View Full Version : New Ride at MGM!
AwesomeCute 07-23-2006, 11:21 PM As many of you may know, Who whats to be a Millionaire is being closed down. Here is some info I found a new ride to replace it it's supposed to be called Midway Mania, It looks like a lot of fun! It sounds like the ride is going to take a long time to make, but will be awesome. Who wants to be a Millionaire? Play It! closes on August 19th, Here's the info!
The last few months have seen a lot of speculation regarding a new attraction, called Midway Mania, to be placed in the studio's soundstages. The huge soundstage buildings, including the Who Wants to be a Millionaire attraction, are speculated to become home to a new interactive dark ride, featuring a computer generated 3D environment, and moving vehicles, allowing riders to shoot at the environment. In short, the project is being pitched as a Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin - "The next generation".
Storylines for the attraction have been previously talked about as focused around Mickey's Milestones, but more recently, this has swung towards being based around Pixar characters, and in particular, the Toy Story characters. Each show scene would be hosted by a particular character from the Toy Story movies, complete with their own mission brief for the scene.
The time frame being talked about is to have the attraction up and running within the next 4 years.
Remember, at this time, this is speculation, and as always plans are subject to change.
This information was found at www.wdwmagic.com
Does anybody else have more info on what is going to replace it? If you do i'd love to hear it! Sorry if this has been posted, I looked but didn't see anything.

Neoteny 07-25-2006, 09:52 AM That's a shame; I really enjoyed the Millionaire game. But I suppose its time has passed. I hope the new attraction is good. Disney-MGM Studios hasn't been doing much for me lately. It's my least favorite park at Walt Disney World, with only the Tower of Terror, Rock 'n' Rollercoaster, and Fantasmic! bringing me in. Fortunately for me, those three attractions are all right next to one another, so that makes for a quick visit to Disney-MGM before I move on to one of the better parks. :)

Same goes to me but Lights, Motors, Action is wayyyyyyy on the other side so thats about the only "major walking" I do when i go there
ACEROLLER 07-25-2006, 01:48 PM This rumor has been around forever it has not been confirmed yet. I really hope they do not make this ride. If they do i will be upset that ride has no deal going into MGM like that. They already have buzz lightyear, I would rather them leave Millionaire alone and take out the Indiana Jones Stunt show and put in an Indiana Jones ride.

well the point of mgm studios is the shows and if u dont like it oh well ! Some ppl happen to like watching all the shows. I like all those thrill rides too but i like watching the shows just as much as my friend would. You cant base MGM on its thrill rides cause u have to have something for the litttle kids o_o. !! And it sounds like a cool ride coming to MGM :D

Well sadly it is no longer a rumor. My sister saw a closing sign at millionarre one day when she went. Also, it is confirmed by several I have talked to that it is closing to be replaced by this new attraction to be based like the buzz lightyear space ranger spin from what I hear only it is toy story themed. But I too wish for millionarre to be lkeft alone
Neoteny 07-25-2006, 01:53 PM ...like the buzz lightyear space ranger spin from what I hear only it is toy story themed...
Uh, isn't the Buzz Lightyear ride Toy Story-themed?

They do have stuff for little kids Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Muppet Vision, Playhouse Disney, and many others. I say they should keep Millionaire.
Adventurebry 07-25-2006, 01:54 PM Another pixar ride =(? No. I think I will have to start calling WDW Pixar World from now on. Really, I do like the millionair game in MGM, but when you said that the ride will be about Mickey milestones, I could not wait to go to ride it when it opens! But then I read on, and I just got more angry, and not interested anymore..

So far the things i looked at it has not been confirmed i know Millionaire is closing but the concept of Pixar for the ride has not been 100% confirmed.
Just to tell everyone this has also been given the green light for Disney's California Adventure.
Oranges 07-25-2006, 01:57 PM Aw, I loved Millionaire. I thought it was one of the better shows at MGM. Everything about it was fun - the corny antics of the host and the audience participation. It will be a real shame when it leaves...

cavowonder 07-25-2006, 02:08 PM Uh, isn't the Buzz Lightyear ride Toy Story-themed?
Actually, the ride is themed after a Saturday morning cartoon themed around Buzz Lightyear and his adventures at Star Command. The t.v. show has little connection to Toy Story, other than the fact Buzz Lightyear stars as main characters in both. Also, Patrick Warburton voices the cartoon Buzz, while Tim Allen voices the Toy Story Buzz.

