I'm just looking for a little clarification on this. When/how do New Posts become purged? Is it after or at a certain amount of time or does it depend on how many new posts there are?
Sometimes I'm responding to a thread and noticed another interesting one I wanted to check out, but hitting New Posts after the reply I have to visit the related forum to find the thread instead.

Hi there :)
It depends on the forum it's in.
I'm assuming you mean moving things to the archive.
"I'm new here!" threads are usually moved once no one has replied to it in a week. Same goes with Trading Post threads.
I will say that the archiving of a thread is based on the last time someone posted to it, not its original post date. :)
If you have a specific one you're thinking of (section of the forums) let me know and I'll tell you how long I usually leave the posts there.
If there's something you thought was still relevant and you want to reply to but find it's archived, pm me the link and I'll see about moving it back. :)
I just re-read your post and I think I might be talking about the wrong thing. Let me know if I am .:)

Yes, actually I was thinking more like what Alice has mentioned. I guess maybe a better way of wording it would be, how long do they remain new messages viewable while clicking on New Posts? The ironic thing is, about 10 minutes after posting this thread last night, I noticed it was no longer showing under New Posts.
Shorts you also bring up a good point. I thought it was a couple weeks without a post then a thread is moved to the archive?

Well, archive-wise, it depends on the forum. :)
But with regards to the other one, I'm really not sure to be honest. I do know one option is to click into a particular forum and the bolded titles are the ones that have new posts since you last logged in (in Alice's case where she liked it for the "what I haven't read" factor).
Maybe another mod can help us out. :) Or Nick. :) Or -rcv-. :)

I use to work with a slightly different forum software and in that, it was just based on your login. if you were to log out and back in its no longer new and its not in that list. Also if your not doing anything on the forums, and you dont realize it, but IT will log you out. You might have saved your login information so you click something and your right back in and you dont realize you logged out and back in.
One thing you can always do is go to search and goto find posts from and change it to yesterday. Then you will see the posts for the past 24 hours. and most likely you will see what you were looking for. Of course if you havent been on in longer than that you can change yesterday to a longer time frame.

Session Timeout is the time in that a user must remain inactive before any unread posts are marked read. It is currently set at 20 minutes, and I haven't changed it recently.
