 Just thought I'd share this with you. On the 11pm news I just heard that Disney World ticket prices would be going up on Sunday. It will now cost $67 :blink8: for a day of fun at Disney. Ouch. Anyone know if parking prices will go up too? Bet that will be $10 for a spot.

Glad I have annual passes.....

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!:(

I've been in FL for about 13 years now. I think it was around $30 a day when I first moved down here. (And they let teachers into EPCOT for free-that went away a number of years ago..Sea World still lets us in free)...

However, a bigwig friend of mine told us a few years back that the price of admission paid for the daily running of the parks--rides, staff, parades etc and they didn't make a dime on admission. She also told us they make a killing with souviners and food...

wow i have lived here all my life, don't remember it all but we have an old pass that we never used it was a four day pass where you could go anywhere you wanted and it was $134 this was before animal kingdom though. i am so sad that my season pass will expire before the summer blackout dates are over.

Yikes.

It's like a domino effect. The price increasement of the base ticket will cause the Park Hopper, Water Park Fun and More, and the Non-Expiration options to go up in price too.

However, the price raise still won't keep people from going...

Eh .. even if they do raise prices ppl will still come :) , They also might have had to increase the price because of there increase in bills or something like that..

Increasing bills? That's probably true but, as the saying sort of goes:

If you raise it, they will (still) come.

The mouse has to make as much profit as they can!

Wow.. My mom has an old photo album, and in it are Disnyworld pics. There is also this large two-day ticket. On it it says " 2 days, cost 18.00. How much can disney go up, it was not that long ago..

The $67 is for regular, adult admission (I think kids over age 8 pay that price too). The only FL resident discounts that I know of are on multiple day passes--and those special ones are only offered at certain slow times of the year--not this time of the year

Thats pretty cool adventure.

When my parents joined the vacation club in 1994 they had a special deal where you would get two adult tickets for free EVERY time you went up until 1999. SO all they had to pay for was our membership, airlines, and me. We still go back even with everyone paying adult prices now (and adult is 10 years old and older) Honestly 10 doesn't seem very adult to me.

These raised prices could actually be a blessing in disguise. Back when Walt Disney World has those cheap $20 tickets, all of the rowdy teenagers came in. The parks were packed and shoplifting and vandalism increased. With the prices raises, certain groups like the rowdy teenagers won't be coming back as often, and people who are ususally willing to pay such a high price are well-behaved. And since only well-behaved people are there, less shoplifting and vandalism, which creates a clean and nicer park. So if you think about it, if tickets get cheaper, your experience inside the park would not be as fun.

People will always come no matter what the price may be. Some may have to shorten their stay due to the price increase. (now that ticket prices are up, I'm sure lodging will increase, food prices may go even higher~ugh!) As my husband always says about the "House of the Mouse", you will have as much fun as your wallet can afford. And we truly love to come down, but we are on the every other year plan. Have a good day and remember,

Keep Smiling!~Just thinking about the good old days. Oh, how I wish ...

Here's a hint for everyone. If you are going to go more than once in a year and on multiple days, BUY A ANNUAL PASS!! Last trip we were on for 4 days, it cost us a hundred dollars less to buy the annual pass than the MYW ticket. So instead of 4 days, we get 365 days.

I went for xmas 04 and it was $8 to park, now it's $9...but that covers parking in all the parking lots for 1 day, so if you're like me with a park hopper ticket it's good...

But that's like a $5 increase right? And is that before they throw on the tax? It was about $62 or $63 on the signs when I was in MGM on Monday...

Looking at it, the prices are a bit steep...and it comes out to nearly double the price of a ticket at my nearest "big" theme park, and about 4 times as much as my nearest "average" theme park.

Think I may end up putting off my plans to go back in two years and stay at a Disney resort hotel with my friends, and just go to Disneyland Paris instead. Same rides almost, just means I can't go to the Epcot rides, or Splash Mountain...but Paris is nearer and has a more "extreme" version of BTM. It goes about 10 miles faster and really swings you out in the back....

In two years, do you think the prices will have gone up much? Cause so far, paying loads is off-putting cause I have a lotta things planned for what I wanna do in 2 years time...all of which costs a lot of moolah.