greenhpper 07-25-2006, 02:22 PM Personally, I'm pulling for the ride to be good. I agree with others who have already posted that outside of Tower corner there really isn't much left to do at MGM. The shows are great and all but how many times can you watch a show? A ride has some other elements to it rather than just seeing and hearing. I mean really, how times do you watch the same TV show or movie in a year let alone a day? As passholders, we typically only visit MGM twice a year unless we bring guests with us. But I can ride Thunder Mountain till the cows come home. :D

But they can always change the show like LMA that has been changed many times already.
PrincessKairi12 07-25-2006, 02:28 PM I loved Millionaire :sadd2:! I guess there has to be changes every now and then, maybe this new ride won't be such a bad idea...

i never said i didnt like it, i really do considering im going to be going into the movie industry, i was just commenting on Neotny's post about favorite ride/shows at the part
tudorangel 07-25-2006, 02:43 PM I wonder what the new ride will be like....I really liked the Millionaire game.
Elysabeth 07-25-2006, 02:55 PM Millionaire was one of the reasons my family has gone to Florida for vacation, though we live near Disneyland. They took it out of DCA and we MISS IT!!! We used to go after work to play and all of us got to 125,000 at least, with 2 of us getting to 250,000. I love the pins, hats, shirts, etc., but really wanted to try to get the jacket and trip!
It was great on a hot day. Fun, interactive, got your brain moving while your feet rested. BRING IT BACK!!!!
darthmatt 07-25-2006, 03:19 PM That's a shame; I really enjoyed the Millionaire game. But I suppose its time has passed. I hope the new attraction is good. You dont watch all the shows :a? My favorite part of MGM is the shows. Sure the Tower Of Terror and Rock'n'Rollecoaster are fun, but why not watch the shows?! Especially lights, motor, action!
Back on subjuct:
Millionaire was my favorite show there, followed by indiana jones and and Lights, Motor, Action. If there was any show to be taken out and replaces it would have to be Indiana Jones and replaced by a Indiana Jones ride, as ACEROLLER sugested. I can't believe there taking out a more-popular show, replacing it with a ride. Yes, I and a few other suggested taking away Indiana Jones show and replacing with a ride. Yes, Its a popular show, but replacing it with a same-themed ride wouldn't be as bad. KEEP MILLIONAIRE!
Neoteny 07-25-2006, 09:39 PM The difference is simple: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire was a very popular tv series a few years ago. Indiana Jones will be popular forever. Disney's just trying to stay current.
TripleM 07-25-2006, 09:48 PM I am gonna start to do something non-g rated GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR WHY DID TJHEY HAVE TO CLOSE MILLIONARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!: mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:: mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:: mad::mad::mad:
CrAzyEm 07-27-2006, 01:30 PM MGM studios is my favorite park. im all about seeing how stuff is made and things so i go on all the tours and stuff. and i like the places to eat such as sci-fi dine in and the 50's dinner. to be honest my least favorite park would prob. be animal kingdom. idk why i only like about half the things there but it's still fun.
Anywyas back on topic :) isn't the new ride just going to be like the buzz one? you know what would be really cool? if they did like a monsters inc. one. im not going to DLR anytime soon so im not going to be able to see the mike and sully to the rescue attraction soon. WDW has like nothing mosters inc. i don't even beleave they have the charitors mike and sully walking around the park. they should bring something more original. they already have a toy story ride...

Yet again for the 3rd time today, I agree with you :)

The best new "dark ride" in a long time.
...except for the fact that Disney was too lazy to make the robotics move their mouths.
Adventurebry pretty much summed it up for me. At first it looked like a REALLY cool ride with mickey milestones, but with Toy Story, I don't care anymore. TOO MUCH PIXAR!!! I don't care what you say about Disney owning it now, Disney bought a third-party company to save themselves.
Walt... :(

