I have a question to anyone who can answer it. Is it ok to say your real name in your UP or anywhere else on the forums? Because sometimes I see people who say their real name in their UP.

I'm pretty sure you can't. But I know you may not say it in posts (like this). Because guests can see this.

Yes, I agree that it would be ok to post your FIRST name on your UP, but not your last too. I would ask a mod just in case :)

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I see my friends with their first name and I'm all, "Wait! I thought we couldnt say our names?!" So yeah, I'm confused.

I don't think you can, it is almost the same. Except, the guests can't see your UP.

Well, it's definitely not okay to list your First and Last name.

As for just your first name...that's a hard one. There's several users who have their first name or a nickname as all or part of their VMK and VMKForums names.

Therefore, that's like telling someone they can't use their username. :)

Seriously though, if it's just for a little info thing like "Name, Likes, Dislikes," etc, one of those, it would be fine to me..but use a nickname especially. And I would take out some of those options like "Location, Age," yadda yadda.

I have seen people post their real name on their userpage/VMK title/etc. Just make sure if you do not put your last name, phone number, where you live at, age, birthday, what school you go to, etc. Those are very bad to give and those are the info those bad guys are out there are looking for.

Last name, no way. You trace a person with bits of information, and the last name is too good a bit to have posted.

I would discourage the use of one's first name, since it usually is a pretty good indication of a person's gender.

I'm not going to get all bent outta shape over it, though.

hmm, I would probably think that first name can be bad, especially if your like me and use the same screenname all over the place, and no my name is not marty. But what I don't get is what's the big deal about not saying your age, I mean can a stalker in a hockey mask find you just by knowing your age?

Giving out your age makes you a target.
Some pervs will look for people of a certain age, and if they know it then they will work harder to get more info.

My real name seriously is not Tracy. I tried to find a name that I could think of that's really far from my real name. And try to guess the gender of that name. Hard to tell, isn't it?

For example, on bad websites where people post all of their personal information, for example, the site that all of us know about and I'm not mentioning it again, there are 500 year old pervs looking for children. And I can be pretty sure to say that at least 1 perv tried looking here before. And to think about it, there could be pervs all over VMK!! Ugh, that thought makes me shudder.

You can't put your age on the fourms but you can put it in your profile? What the? I already PMed another mod about it... and they said they were going to try and fix the problem....

People who don't have an account can't see your profile. And it IS your choice to put it or not.

Because we control who can see profiles.
