View Full Version : Which Hotel is the best?
CrAzyEm 08-17-2006, 07:31 PM ok so me and my family are going on a trip to disney world for two weeks(since we have relitives there and want to go to BB and downtown disney and such) anyways we're going around mid april and my parents are letting me and my sisters and brother choice which hotel to stay at. in the past we're only stayed at pop century. in my family there are two teenagers and two twin pre-teens so we really want something that is good for out whole family. here are the hotels we can choise from
Port Orleans Riverside
Pop Century
All star Resort
The Boardwalk
Wilderness Lodge
currently i like Wilderness Lodge look wicked cool from pictures and so does my brother but my twin sisters want to stay at pop or all star becasue of all the big stuff lol
which one was the best for you and was are some pros and cons about each of these resorts?
Neoteny 08-17-2006, 07:40 PM The Pop Century and All-Star Resorts are a lot of fun because of all the big stuff. Also, they're the least expensive options. The rooms aren't much to speak of, just standard motel rooms, but if you're going to Walt Disney World, it's probably not to spend a lot of time in your rooms.
The Wilderness Lodge is probably the nicest of those you mentioned (and it contains the great Whispering Canyon Cafe, which you should try for dinner some night even if you're not staying at that resort), although it's a bit inconvenient for transportation.
You didn't mention the Polynesian, which is my favorite, as its centrally located, right near the transportation hub, so it's easy to get to anywhere from there and back. Also, it has 'Ohana, one of the best restaurants at Walt Disney World. There's also a great pool.
Take a look at the resort maps and bus lines. Those could be important in making your decision.
Remember, no matter where you stay, you can always visit the other resorts to see the theme decorations and sample the restaurants.
We always stay at the value resorts (Pop Century and All-Star) to save money, and then we go elsewhere to eat and explore.
For restaurants, call ahead for reservations! This time of year you shouldn't need more than a few days' notice, but it doesn't hurt to be early!
mickeymouse2818 08-17-2006, 07:43 PM i would have to say the boardwalk or the wilderness lodge. also i personally love the swan and dolphin hotels. they offer the same services as any of the other disney owned hotel and you can really find some great deals on room. also it is located right in between the epcot and mgm parks, its great!
(and they just did a renovation of both hotels so now they are as beautiful as ever)
KrazyBella 08-17-2006, 08:02 PM Well in the past, when i danced at WDW our entire group stayed at the All Star (Music one) hotel, and there was a lot of fun. It has pools shaped of different things, and they all correspond with which part of the hotel you stay at. Now we were all about the same age as you mentioned, and they picked that hotel.. so i guess its a good one for kids.. We never had a problem when we were there with it. Also, the actual designs on the hotel and the land is cool looking, lol, They have big statues of disney things, etc..and you can even buy a cup in the cafeteria, and get free drinks every time you use it. :D
The Wilderness Lodge.. i don't really know anything about that one..
Port Orleans Riverside hotel is nice.. but i don't think its exactly for kids, there isn't much to do.
Pop century.. you said you stayed there in the past, so im sure you know all about that one.
The Boardwalk.. ive never been too, but ill be honest and tell you that its one of the most expensive disney hotels.. and since your family is big, i would think it would be outrageous pricing.
Other times I went to disney, we stayed at the Caribbean Beach resort, twice. Thats a great hotel.. and its not far from the parks either, especially if you have a car to get you back and forth. The hotel is split up by differnet "islands" and there are all buildings, so its not just one big hotel. Then there is a cafeteria.. lots to eat, lol and there is a pool at every "island" and there is also the beach, but you wouldn't want to swim in that water, its more for the boats. Then there are little fun things like fake tatoos, hair braiding, a main big pool, the thing with the buy a cup and get free drinks.. and also the maids make little animals out of the towels, LOL they made me a special ballerina bunny with stickers and ribbon too.. haha and i still have it :D
So.. out of your list, and for your family, i would say the All Star, but if you can pick other hotels, check out the Caribbean Beach.
Hope I helped!
~Bella :D
MickeyForMayor 08-17-2006, 10:09 PM Port Orleans Riverside- it's relaxing and outdoorsy but there were ants when i stayed but the staff was quick and other than that it was a good stay
Pop Centery and All Star Resort- altho i haven't stayed there it looks like it is very family oriented
The Boardwalk- i've stayed at the boardwalk and it was very nice. it has a very relaxed atmossphere and is set in the 1920s sea side mansion. altho there isn't like a cafe where you can get your breakfast, lunch, dinner there is only the bakery and the cafe down in the yaht club (across the water). it is alittle more pricey then the others but it is worth it
Willderness Lodge- i haven't stayed there but it has a ralxed and outdoorsy theme. the one thing i have heard about is the buses being late and such.
Hope You Enjoy Your Stay!

