View Full Version : So what's the deal with Peter Pan's Flight?

Always, ALWAYS, the queue for Peter Pan's Flight is hours long, and yet right next to and across from that ride are Snow White's Scary Adventures, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, and Pinocchio's Daring Journey, none of which have more than a five-minute wait ever.

What's up with that?

In my opinion, the Snow White and Mr. Toad rides are much better than Peter Pan's Flight, anyway. But then I like the scary stuff.

It's the London scene, hands down. People love that part.

And it goes so fast, they need to ride again to take it all in. Seriously, the rest of the ride is just blah for me compared to that.

Peter Pan is a very popular movie, and for some reason the ride is generally popular. It might be because the little "ships" can only hold 2 people, though Mr. Toad, Pinocchio, and Snow White can hold 4-6 if I remember correctly. Peter Pan is a sweet ride, but it seriously needs some updating. I've seen Mall Robots that are better than those mannequins...

Peter Pan's flight is exactly like Disneyland in Disney World. The fastpasses are always for like 2 hours later, and the line wraps around many times. The problem is the ride vehicle only seats about 2-3 people which causes delays. It's so popular because you get to "fly" over London.

Neoteny

At least Walt Disney World's Peter Pan's Flight has FastPasses. At Disneyland we just have to wait. Or do something sensible, like skip the ride and go on Snow White, Pinocchio, and Toad instead.

Rides' lines are actually generally shorter without Fastpass...

Yeah, If you go earlier, or get there when it opens there would only be like 5 min. waits or nothing! People like the peter pan ride so much because there's alot of adventure, pirates and indians for boys plus the mermaids ansd stuff for girls so its pretty much all laid out for everyone

Peter Pan's Flight (at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World) has always had long lines. Always. I don't understand why you stop moving for such long periods of time because the boarding procedure is continuous. Oh well; I find it silly to wait 80+ minutes in line for a one-minute thirty second ride, lol. :D

But "The Wind in the Willows", on which the Mr. Toad ride was based, is probably the most underrated Disney movie around. Tremendously hilarious, and that goes for the ride, too.

Wasn't it based on The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, or is that what WDW's used to be based on?

Disney's movie, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, is based on the books, The Wind in The Willows and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Peter Pan is a monorail type attraction.... it can't hold a lot of vehicles.. but has that history and negalsta people love.... flying in a pirate ship over London... seeing mermaids.. It’s a great attraction... and being limited on ships to fly, there will be a long line. But that’s why they also developed the omni mover years later for some attractions… as they are people eaters, but Peter Pan is to nice to change.

Well i agree.. Peter Pan (in WDW anyways..) can only hold confortablely two to three people, which makes the rides line longer, unlike the other rides which have a few rows in each car. Also, i think the fastpasses are what also makes it longer cause then you have people cuting you in line just when it looks like its your turn. I have never used a fastpass, and never waited over 30 minutes for a ride that only lasts about two minutes, like someone esle said, lol. Although, the last time i was there, last summer, we got there when the park opened and did all of fantasyland with no lines at all! LOL it was beautiful :D

when i went to disneyland a couple years ago with my friends, after having seen the lines the day before, the first thing we did when we got there as the parked opened was rush to peter pan, and even with the park having only been officially open for about 2 minutes, the line was about 45 minutes. we figured it was because of the early admittance into fantasyland, but that was still ridiculous. and you cant expect anything less than an 1 1/2 hour wait during the day. when i went to disneyworld a month ago we waited in line for about an hour and 15 minutes. the lines are just too long. i say just go on mr. toads instead.

Oathkeeper
07-26-2006, 02:12 AM
Okay, well, I remember reading that the reason Peter Pan's line is so long is because they can only circulate six-nine (I don't remember exactly) of the boats at a time. So that, plus the boats only being able to fit two people at a time AND how popular the ride is, it takes about a half hour or so for all the boats to go through the ride once (let's say most familes take up two boats.. so that's a lot.)

I'm not positive though. I read this in a CM who worked on the ride's live journal ages ago, and when I went back to check the entry again, it wasn't there.

figmentisback
07-26-2006, 02:21 AM
I forgot something... Disneyland Paris's Petarpan was redesigned i hear.. it has 2 rows per boat rather than the one... This they doubled the amount.... I wonder is this possable on the current monorail tracks at WDW and DL? WDW would then be able to remove FP and cut the wait 25%... while DL will have half the wait removed... (Though my math might be off..)

It is said that the ride is so old it constantly breaks down and that makes the lines so long. if you can find something more annoying then your little cousin acting like nuts in a 2 hour wait for the peter pan ride get back to me.

i didn't ride it when i went to DLR but at WDW, it broke down two times while me and my sisters and brother were in line and one time while we were on the ride it stopped right over hook lol. anyways if i remember correctly, it WDW, peter pan is near philler magic(which is totally amazing) and it's a small world. last time i went to WDW it's a small world had a long wait too and that doesn't have fastpass. i think it's just because its tradition for people to ride the classics no matter how old i get i will have to ride dumbo and petter pan and it's a small world.

P.S. i really don't like snow white idk why. the first time i went on was with my brother and sister. and my sister was 7 and got scared. my brother was 12 and found it boring and i was 10 and thought it wasn't entertaining. i haven't been on since. and I LOVE WINNIE THE POOH. i liked mr. toad more but it's not half bad my sister was 4 when we first went on it and she loved it and so did i

Guidebooks to DL like the Birnbaum books usually gush over how great the Peter Pan ride is, and how it's right up there with Pirates as a "not to be missed" attraction. That's part of the problem.

