View Full Version : Need Help On WDW Moderate Resorts
disneyrocks 08-14-2006, 07:10 AM I'm Wondering Which of the Following Moderate Resorts is the Best:
*Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort
*Disney's Port Orleans Resort Riverside
*Disney's Port Orleans Resort French Quarter
I need help deciding which to choose. This is my first time staying on WDW property so i have some questions to ask:
1. Which Resort is closest to Magic Kingdom?
2. Which Resort has the best theming?
Also, if you stayed in any of these resorts, i would like personal preferences on your experience in the resort.
Thanks

FantasyKeith 08-14-2006, 07:56 AM Have to pretty much agree with Mickey's assessment.
I have stayed at Riverside. It is pretty nice, though some of the rooms can be a walk to the buses. If you stay there, ask for a room near the main building. Preferably on the 'Bayou side' and not the Mansion side.
I think all three that you are looking at require bus rides to all the parks. But the buses run frequent enough that you should not have any problems.
When we were choosing between the Moderates that you mentioned, we actually looked at the brochures.. and Riverside seemed to be the most shaded. ie: Had the most trees. Odd reason to choose it, but it did.
We did walk through the French Quarter hotel/resort, and it has a slight look of New Orleans.
And as Mickey said... which ever you choose, have fun on your trip.
AceLollipop 08-14-2006, 11:34 AM I have stayed at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney's Port Orleans Resort French Quarter. Caribbean's theme is a tropical beach setting. I liked it because we always like to go to the beach, and it reminds you of that. The themeing is perfect in both resorts. The french quarter does not just have a slight look of New Orleans, they got the look right perfectly. I can't pick a bettter theme, but I would say I liked the food better at Port Orleans.
firedragon216 08-14-2006, 11:35 AM Mickey is nice, however I have stayed at all three several times and have to say riverside is my favorite out of those hands down! :)
good luck and have fun

DizCaptain 08-14-2006, 12:47 PM Hmm I remember tehre being ants in our beds at Port Orleans French Quarters lol. Caribbean Beach is ratehr nice with the walks and such. Basically it comes down to are you a parker or a relaxer?
Alienboy 08-14-2006, 01:02 PM I stay at river side allllllllll the time. Its the best that it. French I feel is a bit tacky compared to riverside so I wouldnt go there. And CB is cool but idk it just never really grabbed me. Riverside is the best becuase of its location, fun(its the only place in disney that has bob jackson), food better, awsome ppl there, the hotel building are cool, its like big mansions...awsome place go there
MamaJo 08-14-2006, 01:51 PM I have stayed in all three and from that I prefer Riverside. I stayed there when it first opened and was called Dixie Landings. French Quarter was called Port Orleans and is right beside each other. They have an awesome slide in their pool. Riverside is more of a quiet, plantation like setting from the deep South. Caribbean Beach is more like you would find if you went to one of the Islands in the Caribbean. They have a beach setting and you can rent one of those little Water Mouse. Those are fun to drive. Any of the Moderate resorts is fine. They are equally close to Magic Kingdom and have bus service going there. Don't forget the other Moderate priced resort--Coronado Springs. That's a beautiful resort but I don't like the food court. That is located close to Blizzard Beach. Well, whichever you chose you will not be disappointed. Have fun
disneyrocks 08-14-2006, 06:19 PM Thx everyone, ive go lots of info on the resorts now. I have 1 other question:
Okay, you said that the bus takes you to the parks, does anyone know which resort gets picked up first?
gigarichard 08-14-2006, 06:26 PM I'd pick the French Quarter. Everything is very close no long wlking to the bus stop of food court. The pool is very nice, big. Food is excellent. It's very small and cozy and quiet. Nice thing is it's very small and everything is close by. But I've stayed at all of those resorts and whichever you pick you'll have a fantastic time. For the busses with Riverside and French Quarter french Quarter gets picked up first. Caribbean Beach is a seperate resort and has seperate bus stops

yes i forgot to mention that try to get a room closer tp the main building because it can be a long walk just to refill your cup ;)

yeah i had ants in my riverside room (right next to the sink) but the staff was quick and got all them and it was a great stay even with that!

Middiebear 08-14-2006, 08:05 PM I know this hotel/resort wasn't featured as one of the choices..., But I strongly suggest you consider:
Disney's Coronado Springs resort
It's classified as a Walt Disney World moderate hotel and it is located near Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park...
That is a ways away from Magic Kingdom park, but I find that just as long as you're in the Walt Disney World resort property..., it doesn't really matter where you stay...
The hotel has many Southwestern-New Mexican influences and features one of the nicest and biggest hotel pools I've seen on Walt Disney World property...
The pool is themed like an Ancient-Mayan ruin... A huge Mexican-style pyramid dominates the landscape and features a pretty cool water-slide...
What made this hotel different from the others to me was the landscaping itself... They have a beautiful lake (Great for the WaterMouse boats) that reflects the Southwestern architecture during both day and night...
The hotel also features many hammocks in different locations around the property... Which I found great to lay down/relax and look at the Floridian night-time sky...
This hotel is quite similar in amenities to Disney's Caribbean Beach resort, but I just find Disney's Coronado Springs resort to be much better for reasons I can't really explain...
AdioSkater 08-14-2006, 08:23 PM Having stayed at all of those resorts, you can't go wrong where ever you go. Personally, I liked Port Orleans. There is no huge difference between the French Quarter and Riverside. Whenever I go to disney, I go so I can go to the parks. The only time I am actually in my room is when I am sleeping. I would really go for the Port Orleans Resort

i agree but the food court they have...well the food is not that great but i agree with all you said lol
disneyrocks 08-15-2006, 08:04 AM We'll i would choose Colorado, but its not one of the choices i can choose from. You see im taking a 4 day land, 3 day sea Disney Cruise and they only gave me those 3 choices.
FloridaRocks 10-26-2006, 11:37 AM iv'e been the disney tons of times my favorite is Port Orleand French Quarter i like it bc i love Mardi Gra it is awesome the have a serpant slide and boat accesss to Downtown Disney there Sassagoula Floatworks rock!!!!!!

I agree, that meal card idea is strange.
I have been to all of the moderate resorts and all of them had good pools. Coronado Springs has a really cool mayan temple themed pool. The waterslide is cool, lots of rushing water. The slide at Riverside is good too, but you have to walk up wooden steps to get to it. I don't remember the steps at Coronado Springs.
FloridaRocks 10-28-2006, 10:58 AM i like port orleans french quarter but of u saty at cornado u need to try the peper market its delicious
gone_batty 10-29-2006, 12:00 AM My husband and I really enjoyed the romantic and quiet atmosphere of POFQ. It seems to appeal to couples rather than families. We never got around to taking the boat to Downtown Disney, which we regret.

The boat's the best part of POFQ (especially when you have to use DD as a late-nite "bus depot" after the parks close or you want to hit Downtown at night)--
Also the smaller All-Stars size, the cobblestone-street layout, the walking access to Riverside, and...do they still play cool jazz on the POFQ background music, or Dixie?

Sounded more like Dixieland-style to me, but I am far from an expert. I just remember that it sounded like what I thought New Orleans should sound like, though I've never been there myself. :)
DerekJ 10-30-2006, 07:02 PM Darn...First time I ever went, it was the same Cool Jazz as used to play at All-Star Music's Jazz building (ah, relaxing in the FQ pool to Dave Brubeck), but when I went back sounded like they'd merged it with Riverside's Dixie soundtrack.