PrincessAnnO
08-05-2006, 06:04 PM
my guess is that it will probably be about $14 - $16 more to get in 2 years from now...per day. That doesn't include food prices or parking or rental cars or airline tickets etc....

with the way gas prices are rising, who knows how much more expensive it will be in two years...

generally in the past 5 years or so I have seen the theme park prices in the area raise about $4 every six months...

Here it is, hot of the press, just released today:

from The Orlando Sentinel:

Starting today, the cost of a one-day ticket to any of Walt Disney World's four parks is going up to $67 - a 6.3 percent increase, the largest since 1991.

The hike is the second time in eight months the resort has bumped the cost of admission and represents an increase of almost 12 percent since December and 22 percent since early 2004.

Disney officials did not say what is prompting the $4 increase -- which also affects the company's Magic Your Way flexible ticket plans -- except to say the new price is in line with the needs of the travel industry.

The latest decision surprised a few industry observers and rattled some tourists Friday, but all said it would not deter people from visiting the parks.

Addison Williams, 68, of Atlanta said the prices were getting out of hand, especially for a family. The retiree, on vacation with nine family members and friends, said he was thankful he wasn't paying for everyone.

"I know it's a family theme park, but a family has to practically take out a loan to come here," Williams said as he paused during a shopping trip to International Drive.

Historically, Disney World and Orlando's two other theme-park resorts, Universal Orlando and SeaWorld Orlando, raised prices within weeks of one another and stayed relatively close. Universal went to $63 in January and SeaWorld to $61.95 in December.

There was no indication whether either expects to raise prices soon. SeaWorld spokeswoman Becca Bides said that park's prices are based on SeaWorld business, not on Disney's decision.

Disney last raised its basic ticket to $63 on Jan. 1, up from $59.75. The last time Disney increased prices by more than 6 percent was 1991, when basic admission went from $31 to $33.

"We believe we offer a great value and remain competitive in the market," Disney spokeswoman Jacquee Polak said.

Does price matter?

The new price shouldn't be much of a deterrent because Walt Disney World and Orlando, in general, are increasingly "must" vacations for many people at almost any price, said Ady Milman, a theme-park business professor at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management at the University of Central Florida.

Many tourists agreed.

"It's something you have to do," said Isabel Geurts, 46, of Glasgow, Scotland, who included Disney on her family's vacation to Orlando's attractions. "You want to go to Magic Kingdom just to say you've been."

But Disney's ticket prices are going up while gas prices are skyrocketing. That bothered retired sales manager Bob Standers, 68, of Lake Worth who visited Disney with his wife. "It's too expensive," he said.

Though some theme parks including Universal have struggled lately with attendance, Disney's crowd has been growing, up 5 percent last year and 3 percent in the first quarter of this year.

And the company will kick off a big, new promotional campaign called Year of a Million Dreams in October.

Last year, Disney joined other theme parks in moving away from selling most of its tickets one at a time. Under Magic Your Way, people can buy packages that discount the price of the tickets for multiple-day purchases.

The new increases cover most but not all of Disney's ticket prices. Magic Your Way tickets will see prices go up at all levels, about 3 percent to 6 percent. Disney's Park Hopper feature, which allows people to attend any of its parks, goes up $5 to $45. Yet water-park tickets remain the same, as do Florida resident three-day theme-park tickets.

In the next year or so, Disney is adding several smaller attractions, such as a new ride at Epcot called The Seas with Nemo & Friends and a new comedy show at Magic Kingdom called "The Laugh Floor Comedy Club," plus numerous events and shows tied to Year of a Million Dreams. But there are no announced plans for any major new attractions such as Expedition Everest, which opened in April.

"We would still come," said Melanie Hughes, 45, a teaching assistant from Coventry, England, in town with her family of four. "It doesn't make any difference, not when you're coming from England."

Safety becomes theme

What tourists want today is a safe, reliable vacation, and so more are turning to Disney regardless of the price, Milman said.

His research finds a trend showing travelers opting for places where they can be assured a consistent, quality experience, such as theme parks, over more authentic but less predictable experiences, such as vacations to European cities.

Milman also said the law of supply and demand applies.

