I was wondering, can VMKF ban your IP adress like VMK? Because if someone gets banned here, cant they just make a new account? It was something that just popped up, so i decided to post it. Thanks for all your answers.

I won't go into detail, but suffice it to say, there are several methods of banning...

and finding out if a person is trying to evade a ban. :)

IP banning is not the first resort, nor is it our last resort when dealing with problems.

Ban evaders usually get caught when the admins do the approvals of new users. A human being look over every new account, then the new account goes through a probationary period where most posts go through moderation approval. It takes time, but it saves the regular users from ever seeing a lot of potential problems.

And, if you're found evading a ban, that can increase your ban length. I wouldn't suggest it. :)

We don't operate like VMK-we don't turn the other way when you make a new account. Someone has to eyeball every single one including IP and ISP.

That's what sets us apart from other sites who don't require a mod to approve every user. We allow ONE account per person and enforce it.

Curious thought on a related subject regarding IP addresses, I hope it doesn't seem too off topic here and if so I can create a thread on it.

Is there anyway to anonymize your IP addy while using the Client Live Chat on VMKF? The issue I'm seeing is, anyone can join GameSurge without being a member here and look up client IP information via IRC by joining the channel. Now, the net is fairly safe these days regarding flood attacks and such with current security measures, but there are still the possibilities. Usually when I'm in the channel I use a proxy through IRC, but I wouldn't even bother if my IP was hidden in the JClient on here.
