Why doesn't Disney make films like Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and Pete's Dragon any more? Those are some of my favorite Disney films!

Maybe the recent success of High School Musical will inspire executives to take a chance on more original musicals.

Disney is working on some more musicals at the moment...so we just have to wait.

The international success of HSM has shown not only Disney but many other countries how popular Musicals can get. I can not wait for more from Disney though. Isn't Enchanted (http://www.imdb.com/company/co0008970/) suppose to be a musical? (Sadly most to come do not look like Musicals)

I am sure we can expect Rapunzal to have a soundtrack and score.

Even the animated movies released in the past few years haven't been musicals! It's gotten rather discouraging.

Disney did try it's hand at a full-scale musical with Newsies but it didn't make the money they had hoped which is why they didn't continue. Making a DisChanMovie is easier and cheaper so with HSM being as popular as it was I am sure that they are considering the venue again.

Wow, I'd completely forgotten about Newsies. But even that was a long time ago, and it was a more serious musical, not a fun children's fantasy like the three classics I mentioned (Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and Pete's Dragon).

Of course, High School Musical isn't that kind of fantasy, either, so maybe I'm not making any sense here.

And Disney did try a musical fantasy sort of thing with The Muppets' Wizard of Oz, but that was just terrible (and I'm a big Muppets fan).

Anyway, I guess I just miss the classics. I'm going to go watch my DVDs.

:ouch:

WE Loved Enchanted! I would love to see more movies like that. I paid money to see it twice, after seeing it for free( screening)

I will get it on DVD, the day it is released.

Is Enchanted a musical? The ads make it look like the singers always get cut off before they can get very far into their songs.

I loved Enchanted. Sorry to threadjack, but I did.

Anyway, hopefully more good musicals will come from Disney.

Enchanted is no more a musical than The Lion King, Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid, Hercules (blech) or Pocohontas are. It's a movie with songs in it. I realize that this is a foreign concept to the ADHD generation.

Enchanted is a Fantasy. There is some singing and music, it may be Half Musical and Half Fantasy.
