I will not be posting my xanga, as its not important, but Me and Krazychik went to the Hurricane Evacuee Shelter in our City and I just wanted to share our experience.

Well Inspiration usually calls to poets to write Poetry, in my case, my inspiration to share my experience was going to the Evacuee Shelter at the Rec. Center in Nacogdoches. It didn't hit me until we were leaving and we passed a Little League Football game, with the kids sharing there joy with others for there love of football, and the parents non chalantely chatting about last evenings supper, and then the reality snucked in... while we enjoy what we were given, 130 Victims of Hurricane Katrina seek shelter at a place that we in Nacogdoches have taken for granted. While its a place to enjoy basketball and other daily sports, for these Victims its a sanctuary, a place to call home for awhile, and most importantly its that little ounce of faith, that helps these people make it. Wal mart is a good place to go for cheap items, but I also encourage the Dollar Store, by Wall mart, it had coloring books, crayons pencils, while these things may not be a necessity, it eases life for these people, and gives them a little smile on there face. No I am not the most Patriotic person, and no i don't agree with some of the President's decisions, but this is not about Policatical Differences, this is about helping HUMANS in need, and there's nothing political about that.

"History does nothing; it does not possess immense riches, it does not fight battles. It is men(humans), real, living, who do all this"~Karl Marx

I would be very interested in knowing anyone else who has or plans to help.

Once again, its important as you can see as my Xanga, is now open again... its a rare moment, one to cherish and have faith.

Peace and Love.
Matt

Mr.Lunatix's post brought to mind this poem which I thought was appropiate especially the next to last line:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

~Emma Lazarus

something to ponder.

I remember when I first heard that poem when going on my Statue of Liberty School trip. Very appropriate poem.

I had an eye opener like that, excpet it was in Mexico, which in a sense Mexico is a bit worse than the shelters here in America, and I didn't go to a shelter.

But, people who have disasters like this have to go on with their lives, and from what you described it looks like they are starting to.

I know when the hurriciane hit FL Last year and a few couties.. including Polk lost power and alot of things including chunks to the school... I encouraged my mom to donate money... Maybe I can try to scrape up a few extra bits of cash this year to donate.. remember every little bit helps... especually since many of them lost everything esp New orleans people with the floods destroying things.. leaving them memories.
