clothes.
My mother is an enabler. She has lots of junk food but no real food to eat. Enablers clean up after sick drunks and look the other way when someone is stealing, cheating, or doing something wrong.
WILL POWER: I would love to have one taste of a cream pie, cake frosting, or just one bite of pizza. I would get very sick if wheat got into my system. At church dinners I work with the dishes of food and sometimes catch my finger headed to my mouth. Everyday those of with food allergies, religious diets, and you take certain medicine MUST never ever eat certain food or drink certain stuff. I cannot have certain medicines either.
You have to say NO. You must remember what you want and what you need. It is easy once you get into the habit of saying NO. Tell your family and friends that you will not be eating garbage anymore. Stick to it even it is makes them upset.
DIET: You need to get away from processed food. Ask mom for help and learn to cook your own healthy food if they will not. Never make exceptions and temptation must be stopped fast as the longer you think about it the easier it is. Find ways to excercise. Do not do drastic low calorie diets.
Take the average number of pounds per year you are gaining times 10. That is how many calories a day you are not excercising enough or eating too much. If you hve gained 50 pound in 10 years then that is 5 pounds a year which means you need to stop eating 50 calories a day to stop gaining weight. The extra weight burns extra calories so that throws the figure off a bit and the amount will be a little more than what you came up with.
Watch your emotions as when I am sad I have to get sick on chocolate. That is when you are weakest.

LittleBubbles 10-20-2005, 11:13 PM I have given myself a new healthier diet, along with help from my Mom :) I try not to eat too much junk food a day, and replace it with healthier things, like fruits and veggies. I've realized I have consumed so much unhealthy things from eating sorts of chips, cookies, etc. If we all eat a banana as a dessert instead of doughnoughts (sp?), we won't get round in some areas we wouldn't exactly want to be round in. We do not want to look like the people in Raven's vision in the Food Court episode of That's So Raven ;)
Good luck with your diet, and remember, starving yourself is NEVER the solution! DON'T EVER LET THAT HAPPEN TO YOU! A no food diet is worse then being overweight in my opinion.

all i can say is i can name alot of jokes about me that she made up fast she stoped kinda and now she keeps on reminding me that i am fat.
melizza 10-21-2005, 12:42 AM your friend is making fun of you??...i know there is the thing as turning your ears off insults but if its from a friend that's hard.. maybe its time you have a serious talk with that friend of yours. but honestly in my opinion i won't call someone who makes fun of me a friend. maybe you should try to find true friends.