Neoteny 07-27-2006, 04:13 PM ...except for the fact that Disney was too lazy to make the robotics move their mouths. Ok, that is a good point. But the ride is still loads of fun, especially the door room.
Brer_Nick 07-27-2006, 04:16 PM Hmm, it sounds like it's going to be alot better than Hershy Park's Reeses extreme cup challenge. You get bonus points for shooting kids. it's messed up.
Neoteny 07-27-2006, 04:19 PM Hmm, it sounds like it's going to be alot better than Hershy Park's Reeses extreme cup challenge. You get bonus points for shooting kids. it's messed up.Seriously? That's just not right.
Brer_Nick 07-27-2006, 04:20 PM Hmm interesting. a new room a new movie. FINALLY my dream come true a ride, well at least possibly part of a ride, based on Nightmare Before Christmas! I'm happy. oh and Neoteny that is what you do. you have to shoot tarets and you get bonus points for shooting the hosts kids. look it up if you don't believe me
AwesomeCute 07-31-2006, 10:42 PM I forgot I started this thread lol, none of this have been confirmed yet though. It's sad to see Millionaire go, it was the main reason I went to MGM. I hope this new ride will be really good to make up for Millionaire. Although I don't see the point in another ride like Buzz Lightyear when they already have one at Magic Kingdom. Does anybody have new info on any of this?
Adventurebry 07-31-2006, 10:48 PM ...except for the fact that Disney was too lazy to make the robotics move their mouths.

Is walt the only person who can save disney from this evil pixarization? I mailed Roy Disney a letter about this, not like he can do anything, but I just wanted to share how I feel..
Jimothy 07-31-2006, 10:55 PM This is odd..
If they wanted an updated version of Buzz's Space Ranger Spin, why not put it where the present one stands?
WafflePrincess 07-31-2006, 11:00 PM This is odd..

Cause Disney doesnt think that far ahead. LOL I really like Who Wants To Be A Millionare! :( I ♥ Toy Story but i mean come on. This is Walt Disney World. Not Pixar Palooza
Adventurebry 07-31-2006, 11:10 PM This is Walt Disney World. Not Pixar Palooza
Hey! Great name. I thought it was called PW (Pixar world) but this is even better. Lets e-mail Disney on this name change. " Mommy, I want to go to Pixar Palooza!" Or " Let's go to PP! They have "Adventure through an ant hill Based on a bugs life" and Jorney inside Mariln!" Sounds fun, does it not?
lemonysnicket3 07-31-2006, 11:41 PM you know what would be really cool, a tron ride.
That movie is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome
the graphics maybe dated from new movies. but the plot is awesome the action is incredible and it shows the world in side a computer. fighting viruses, Hostlie programs, how the CPU fights you in arcade, computer, and video games, and how security programs protects the system from trojan horses.
wouldn't that be cool!!!!!!!
Silverstream 07-31-2006, 11:55 PM what?????noooooooooooooooooooooooo, i love that game!!!!!!! it'll be sad when it goes :(

I would rather have a tron ride than toy story :) Tron is a great movie, disney could do a lot of stuff with tron! No pixar either lol
lane junky05 08-01-2006, 12:21 AM the midway mania ride (from what i hear) will be on paradise pier in California adventure near the roller coaster...the ride is going to be a cross between buzz lightyear and roger rabbit. when on the ride you would take a flashlight device that acts as a x-ray vision thing... and when u shine it on the wall or w/e u see through it and be given a 3d effect....but from what i know its not just toy story its all of pixar..and something about a arcade theme A method and system of selectively projecting images is disclosed. An illuminated area is created on a projection surface by directing a light source to the projection surface. The illuminated area is detected with a camera. Electrical signals are transmitted from the camera to the projector, the electrical signals being indicative of the position of the illuminated area in relation to the projection surface. Based on the received electrical signals, an image and a second image are projected on the projection surface. The image is projected on the illuminated area of the projection surface. The second image is projected on an area of the projection surface that is not illuminated by the light source. Applications of this method and system include the projection of background and foreground images creating the illusion of an x-ray beam, the projection of a normal image and an overblown image creating the illusion of a magnifying light beam.
Cmkrebs 08-01-2006, 02:24 PM i heard that they where taking out millionair and putting that monster ride thats out in dlr but toy story is in two parks, mgm and magic kingdom, finding nemo will be in two parks too, animal kingdom and epcot.
AstroDawg 08-01-2006, 02:37 PM Here we go again with the Pixar/Disney stuff. This Pixar-ization of Disney might soon go out of control. Shame Shame...
Nemofinder 08-01-2006, 02:41 PM Yea why don't they put a monster's inc. ride instead I mean thry already have a toystory ride and you don't see them making too peterpan's flights
and I agree too much pixar

