View Full Version : Misson:Space and Rock "n" Roller Coster
CrAzyEm 07-21-2006, 12:20 PM Since Mission:Space has opened at Epcot, i've been on it two times and man was it a thril some might disagree but i personally loved that ride. I rode the ride before any accidents happened on the ride and i'm not sure if they let you choise between the intense one and the calmer one but idk i still loved it nevertheless. My friend just went to WDW and she said the line took about 20 minutes to get on the ride without fastpass. which is pretty quick. when i first went on we waited 120 minutes. she thinks this is because of the accidents not to many people want to ride this ride. Some people (read this in an article online) are even thinking about closing the ride permenatly! if you think about the accidents, they were all not really the rides fault put the peoples fault. therefore this ride shouldn't be shut down and it shouldn't stop people from riding it.
on another thread i started about best thrill rides, rock 'n' roller coaster:staring aerosmith was mentions as a favotite a lot of times. well you all probally know this already but just to say it. that ride was temporarally closed down because of an accident. and if they didn't find out it was the person's fault, it would have been closed down for good.
There are accidents on almost everyride you could think of. There was even one on it's a small world in california back in the 1970's. Anything can happen. I'm just saying you shouldn't be afraid to go on rides there were accidents on and that the y shouldn't close down unless it was truely 100% the rides fault.
trick_master 07-24-2006, 06:21 AM both rides are super fun
mission space a little dizzy but super fun nonetheless
Maribeth 07-24-2006, 12:32 PM I like RRC as a thrill ride but TOT was much more of a thrill for me. I've never ridden Mission: Space because we are either glued to the rest of a super-large family, the lines are too long, or we are rushing to make it to our reservations at the Japanese dining room, which doesn't even have the table even near ready for us. Next time we go I'm going to ride it however.
Someone died on Splash Mountain and it was 100% the rides fault. An 80-year old lady died because as she was standing up about to put her foot on the platform to get off the ride, another car hit theirs. Hard. Then she fell and I think hit her head and died. This was some time ago, the first of any recent accidents that I've heard of. I still go on the ride.. but when I get off, I wait until one has just hit ours then hurry off before another comes. ;)
crushandgush 07-24-2006, 12:40 PM someone died on small world rotfl they i think died of the music
shadowari 07-24-2006, 12:51 PM someone died on small world rotfl they i think died of the music
RoFL! THat is horrible. Anyway moving on...
Both of those rides are awsome! The rock n rollercoaster was fun because first it was by first upside down rollercoaster. Sedond,, it has aerosmith and they rock. Finally, the line area is awsome.
Mission space is awsome bacasue of the G's and the fact that you feel like your launching into space. I remember, it was my end my cosuins first time riding it. When we were about to get on, he said "I need to go to the bathroom..." LOL
gigarichard 07-24-2006, 12:52 PM both versions of the ride are a lot of fun. Although me being stupid I kept thinking I was going to die on the orange version lol
ACEROLLER 07-24-2006, 01:09 PM Both of those rides are wicked sweet. Mission space wait has went from 120 minutes to 20 in the orange line and 5 in the green line. People really dislike the deaths on that ride.
Rock'n Roller Coaster is probably one of the best rides at WDW. The music is perfectly themed the ride is perfectly theme. You pretty much get to meet Aerosmith in the pre-show. It is just an amazing ride and a classic for sure.
dvcshadow 07-24-2006, 01:56 PM I really enjoy both rides. The accidents were NOT Disney's fault. Some, however, like to sue for money.
TheCoasterNut 07-24-2006, 04:27 PM Lets just say that you can never fully plan for human stupidity while designing a ride. No matter how many warning signs, saftey measures, and precautions you take, their will still be someone who does somthing really really stupid. For example, the POTC @ DL didn't use to have gates at the station, but someone decided to try and climb into the boat before it stopped, lost her footing and sued for a ton of money. You see, their is this magical thing called common sense, that actually is not very common.
Well, enough about that, back to the subject at hand.
I have never been on either attraction (never been to WDW) but I have heard many amazing things about both of them. You see, I am a bit of a coaster enthusiast, and I try to keep up with what is going on in the amusement park world.
disnyfreek 07-25-2006, 08:10 PM lol want to hear a funny story? horrible to laugh at but funny to think about. Well in late June in 2003, my family and me went to WDW with my godfather, my godmother, and my godfather's parents. Well my godfather's mother got to the front of the line at Peter Pan's Flight, and tripped on the moving conveyor belt, fell onto the Peter Pan Track, and got run over by a Peter Pan boat. She survived, and only got a broken rib.. but it's like that thing about somone dying on it's a small world. No matter how innocent of a ride, you can still get hurt lol
AstroDawg 07-26-2006, 01:16 PM Yeah some boy had a heart attack on the Rock n' Roll Rollercoaster. But I went on it twice. Like CrAzyEm said, you cant be afraid to go on a ride just because someone got hurt or died on it. And when I was on Rock n' Roll Rollercoaster there werent any extra precautions or anything, as if nothing had happened
pinkfashionist 07-26-2006, 02:06 PM Well, I think that it would be unfair if they close down RRC cause that is like one on my favorite rides.. And I guess if someone had an 'accident' because of medical issues then that's their fault. But Disney could ask for everyone's medical issues on a survey sheet for whoever comes into the park, then tell them which rides are safe to go on, and which rides are not safe to go on with their medical issues. :)
That's just my thought.
Alienboy 07-26-2006, 02:13 PM its not the rides fault and FL park commision(sp) came in and looked everything over. After an autospy(sp) the doctors found on every person that died on the ride that it was a physical injury on the persons part. They might of not known about it until it was too late but there is no reason to close down a ride when there are tons of signs and warnings. Especially if the illness was unknown until it was too late
SunShineSmile 07-26-2006, 02:21 PM I've been on RRC, and LOVED it. If I remember correctly, Disney does post signs on their rides, ie: If you are pregnant...or If you have medical issues. Granted some may not know they had a problem until on the ride, but ya know freaky things happen sometimes. I've heard of ppl going into seisures from playing video games... I even have a few that say that in a warning statement!!! And sometimes things just happen, look at some of the pro sports players... they are supposably perfectly healthy, checked by a team dr. ect, but then outta the blue they could collapse on the field or on the court, whatever. Ya just never know... Ride at your own risk!
Oranges 07-26-2006, 02:44 PM Ok guys, the rules have already been laid down about discussing fatalities on rides. Let's get back on topic here...
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring: Aerosmith is one of my personal favorite rides. It took me quite a while to build up the courage to finally challenge it. I went through the line once when I was about eight years old, and I did not know that you blasted from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. As soon as I saw those trains take off, I took off to the gift shop, lol. :D
Now I regret waiting so long. It is such as fun ride. The launch is very intimidating, and I won't lie - it's very intense. The rest of the coaster is extremely fun, and the music is awesome too. It is a little short, though...