"I think Disney is going to increase the price until people stop coming," he said.

Jerry Aldrich, president of Amusement Industry Consulting in Orlando, said Disney does careful analysis and knows what its customers are willing to pay.

"They really look at their surveys. Most places want to make sure they're in the ballpark for the value received versus the cost," Aldrich said. "There's a lot of planning and research before it's done."

He also said all of Orlando's theme parks are among the best anywhere, and none wants to be perceived as a lower-price, "discount" theme park, noting, "It'll be interesting to see what the other two do."

Well I guess when you're the world's number 1 vacation destination; you can charge whatever you like...

67$ is a bit much... Especially for Florida residents that may want to visit Walt Disney World for just one day...

But most of Walt Disney World's visitors are tourists who spend 7+ days in "Disney's World," so the price increase shouldn't matter that much...

Like the article above said...

Walt Disney World is a special one-of-a-kind place that people visit just so they can say they've been there...

It's that one special variable that many other places don't have that makes the "cost" some-what irrelevant...

Well I guess, reading ALL of that, if you see what WDW has planned for the next year or so, you'd be willing to pay the extra money.

Disney is splashing out on 3 new attractions, and a whole new theme for the next year, so I guess things have to go up. Notice that the times the prices have gone up are when Disney has large changes planned in the parks.

1991, it went up 6%...and in 1992 Splash Mountain opened its doors. January 1st, just before Expedition Everest was due to open to the public...

Think of raised ticket prices as Disney's way of making a safety net for themselves. They splash out on new things they think will work, but while they wait they have attractions gone, attractions that COULD have been "family favourites"...so if they are losing business (or think they could lose business) a price hike is there to say "Just incase we do mess up with these rides, at least we can still pay for them to be here a few months..."

I guess I could be WAAAY off track with all that, but think about it. There's going to be practically a new attraction in every park [if the Midway Mania rumour is true].

It's around $55-60 to get into Disneyland Paris, and that only has TWO parks to choose from, and is undergoing major Pixarisation...I mean is getting new attractions put in.

It's around $50 to get into Tokyo Disneyland, but as far as I know, they aren't getting new rides there, and their turnover of crowds is pretty big.

And Disneyland, as most of you may know is $70 for a park hopper, and $50 for a single park ticket...or so their site claims.

People WILL pay over the odds to get into a Disney park, because their favourite memories are there, they "have to" do it, or there's a new attraction.

I honestly can't blame Disney for putting prices way up...I mean, if they can make a load of money out of the parks, maybe they can clean up some of the "mistakes of the Eisner years", that everyone goes on about, in all departments...

And thanks Oranges for that. It was rather...enlightening.

I live in one of the states almost all the way north. and my family(me. my parents, my two little sisters, and my older brother) all DRIVE down to flordia. We couldn't go this past year because gas prices were too high for us. Not to mention we have to stop in like every state for like 10 minutes for my 5 year old sister to use the bathroom! and then we spend the night in NC, since it takes us about 23/24 hours to get to the disneyresort we are staying at. Now the prices for disney went up too so my family might not be able to go next april :(

another quetion: Do you think hotel prices will go up too? I usually stay at pop century or the boardwalk. so and increase in pop century wont kill my family but the board walk isn't a value hotel.

I dont think the hotel prices are going up yet because we booked a trip already and the travel agents know some how when prices jump or go down and what not and they said that WDW hotels will be fine...some hotels that come with fridge standard now will probally cost 10 bucks more a night compared to when you rented it was like 20 or so and im not sure how the internet works in the hotel now. Last I was there(last year) they were just installing it and you got it for free since they were still testing and problems could happen but Im not sure if you have to pay now or what. If someone else knows please share or ill just have to find out when I go down there in a couple of weeks.

Like I said, but you don't need a castmember to tell you all this stuff. As lousy as the internet may be towards Disney rumours, 90% of them do turn out right...

WDW is getting a load of Pixar rides, but I've yet to read/hear of a new land though. Magic Kingdom has room by the bucketload for a new land. Go on a Grand Circle Tour next time you visit, and you'll see so much land owned by WDC that can be used to expand the park outwards...it's just all swamp and the occasional audio animatronic, and bits of backstage there.
