using the Home keys is the easiest way. Any other way would be confusing...

I learned home-row but I've adapted my own typing style. I average 78wpm with no mistakes, 62wpm when its letter number sequences, like VMK codes :)

Instead of learning to type, I kinda taught myself. My computer teacher always screamed at me, though ;). I can type about 65 words per minute on the randomness such as, 1cfsd15gfd6 1dsg561 gdsgsdgt. Im aiming for 70, soon. With real words maybe 75-80

I started out with home row when I was in school, but it has changed the more I type. So now it is probably only based on home row with my own preferences mixed in.

The only problem I have with that is when I am on certain keyboards that have that new ergonomic style, where it is separated in the middle and slightly bent. I think that keyboard was designed for people who use the home key method only. Ah well, c'est la vie.

wpm average is about 70 -80 using regular keyboard
wpm average is about 60 -70 using different keyboard

I just start wherever the first letter I have to type is then go to the next with only one finger on the keyboard at a time. I started with the home row keys but I never used them and because I just kept forgetting what was where and by trying to find out where my fingers were supposed to be at different times, it slowed me down

At my old school they FORCED us to use home row... since Ive changed schools Ive changed my typing to a "hen peck" type thing but using all my fingers. I used to type like 45WPM, now that I have my own method I can type about 75-80WPM.

I type my own style. Two handed all over the keyboard. I don't make too many mistakes that way. Yay me. Home row is too confusing for me! XD

By "home row", do you mean lining up your hands so your fingers are over "asdf" and "jkl;"? If so, I wasn't aware that there was any other way for someone to type besides the finger by finger typing 3 year olds do. Trust me, people will laugh at you if they see you typing like a small kid. I have been to our university's computer lab and everyone uses the standard way to type. If you think it is "hard" to do it, then just keep trying and it will become natural for you. Trust me, it will definately pay off.

I can't imagine using it .

My typing is 70-90 and 85-95 at it's best, I applaud you on how you can use the home row keys *starts a slow clap*

My definition of home row is strictly home row style only. That means that the left pinkie should reach up to press the number 1 key with the rest of your fingers staying on sdf and jkl;.

I do not do that, but the majority of how I type is based upon the home row keys, my fingers are on asdf and jkl;. I do not, however, use every single one of the rules for typing, because I find it easier to do it a different way. I think it just depends on the people and personal preference.

I say stick with whatever works best for you. If you don't have to type a lot and using hunt and peck is fine with you then ok. But if you are like me and have to type papers and things for school and work then it is usually, though not always, easier to find a typing method that is probably or has been at some point based on the home row typing method.

By the way, is there an actual name for this, like a proper name other than home row method?

i type with my thumb and 3 middle fingers (both left and right hand). my compture teacher would mark me down points for it. I type faster and no mistakes like this. i type slow and more mistake using the home row keys. Plus it hurts my wrist.

I sort of use the home keys, but i mostly just divide the keyboard in half. One half for left, one for right (obviously). I mostly just remember where the keys are.

I just...type lol. If using the Home Row Keys means typing with the proper fingers on each of the keys, then that's what I use.