Alienboy 07-26-2006, 02:48 PM Its not very intense its a normal rollercoaster with an extra push at the start :)....intense is 0-100 in under.01 seconds in a funny car top speed at 330mph, thats very intense
ACEROLLER 07-26-2006, 02:51 PM Its not very intense its a normal rollercoaster with an extra push at the start :)....intense is 0-100 in under.01 seconds in a funny car top speed at 330mph, thats very intense
Things can be intense to different people. That could easily be intense to someone who is not used to it. Now a person who rides roller coasters like me i have no problems with launches and speeds. And just to say there are things that go 0-120 in 3 seconds and that is a roller coasters now that is intense @_@.

what coaster is that, Top Thrill Dragster? Ever heard of Kingda Ka? thats like 128 in 3.5
DizCaptain 07-26-2006, 03:05 PM Both attractions were multi-million dollar attractions. Mission: Space cost around actually I brelieve 1.3 billion dollars to construct. People need to take forth on the warnings and that is all Disney can do for people. As for incisidents and fatalities come some of these were unforseen and Disney could not stop them. Dismantling these attractions would cost possibly the same as to build them.
Gingersnaps 07-26-2006, 03:05 PM the most intense ride to me is Mission Space bc theres alot of spinng and you cant look anywhere else but the screen or something happenes to your eyes @_@ !_! when i got on it i was kinda scared but now next year im not getting on it LOL i may try RROC but from looking at the little video uh...no way rofl ill ride the intesne rides when im older :) right now my life as a kid rockz

Do you know how much 1.3 billion dollars is? Expedition Everest did not even cost 1/2 that much.
Mission: SPACE was about $100 million dollars to build, give or take a few million.

Yes, it's also impossible. At least, nothing like that exists or even will exist. 0-100 (as you suggest) in a fraction of a second is deadly.
Its not very intense its a normal rollercoaster with an extra push at the start ....
Oh, is that why I hear a whole train full of people shrieking their heads off for those brief 3 seconds of sudden acceleration? It is intense, and "a normal rollercoaster with an extra push at the start" is an understatement. Going that fast in that amount of time is very intense, and I bet that everyone's first time riding caused them to scream like a little girl.

greenhpper 07-26-2006, 05:05 PM I just recently went on Rock n' Roller and let me just say it will most likely be the last. It has nothing to do with the speeds or the loops really. It has more to do with the black lights and no breaks in between loops. Yes, I did read the signs and thought I was going to be ok. What I did not see listed on the signs was warnings for people who are black light sensitive. I might have to go check the signs again. Oh, and motion sickness is not the same. I have vision problems so if that ride has lasted another 20 sesonds the people around me would have been wearing my lunch.
Needless to say, I also have a very sensitive vascular system where quick changes in elevation make me dizzy or pass out. Therefore, I wil not ride TOT or Mission Space.
One thing I have often wondered with these thrill rides is whether or not dehydration has been taken into consideration. I mean, here you have a bunch of people who are not used to FL heat who have been sucking down sodas or other non-water beverages all day. Do they test the rides with those types of poeple before opening them up to the public?:D

There's a "blacklight sensitive" warning on the sign? Wow, I've never noticed that before...maybe it's new...