gigarichard 08-17-2006, 10:23 PM Wilderness Lodge all the way! I've stayed at all those resorts and the Wilderness Lodge is is the best!
Oranges 08-17-2006, 11:15 PM Please refer to my WDW Guide (http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32412) for assistance on which resort to stay at. Scroll down to "Resort Guide" for a complete list of resorts, their amenities, their prices ranges and their benefits. :)

goofy_bout_mickey 08-18-2006, 02:03 AM I have stayed at all of them except the Boardwalk. I think that they are all really cool in their own ways! It all depends what you are going to be doing while you are at Walt Disney World. If you are going to be at the parks for most of the day, then the Pop Century/All Stars would be a better choice. They are the cheapest but still packed full of cool stuff to do (I personally love the arcades and pools myself! ). I stay there and use the money I saved to go to nicer places to eat at the parks (ie a nice sit down dinner at the Living Seas Restaurant) and to maybe get the really cool souviener (sp) that I wouldn't buy otherwise.
I have stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and the pool there was really cool! I also liked being just a boat ride from the Magic Kingdom! It is more expensive though.
The same with the Riverside. Really cool pool with an Aligator Jazz Band. There is a guy in the piano bar, I cant remember his name, but he is GREAT! He gets the audience involved in the singing and dancing and some of the songs he plays are just hilarious! Kids are allowed in this area and enjoy it just as much as the adults.
Another idea that I do with my friends alot is we stay at the All Stars for most of our trip and then will try a higher priced resort for a couple of nights. This works great and is relatively easy to do. We have done this with the Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kindom Lodge (another AWSOME resort as long as you get a savanah view.)
There is book out there called Birnbaums Official Guide to Walt Disney World that is worth every penny. It tells about all of the resorts and anything that you would want to know.
Hope this is helpful and not too long but I love WDW and love to talk about it and help ppl.
Have a great time (two weeks! Lucky!).:thahggeek27fz:
F0REVERL0ST 08-18-2006, 02:23 AM I would say the Boardwalk, because it is in the heart of Disney. :)
WafflePrincess 08-18-2006, 02:25 AM I ♥ The Wilderness Lodge. Whenever i stay at Disney i always stay there :D
goofy_bout_mickey 08-18-2006, 02:49 AM I think I can speak for everyone.
It really doesn't matter as long as it is at Disney!
:wave2:
ForeverGoofy 08-18-2006, 02:54 AM The Wilderness Lodge is a great hotel and has something for both young (a great pool and the whispering wind cafe) and old (general layout, architecture, etc...). Port Orleans Riverside and The Boardwalk are more appealing to adults (not a whole lot for kids there), while Pop Century is great for the entire family.
Just my 2 cents...

An excellent point!
Remember, you can use Dinsey's free transportation system to get to anywhere in Walt Disney World from anywhere in Walt Disney World, so you can go visit all the other hotels and restaurants at your leisure.
Just be sure to make reservations at the restaurants!
Tibby 08-18-2006, 03:09 AM I would prefer either boardwalk or wilderness lodge because at the boardwalk you can go out if your board and just.. walk or go to epcot which is like close, we walked there last time. and i like wilderness lodge bc i just like it! lol  :)
KrazyBella 08-18-2006, 03:09 AM Oh and don't forget.. if you stay at a "Disney hotel" and you rented a car, and drive to the parks.. show your room key at the park and get free parking! They don't even have signs up that show this.. LOL but someone at the hotel gave us that special little info.. ;)
PrincessWall 08-18-2006, 03:17 AM Uh, anyone who didn't say Bordwalk is nuts. Its the most expensive out of those and the nicest. Then it would be Wilderness lodge. We're going to Pop Century this October, hopefully it'll be a good experience :)
I did not like Caribean Beach, the service was bad when we were there, the pool stunk, and it wasn't disney-like at all. At least we transferred to Animal Kingdom Lodge after that :)

true but the second week we're there for about 2 days were going to hang out near the hotel and my parents want to go to pleasure island so we'll be at the hotel til like 10 alone.
ty all for posting so far it looks like either wilderness or pop. i was looking online and the rooms in wilderness look wicked cool and so does the pool. and even if we don't go to wilderness, my parents said we can eat dinner there one night. (YES)
someone said they were staying at pop in october i forget who but when your there, make sure you get the pop cups, then you cna get free drinks and when you go to magic kingdom, if your taking the bus get there early casue that line takes forever getting to the park and leaving there.
Xucid 08-23-2006, 02:29 AM i really enjoy the All Star Resorts and Pop Century. sure they may not be the fanciest of all the hotels, but i really have a lot of fun at them. the free refill mugs is a great addition. its nice to get back from the park and refill your mug before you go to bed.
Port Orleans Riverside is quite a nice hotel. I had a very good stay there and the staff was very friendly and helpful. My parents will be staying at the French Quarters before their cruise and already like it to begin with.
toontoony 08-29-2006, 01:40 PM it is so fun and cool! you can disine cookies that look like animals!
SurfingGirl 08-30-2006, 09:44 PM Wilderness Lodge, you may ask why and here is why:
No resort in Disney or Orlando beats that atrium lobby, sorry
The by far friendliest Cast in Disney, the pin station at the Lodge is the most well maintained in all of the resorts, and the concierge are great!
The rooms are brandly new renovated with plasma tv's and detailing!
Fire Rock Geyser: enough said!
Boat to the Magic Kingdom, express before 3 PM
Amazing detailing