It actually is a nice little ride but it is NOT NOT NOT worth more than a 10 minute wait.

I'm bummed that I couldn't ride it on my last two visits to DL because that awful queue was so long, and it was so hot out... I just couldn't do it.

This is one of my all time favorites, but if I can't get a fastpass, I will skip it.
The line at WDW is horrible! With all the technology out there, it could use a bit of a facelift though. But DONT change the London portion!

Snow White is so boring, and out of date, and I am not a fan of Winnie the Pooh!

I love all the old Fantasyland dark rides, especially Peter Pan (and MisterToad, of course ). I guess it's the nostalgia thing.

I am one of the ones who tends to get mad when Disney takes out a really great (albeit cheesy and rather hokey) old ride and replaces it with something new. For instance, when Winnie-the-Pooh came in and kicked out his cousins, the country bears, I was hopping mad.

I doubt Disney will ever get rid of Peter Pan, thanks to those long lines you're all talking about. I don't see how they could put fast pass in, the queue area is so tight and there isn't much room to expand it, that I can see. When Disneyland was built, they really didn't expect it to last much longer than 5 years, so a lot of the older sections display a distinct lack of long term planning. (Hence the lack of room to expand in Fantasyland). Also, they surely weren't envisioning days when the park might have 80,000+ people in it, most of whom are wanting to fly over London.

All I know is that if the Tiki Room ever comes "under new management", I will come pretty close to tears.

Here, Here! I'm feel exactly the same way. I couldn't believe when I heard that Country Bears got the boot over Pooh :thf471fd564zf:
And I was equally excited when I learned that DL's Tiki Room had not been ruined yet. I ph3ar the change. Add new rides if you want, but leave the old classics alone. :)

I just thought of the perfect example!
Epcot lost Journey into the Imagination. That was an amazing ride.
What happened to it when it (finally) "came back"? The garbage that is now Imagination Institute, that has nothing to do with imagination. It's all about the senes, so that Disney can "wow" us with their ability to spray skunk smell in our faces.

I agree peterpan is a short ride but I like how they made everything small to make it seem like your high up. Peter Pan's ride is not long. I went to Disneyland last month, and me and all of my friends went to wait in line..It looks like it is an hour long, but it isn't. It goes really fast.

here's what i've heard

Peter pan's flight is actually one of the LEAST popular attractions at the disneyland park. The line is long because of constant Break downs. My sister went on it once She waited 2 HOURS for the ride for to Break downs. My brother then rode it and told me it was not worth the wait. the people were more like statues. Since then we have been wondering why there (as far as i know) have been no rerubs on the ride

Yeah, Maybe because it has the London/Neverland scenes in it that makes people like it.

Peter pan's flight is actually one of the LEAST popular attractions at the disneyland park.

I would disagree. Now, it doesn't get as many people going through it as others, because it's not high capacity. It's probably higher capacity than Dumbo, though! (Not much could be lower capacity than that ride!) But it has a really strong following. Especially of parents and little kids.

The line is long because of constant Break downs. My sister went on it once She waited 2 HOURS for the ride for to Break downs.

That could happen. But I've been on it a bunch of times and never saw a break down. So it's just anecdotal evidence. I'm sure it breaks down sometimes, but I doubt it's that constant.

My brother then rode it and told me it was not worth the wait. the people were more like statues. Since then we have been wondering why there (as far as i know) have been no rerubs on the ride

It's a matter of taste. It's a very old ride, and it doesn't have audio animatronics. It's not about thrills, adventure, or stunning effects -- it's just a charming little ride in which a lot of people get a kick out of flying over London.

My friend, I have never waited less than 5 minutes for Mr Toads, unless it is closing time at the park. That line is not quite as long as Peeper Pan, but it is about 20 minutes on average, especially during the peak season.

As far as why Peter Pan line is so long, when polled, the majority of human beings, if given one wish, would desire to fly. That full fills their reason for being here.

That could also explain the popularity of Dumbo and Astro Orbiter, which always seem to have at least 60-minute waits.

(Oh, and the majority of human beings are apparently not thinking straight. If I were given one wish, it would be for more wishes.)

My husband and I were in WDW last week. We went straight to Peter Pan as soon as we entered the Magic Kingdom, about an hour after the park had opened. We were intending to grab fast passes for later, but were very much surprised to find that the line was less than 5 minutes long. This was on a Saturday! (About an hour or so later that line had filled up, as well as others in the park. Apparently not that many guests try to be there as soon as it opens.)

Sure wish Disneyland's Peter Pan had a fastpass, as I have rarely ever seen that line to be less than 30 minutes long, any time, on any day of the week.

I am always amazed at how long the lines are for both Dumbo and Astro Orbiters. They're within seeing distance of each other (at DL at least), and yet they're both extremely busy. The thing is, they're basically the same ride! You'd think with two 'spinny up and down' rides like that, the lines wouldn't be as bad.

Go to all the Fantasyland early right when the park opens. Ride Pan first and then Matterhorn and then Dumbo. You can do all the others in whatver order you want because they don't get too bad of a line for a while. And if it's a early entry to Fantasyland day then if you don't have a early entry pass then just wait to do Pan and Dumbo until a different day that isn't early entry. I know what rides to ride really good so we don't wait too much for any rides. And I know a lot of tricks for FastPass. ;)

It seems to me that all of the rides in Fantasyland have a long wait,Mr.Toads Wild Ride etc..I guess some adults might like those rides for their younger children who cannot ride other rides.

those rides are fun but fantasyland comes first than probably tomorrowland followed by adventureland and frontierland
