It was originally a book by F. Scott Fitzgerald(right?), and adapted in 1974(?) in a movie.

And it was never a show, but four films have been made about it.

The main plot involves a mysterious rich man (in the 1920's) who throws parties most weekends, and all the other evenings during the week stands on the shore of the lake and looks at the lights shining from Daisy Buchanan's house.
