Ok im just wondering what vmks position is on dictionary dancing. I heard people getting banned for it, but then i see the Host's using it! I haven't seen anyone getting banned for doing it, but i've heard about it alot. Will i get banned for doing it?

For all you who don't know dictionary dancing is getting around the censor by using other words as the word that is censored (if that makes since lol)

Example: 1= on 2= too 3=tree 4=for etc.

I do it a lot, as do many people. But I don't do it for anything that could be against the rules, like stating a phone number or anything. I pretty much just use it for time, credits, ect.

Lots of people do it, I only think a ban would happen is if you did it for the wrong reasons

Heya! I try not to dance too much, but only because vmk would like the CL's to set an example for the newer players. :) That being said, there are times you have no choice but to dictionary dance. Just be careful it's not for the wrong reasons. Also, if you want your room considered for a Best Guest, Quest or Game room award, don't use any dictionary dancing in the room's title or description.

in the past, VMk has sent out SEVERAL blanket warnings to stop dictionary dancing.

I avoid it at ALL costs.

I usually talk around the word. For example, if i'm trying to say my husband, I say "the dude who lives with me" or something like that instead of house band like so many people do.

I've seen users banned for saying numbers like on too free for hive and so on.

I won't say I've NEVER done it, because I have, and much more in the past than now. I'd say maybe ONE word at most per time I'm on VMK is all I'll say that's a dictionary dance.

There's a reason some words are blocked on VMK. They don't want you saying them. :P

I don't know why yesterday isn't in there. or afternoon.

but, the other two words can be used in a non-G way. Let's not get into it here, but realize there are multiple meanings for words.

I understand their thought process in blocking numbers, but it just makes it really hard to say what u want lol.

I would assume VMK wants to make time as vague as possible, to make it harder to try and meet somewhere in real life in the "afternoon" or "tonight". Kind of ridiculous, but this must be their logic. As far as "coming" being banned, that's just lazy and pathetic. Of course there is a double meaning, but isn't there also one for "come" which is still in the dictionary? I'm sorry, but "coming" is a very normal and necessary word and to punish the masses instead of the offenders is ludicrous. When will VMK realize that certain people will always find a way to dictionary dance, they will always find a way to imply inappropriate things; the staff needs to be more vigilent and ban those people, not take it out on the people who are attempting to have a legitimate conversation. When it comes to dictionary dancing, I think they're only tempting more people to do it because of the severe restrictions on our vocabulary, and many of these restrictions are undeserved or completely uneccessary. Can anyone in their right mind please tell me why we can't say "cartoon" on a DISNEY game? Didn't it all start with a cartoon mouse? Why does VMK have to wait until they need a certain word to complete a quest, or until 5 thousand people have suggested it? Why can't the author just go through Webster's every week and add a new page of harmless words to our approved list?

And now if you'll excuse me, my mind has exploded.

I try not to surpass the filters, but sometimes it's necessary. I've only had one "bad case" where I used "on, too, tree" when I was helping somebody out on a Quest and said about six numbers. Other than that, I don't think I can recall the last time when I surpassed the filters. I can still get my point across while following VMK's rules and values :).

I only dictionary dance for numbers when I need to, like 'ive star fireworks' or 'on moment, please'. I have said 'alright.i' instead of 'alrighty' (a word I got from my mom; it means alright but with a y).

Yeah, "one" is one addition we really need. I understand they don't want us to use numbers, but the staff obviously knows that everyone (including themselves) has to dance around that at times, for games and whatnot. With that said, I would be fine with them keeping the others numbers blocked.. but just give us "one"! It's one of the most commonly used words out there and it's silly not to be able to use it.

Okay, well then why can you say today? :)

I agree. I think it's ridiculous that they don't just punish the offenders.

I, of course, dictionary dance. I don't do it for bad reasons! (Example: I have I chair, would you like it?) I've seen people who've been dictionary dancing for the wrong reasons, and haven't even been banned! So, I just report them. I've once seen a boy curse at ME, because my lives were done in the Pirates game, and it was on the same place as his. He was like <removed> and <removed> and luckily I reported him. I don't want these kind of people on VMK..it's just very rude.

Well, I suppose because "today" is a broader definition of time, since "today" could actually include "tonight" as well, whereas terms like "afternoon" are slightly more specific and therefore more likely to be used in an illegal rendezvous-planning session and furthermore, Meredith Vieira who has worked on the ABC network as the replacement host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, which is also an attraction featured in both Disney's MGM Studios and Disney's California Adventure, recently made a move to the Today Show and they wanted to be able to wish her the best of luck on her new endeavors without some ### cropping up.

Yeah it's not easy to disect VMK logic.
