PaperClip 08-29-2006, 03:52 PM You might want to start looking around to see if your computer can hold/handle Windows Vista. I have included a list of specifications that you should look at to make sure yours is ready for it.

mickeymouse2818 08-29-2006, 03:56 PM any idea when this windows vista will be coming out? i already know my laptop is capable of handling it and i do want to upgrade it whenever it comes out.
PaperClip 08-29-2006, 03:59 PM It is estimated to come out in early 2007. But, it was also estimated to come out in June of 2006, too. So it might get delayed even more.
mickeymouse2818 08-29-2006, 04:01 PM i will wait for it then. it seems like a really good upgrating system. hopefully i will be able to get a student discount. lol like if they would do that with new systems

BTW, Are you a beta tester? If you were a beta tester, you could already have Windows Vista.

no im not a beta tester. when i bought my laptop, it says that it is windows vista capable. and i think i would rather have the full non-bugged version of vista than a full-bug version. not saying that the new version wont have its fair share of bugs

It isn't all "full" of bugs. That is kind of what beta testers are for. They get a pre-released copy of it for free, they install it and try to find bugs and everything in that. Then if you report the bugs, they will get taken out, (Sooner or later), and you will get credit for it. jeremyv and I are both beta testers. I have Windows Vista, and am testing it, for Microsoft.
GBShorts 08-30-2006, 02:54 AM My brother is USING Vista at work, not testing, using. So far he really likes it and has found few bugs in it. He writes programs for a logistics company and they set him up with Vista to start the programming using that interface.
When he went to a training seminar at Microsoft in Texas (for some reason not in Renton, go figure), they mentioned it would be out end of 2006, early 2007, so there's a double confirmation to your release date.
Hmm...
Vista.
Has a nice ring to it. :)
But I'm still not going to get it the second it comes out. :P
F0REVERL0ST 08-30-2006, 02:59 AM Yes, my Sony VAIO is Windows Vista Capable. :D
vmkstar99 08-30-2006, 11:28 AM Mine isn't :(
A modern processor (at least 800MHz): What the heck is that?!
512 MB of system memory. (RAM) Nope, i'm only 256 MB :(
A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable. ?? I think i heard of that, but i don't know what it is.

Modern processor = AMD or Intel Procesor, at least with an 800MHz clocking spped.
RAM: If you want Windows Vista, you can just go buy a 256 MB chip and put it in your computer.
You can read more about DrectX, on Microsoft's website.
Qui-gon 09-10-2006, 05:32 PM Most new computers that will be coming out will have Vista already installed. I might be getting a new one so it'll already have it. But if I don't, I'll just stick with XP. I don't want to spend $150 on it unless I get a new computer.
Also, DirectX 10 is coming. ;)

It is not going to be just $150. Think of it as about 3 times that much. Either way, you might not want to rush out and buy Windows Vista. Just in case something happens to it, like a recall. Remember what happened to some Dell laptops?
Qui-gon 09-11-2006, 09:50 PM I know, I meant $150 at the least. ;)

falloutswimmr 09-11-2006, 09:53 PM what is the program for and why would you want it?!!
Bestwheels 09-11-2006, 09:54 PM i am a certified tester or should i say jounier tester so i can make sure u can play very nice games on it
WDSnav 09-11-2006, 10:22 PM I am a tester and I have tried it, to tell you the truth I am not that impressed. Ok its pretty and I like the gui but it is mostly the same as xp. Same task manager, same basic concept, nothing I would find revolutionary. Im not gonna waste any money on it.
PaperClip 09-12-2006, 09:15 PM Just to let everyone know, there is now a new version of Windows Vista out. It is the RC1, which means Release Canadate 1. Right now it is only available to people that subscribe to MSDN. Here it is in exact quote; The final major pre-release of Windows Vista—Release Candidate 1 (RC1)—is now available for priority access by Customer Preview Program (CPP) participants only. If you registered for this program in June, please look for a recent e-mail message from Microsoft (sent in early September) with information regarding RC1. If you are not registered but would like to receive Windows Vista RC1, the CPP will open to new participants in the coming weeks. Please check this site periodically for updates.
Customer participation and feedback are integral parts of our development process. Thank you for deciding to install and test RC1 and for being a critical part of the Windows Vista team!
You can check it out on the Windows Vista site. www.microsoft.com/windowsvista

It might be $150 when it is as old as Windows XP.