Aw, that's too bad, because Tower of Terror is a great ride.

Heh, I know whenever I get off that ride my mouth is very dry - from screaming so much, lol. :D
Forgive me for sounding nieve, but please explain to me how dehydration could be a problem. I know dehydration can cause headaches, and they probably could affect someone on a ride of RnRC's nature, but headaches pass in a matter of time.

CrAzyEm 07-26-2006, 07:29 PM what coaster is that, Top Thrill Dragster? Ever heard of Kingda Ka? thats like 128 in 3.5
I love kingda ka!!!! i just rode it last week for the 1st time. totally amazing....
Poseidon 07-26-2006, 09:23 PM I love them both. Two of my favorite rides.
What I always find funny is that Mission: SPACE gives constant g's, yes, but only 2. Most coasters go above that. Maybe people who got sick didn't think a simulator would be bad as say, Kingda Ka that, as said before goes 128 in 3.5 seconds? I've actually been in an F-18 simulator once that gave me constant 6.2 G's for about 8 seconds at a time, and I felt fine. That's probably why I can handle M:S :P
Rock N' Roller coaster's my favorite because...well, I love Aerosmith :D I usually get headaches on upside down roller coasters, but I did fine with RnR.

No, I do not believe there is a black light sensitive sign there, I was saying that there should be if it is not already there.
Your not sounding naive, and it's better to ask than not at all. :D
Dehydration can cause weakness, dizziness, and fainting. It will also lower your blood volume which can alter your blood pressure. When this happens, certain activities which can change your blood pressure artifically (heavy exercise, changes in altitude/pressure or temperature) can drastically affect your blood pressure which can then affect your heat rate, breathing, and brain function. Then throw any chemicals substances (such as medications, or someone who has drunk their way around tht world) the person may have in their blood and you have a double whammy.
I was just wondering out loud what types of people they use for testing the rides.
Jimothy 07-31-2006, 11:02 PM I predict they will close both down and update them to make them more safe as they did with Space Mountain in DLR.
Maribeth 08-01-2006, 12:22 AM I bet that everyone's first time riding caused them to scream like a little girl.

My brother did not want to ride it, but because my dad was underwater, it was only me, my mom and my brother there and me and my mom both wanted to ride it. She had to carry him (he was seven), put him in the seat, hold him down and strap in him, then when I sat down beside him he was screaming in my ear (You do not want to hear my brother scream - it's like you screaming like a litle girl into a microphone) I had to hold his hand. I told him I would give him I a signal before we went upside down, and he said I had to put my arm accross him so he wouldn't fall out.
Silverstream 08-01-2006, 12:34 AM heh, i freaked when i first went on RRC, it was my first rollercoaster that went upside down, i was gripping the handles sooooo tight my knuckles were like white, after i got off tho i wanted to go again :)
ACEROLLER 08-01-2006, 12:37 AM I did not scream like a girl. I screamed for joy that because that ride is so much fun. I was used to the fast acceleration by then before i even rode it. Thank you other coasters. The only bad part of that ride is the launch the rest is very themed and it is a normal LIM Coaster.
aceskatencow 08-19-2006, 11:26 PM the first time i went to epcot was on a field trip the line wasnt long for misson space but anyways your no one should be scared of rides b/c of a accident
chorustwo 08-20-2006, 08:57 PM The most intense ride I have been on is Storm runner (that goes from 0- I think 72 in like 2.5 seconds. But I like RRC and Mission:space Their my fave rides at WDW (along with of course Stitch)
GothInPurple 08-20-2006, 10:23 PM I actually thought both R&RC and M:S weren't really thrilling. ToT was :D
You know what's annoying? Where do you put your stuff on all those rides? You pretty much lose it on R&RC, or it gets squashed (Same with Space Mountain and Expedition Everest); And, it lands on somebody's noggin on ToT. Plus, what happens to the soda you never finished, or even started in the luggage?
And most intense ride ever? Try El Toro, pretty much a few hundred feet away from Kingda Ka. It has the world's steepest wooden coaster drop! (Ok, not intense. Just, don't each lunch 2 hours before doing that thing ;) )
Xucid 08-22-2006, 11:20 PM i love both these rides they are amazing. Mission Space kicks sooo much butt.
rjromero3 08-23-2006, 12:27 AM i <33333 both of those rides!! when i went to WDW it was halloween and there were like no lines!!! it was so awesome....i went on rock n' roller coaster soooooo many times!! - bc there was no line :D - and i went on mission space maybe 2 or 3 times.... there was a little line... but i didnt mind waiting in it :D
GreenGirlJess 08-31-2006, 09:32 PM I almost started crying because I didn't want to go on Rock N Roller Coaster, but a lady and her daughter infront of us convienced me to go on. Don't ask how.. XD
And, I remember in Mission Space I was screaming "I CAN'T BREATHE" Because I felt pressure on my chest =\