So you've heard it's going to be in California? I've never heard/been on Roger Rabbit, could you explain that ride to me? I hope it's not all of pixar, there are already enough pixar rides @_@
Neoteny 08-01-2006, 02:55 PM The Roger Rabbit ride is basically a typical dark ride (such as Mr. Toad's Wild Ride or The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh), except that the riders can spin the cars like the teacups on the teacup ride. That extra element adds to the fun of riding through scenes from the film.
Doodle 08-01-2006, 02:58 PM I'm kinda glad it's not a Mickey's Milestones ride, (as much as I'm opposed to 'pixarization' and love Steamboat Willie :wub8:) I don't want to shoot Mickey! What targets would there be besides that? Those bad, bad, Pixar guys?
Neoteny 08-01-2006, 03:28 PM I'm kinda glad it's not a Mickey's Milestones ride, (as much as I'm opposed to 'pixarization' and love Steamboat Willie :wub8:) I don't want to shoot Mickey! What targets would there be besides that? Those bad, bad, Pixar guys? :Tongue:Why, Peg-Leg Pete, of course!
Cmkrebs 08-05-2006, 04:16 AM i wish they would bring the monster ride to wdw they could put in where the old stage for huch back or how ever you spell it. or they need to make a ride with all the princess and princes and in downtown disney they need to add a build a bear like they have in disneyland, i havent been to disneyland. do you know how much downtown disney would make off of that, they have a lego shop. they could put computers in down town disney so we can play vmk when we are done shopping and our parenets are not
Juneau 08-05-2006, 06:23 PM Thought I'd bring this up...I was listening to a non-G rated Disney podcast and it happened to be talking about castmembers. A quote from this show, that can be used kinda sums up all of this. "Frontline castmembers don't know anything. We find out ride changes like everyone else, from the internet".
So, even though there seems to be a large possibility of Midway Mania replacing "...Millionaire", don't take it as 110% positive until the day of the soft opening, or until someone leaks photos onto the net.
As much as Pixarisation is running wild, as every park has got/is getting a Pixar ride, I'd like to see what happens with photo leaks or official press releases first before jumping in and saying "Wow, Toy Story in another ride! Cool!"
As it said on the same podcast, the internet said that Tarzan Rocks! was shutting down to enclose it to solve the heat problems and then reopen as Tarzan Rocks!...but yet it's going to become Finding Nemo? Proof the net isn't always that believable.
lane junky05 08-05-2006, 06:37 PM midway mania is NOT just toy story..and im glad they are using pixar to make rides..the 2 they already have are great rides (talking thing with crush doesnt count). and i hope finding nemo is as great as the origninal submarine ride...and even though toy story is somewhat involved in midway mania its not the same thing as buzz lightyear astro blaster.. Midway mania wont have targets to shoot at...(from what they said so far) and yes it will spin like roger rabbit
coolguestjedi 08-05-2006, 06:58 PM Lucky me. @_@ I just went to MGM and visited WWAM and got to see it! :) Yay! My first trip to WDW and I got to see a closing ride! At least I got some photos of the set.....
And I think Midway Mania is actually kinda fun though. And Turtle Talk with Crash was HALARIOUS!!!!!! LOL!!
futureimagineer1117 08-05-2006, 07:59 PM the finding nemo thing is not a ride... I went to Animal Kingdom back in march and they said it would be a show...
Cmkrebs 08-05-2006, 08:15 PM they are taking the living seas ride in epcot into a findinge nemo ride and there is a finding nemo show that will take the place of tarzan rocks in animal kingdom
Neoteny 08-05-2006, 09:25 PM they are taking the living seas ride in epcot into a findinge nemo ride and there is a finding nemo show that will take the place of tarzan rocks in animal kingdomThat's a whole lot of Nemo to be found!
Cmkrebs 08-06-2006, 01:52 AM i heard that the show is going to be super good along with the ride
