Chapter One: THE START
Mick was a boy when he told his Mother that he wanted to be a sled dog racer. When he was nineteen he got a team of huskies. He thought about what one would be the lead dog. He thought he would put the shortest one as lead dog and that was Shorty. Shorty was a nice female dog. she looked like a white dog with a huge gray spot on her. She was barking with the other dogs one day. When Mick was twenty he singed up for the Iditarod race.
Chapter Two: GETTING READY AND A WORD WITH FATHER
Mick was shopping for dog food when he saw Bruce another racer. Bruce told Mick a lot about the race. Mick said " Thank you Bruce" and continued shopping. Mick was getting a new harness for every dog. He got a new sled too. Mick thought about how happy he would be if he won grand prize: $1,000,000.000. How happy I would be! Thought Mick. Just then his Father came in. "Mick" said his Father "When I was your age I went dogsledding for fun... and I hope you have fun too." Mick said back "Thanks Dad I can't wait to see the racers!" "And I can't wait to see that little dog of yours lead the team!" "She has a name, Dad and it is Shorty." "So you gave the dog the name "Shorty"?" "Yes Dad I did." " Well that really does suit her."
Chapter Three: THE BIG DAY
Shorty was barking like crazy... Mick woke up thinking "What day is it?" then he was like "Race day!" Mick packed the car and the dogs got in. Mick got in and drove to the starting line. Mick harnessed up the dogs. He said "Shorty show them how to do it!" Soon the anownser was saying " On your marks... Get Set Go!!" the guns blasted and they where off! On their way to the finish line in a few days someone would be the winner.
Chapter Four: DAY 1
Mick was warm in his big coat. Shorty was running fast. The team followed her to the first checkpiont. Mick singed in so they knew he was there so that they know everyone made it safly to the finish line. Shorty looked back at him quick with her one green and one blue eyes. Shorty barked.The team barked back. Shorty took the team to the second checkpoint.
Chapter Five: DAY 2
Mick yelled "Hike!" and the dogs ran as fast as they could. They where in third place!! Shorty barked. The team barked then the moved into second place! The race was hard and the dogs ran. Finally Mick saw the team in first place! "Mush" he yelled to the dogs. They passed the team in first. Mick looked at the musher of that team. It was Bruce. Soon the sky darkend. Mick and the team stopped they where at the checkpoint. Mick singed in ( so they know that everyone made it safely).

ABOUT THE STORY:
The Iditarod Race is a long race in Alaska that I read about and thought I would make a story about it. This race is very long. Many teams race every year when the race starts. This race might take 13 DAYS.
